Ingénierie minière
Introduction:
Mining brings natural earth minerals to the surface in a safe, efficient, and responsible way without causing undue disturbance to the environment, to satisfy societal and industrial needs, and to promote significant contributions to the economy. To make mine operations more productive, safe, and economical using modern technology and highly sophisticated equipment methodologies, the industry needs intelligent, responsible, creative, and skillful practitioners. The job responsibilities of Mining Engineers include designing layouts for both surface and underground mines, preparation of short- and long-range mine plans and production sequences, selection and scheduling of equipment, designing blast patterns for rock fragmentation and excavation, designing ventilation plans for underground mines, monitoring safety of personnel and equipment, optimizing processes.1

Phosphate Deposits of the World: Volume 2, Phosphate Rock Resources
Auteur : A. J. G. Notholt
Éditeur : Cambridge University Press
ISBN : 978-0521673334
Cote :553.64/NOT
Résumé
This book is the second of four reference volumes, which collectively describe the achievements of the International Geological Correlation Programme Project 156 (Phosphorites) during the ten years of the Project's existence. Volume 2 contains 93 chapters contributed by 111 researchers, dealing with most, if not all, of the major individual deposits or phosphate fields of the world, whether of igneous or sedimentary origin. Total resources of phosphate rock are extremely large, but are unequally distributed geographically and only a relatively small proportion can be mined on an economic scale at present. The text is arranged on a continental basis, with an introductory chapter for each continent summarizing the distribution of resources within the geological timescale. This unique volume provides a good understanding of the mode of occurrence, geological setting and phosphogenesis of the world's phosphate resources. It forms an invaluable aid to the search for, and exploitation of, phosphate deposits in many countries.

to Modern Phosphorites
Auteur :William C. Burnett

ISBN : 978-0521034180
Cote :553.64/BUR
Marine phosphorites, the principal raw material for phosphatic fertilizers, do not occur uniformly through time and space. The origin of these unusual sedimentary rocks appears to be related mainly to marine biological productivity, often associated with upwelling currents during certain intervals of geological time. This book examines the environmental setting and resulting phosphorites which formed during the Miocene, one of the major and most recent phosphogenic periods throughout the geologic record. In addition, an oceanographic perspective is given by investigations of modern oceanic environments where phosphorites are presently forming. Together, the geologic and marine approaches provide a complete outlook on this important mineral resource

Advancing Exploration: Preparing for an Upturn
Abstract: The article reporst that Saskatchewan's resource potential go a long way in creating investor confidence in exploration activity. Attracting investment in the market be made to take advantage of an upturn. Although uranium attractiveness is declining for mature operators, it seems to be picking again for the juniors. Producers such as Cameco need to adapt and scale down in line with the commodity’s demand profile.

Economic Geology Models 1. Geochemical Exploration and Metallogenic Studies, Northern Chile
Abstract:Research was initiated in 1998 on geochemical methods of exploration for copper porphyry deposits buried under thick, lithified piedmont gravel cover in the Atacama Desert, Chile. Early data suggest that mineralized, saline groundwater has been episodically forced up through fracture zones to the surface during earthquakes, creating geochemical anomalies above ore deposits. Follow-up research supported by the Canadian Mining Industry Research Organization (CAMIRO) examined the composition of both groundwater and surface anomalies, confirming a link between the two. Further work suggests that the geochemical anomalies are the surface expression of a process common to the metallogenic evolution of many deposits. Porphyry intrusion and hypogene mineralization are controlled by faults, and are followed by supergene enrichment in a semi-arid climate. After burial by Miocene gravels, the climate changed to hyper-arid; estimates of the onset of hyperaridity vary from mid-Miocene (11-14 Ma) to Pliocene (~3-5 Ma). Since then, saline dewatering of the basement along long-lived faults has converted the original supergene copper oxide assemblage, formed in equilibrium with meteoric water and lacking atacamite, to one containing atacamite [Cu[sub 2]Cl(OH)[sub 3]], the copper mineral especially associated with northern Chile. This interpretation is supported by studies showing that the salinity of fluid inclusions in atacamite is similar to that of local groundwater and that atacamite is considerably younger than the co-existing supergene alteration.

Geodetic monitoring (TLS) of a steel transport trestle bridge located in an active mining exploitation site.
Abstract:Geodetic monitoring (TLS) of a steel transport trestle bridge located in an active mining exploatation site. Underground mining exploitation causes, in general, irregular vertical and horizontal shifts in the superficial layer of the rock mass. In the case of construction objects seated on this layer, a deformation of the object's foundation can be observed. This leads to additional loads and deformations. Identification of surface geometry changes in construction objects located within the premises of underground mining exploitation areas is an important task as far as safety of mining sites is concerned. Surveys targeting shifts and deformations in engineering objects preformed with the use of classic methods are of a selective nature and do not provide the full image of the phenomenon being the subject of the observation. This paper presents possibilities of terrestrial laser scanning technology application in the monitoring of engineering objects that allows for a complete spatial documentation of an object subjected to the influence of an active mining exploitation. This paper describes an observation of a 100 m section of a steel transport trestle bridge located on the premises of hard coal mine Lubelski Węgiel "Bogdanka" S.A. carried out in 2015. Measurements were carried out using a Z+F Imager 5010C scanner at an interval of 3.5 months. Changes in the structure's geometry were determined by comparing the point clouds recorded during the two measurement periods. The results of the analyses showed shifts in the trestle bridge towards the exploited coal wall accompanied by object deformation. The obtained results indicate the possibility of of terrestrial laser scanning application in studying the aftereffects of underground mining exploitation on surface engineering objects.

Improving Productivity and Safety Through More Efficient Separation and Leaching.
Abstract: The article discusses the significance of pH and oxidation reduction potential (ORP) measuring instruments on separation and leaching methods in gold and copper mineral processing. Analytical instrumentation such as smart liquid analysis systems are essential in reducing cost and at the same time maximizing productivity in separation and leaching techniques such as flotation. However, accurate and reliable measurements are difficult to derive due to sensors that are affected by coating and breakage when immersed in strong chemical mixtures. This problem is solved by employing advanced, microprocessor-based instruments like the Rosemount Analytical Model 6081-P wireless pH transmitter, with state-of-the-art sensors designed to endure such rigorous procedures.

Computer Applications in the Mineral Industries
Auteur : Helping Xie
Éditeur : CRC Press
ISBN : 978-9058091741
Cote : 622.028 5/XIE
This book covers the use of computer applications in the mineral industries, encompassing topics such as the use of computer visualization in mining systems and aspects such as ventilation and safety.
General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS) is a special computer programming language primarily used to simulate what can be classified as discrete systems. A discrete system is one where, at any given instant in time, a countable number of things can take place. The basic operation of a mine itself can be considered such a system. Discrete Simulation and Animation for Mining Engineers explains how to model mining systems using GPSS/H® and PROOF® by Wolverine Software Corporation. Employing a unique approach that encourages engagement from the start, the text discusses animation first, and then slowly introduces simulation language. As each new topic is covered, an animation is provided to illustrate the key concepts.

Selection of the optimal technology for surface mining by multi-criteria analysis.
Abstract:The selection of optimal technology for surface mining of mineral deposits is a standard decision-making problem. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the potential of the combined AHP and ELECTRE methods in selecting the optimal technology using the open pit coal mine “Ugljevik East” (Ugljevik Istok) as an example. In order to resolve the problems encountered, the three types of technologies were taken into consideration with regards to the eight criteria for selecting the optimal solution. The criteria include the most important aspects of selecting the optimal technologies, such as geology and geotechnical engineering, ecology, economy, etc. In addition, AHP is used to analyse the structure of the technology selection process and to determine the significance and impact of certain criteria in the selection process, while ELECTRE method is used for the final ranking of alternatives. The obtained results indicate that the proposed combined method provides extraordinary results and that it can be used to resolve various, even the most complex problems that occur in mining engineering.

Traitement et analyse des paramètres de pilotage d'un tunnelier.
Abstract:Tunnel boring parameters are used to control the good-functioning of the tunnel boring machine along the bored tunnel route and rarely to obtain more information about the nature or the mechanical behavior of the bored soil. Actually, they can bring very informative data, firstly, to improve the geological section to have the exact tunnel length in each soil formation and, secondly, to quantify the variability of the boring process along the tunnel route. Previously, a mechanical parameter is obtained from the combination of three tunnel boring parameters, which are thrust, penetration rate, and rotary speed. From statistical and geostatistical methods, the drillability signal, which can be seen as a time series, is divided into a set of stationary subdomains. The resulting series is then a stationary one, by zones, whose analysis can bring more information about the tunnel length for each soil formation and on the variability of the boring process. This last piece of information might then be utilized by contractors to explain some low advance rate totally unexpected before boring.Key words: tunnel boring machine, boring parameters, drillability, homogeneous zone, variability, statistic, geostatistic.

This volume contains chapters spanning from the role of geochemistry in the environment in general to specific investigations on site characterization (sampling strategy, analytical procedures and problems). Specific articles deal with health problems related to environment pollution, waste disposal, data base management, and provide illustrations of specific case histories of site characterization and remediation of brownfield sites.
Mining has the potential to have severely adverse effects on the environment including loss of biodiversity, erosion, contamination of surface water, ground water, and soil. The formation of sinkholes is also possible. Other than environmental damage, mining may also affect the surrounding population's health as a result of contamination caused by the leakage of chemicals.
In some countries, mining companies are expected to adhere to rehabilitation and environmental codes, making sure that the area mined is eventually transformed back into its original form, or at least as much as it is possible.

Nanoparticles and the Environment
Auteur : Jillian F. Banfield
Éditeur : De Gruyter
ISBN:978-0939950560
Cote: 551.9/BAN
Résumé
Volume 44 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry contains descriptions of the inorganic and biological processes by which nanoparticles form, information about the distribution of nanoparticles in the atmosphere, aqueous environments, and soils, discussion of the impact of size on nanoparticle structure, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics, consideration of the nature of the smallest nanoparticles and molecular clusters, pathways for crystal growth and colloid formation, analysis of the size-dependence of phase stability and magnetic properties, and descriptions of methods for the study of nanoparticles. These questions are explored through both theoretical and experimental approaches.
This volume was prepared in conjunction with a short course, "Nanoparticles in the Environment and Technology," convened on the campus of the University of California, Davis, CA on December 8 and 9, 2001.
The book is a comprehensive treatment of the application of geotechnical engineering to site selection, site exploration, design, operation and closure of mine waste storage facilities. The level and content are suitable as a technical source and reference for practising engineers engaged both in the design and operational management of mine waste storage facilities and for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students. The thirteen chapters follow the sequence of the life cycle of a waste storage facility (characterization, site selection, geotechnical exploration, environmental aspects, testing and compaction) and also consider the use of mine waste as a construction material. The text is liberally illustrated by both line drawings and photographs, and the theoretical passages are supported by typical test results, worked examples and carefully analysed case histories.

Application of MIKE SHE to study the impact of coal mining on river runoff in Gujiao mining area, Shanxi, China.
Abstract:Coal mining is one of the core industries that contribute to the economic development of a country but deteriorate the environment. Being the primary source of energy, coal has become essential to meet the energy demand of a country. It is excavated by both opencast and underground mining methods and affects the environment, especially hydrological cycle, by discharging huge amounts of mine water. Natural hydrological processes have been well known to be vulnerable to human activities, especially large scale mining activities, which inevitably generate surface cracks and subsidence. It is therefore valuable to assess the impact of mining on river runoff for the sustainable development of regional economy. In this paper, the impact of coal mining on river runoff is assessed in one of the national key coal mining sites, Gujiao mining area, Shanxi Province, China. The characteristics of water cycle are described, the similarities and differences of runoff formation are analyzed in both coal mining and pre-mining periods. The integrated distributed hydrological model named MIKE SHE is employed to simulate and evaluate the influence of coal mining on river runoff.

Raising Environmental Awareness among Miners in Iran Abstract: Generation of waste is inevitable but controllable in minerals industry. The aim of this research is to find ways for raising environmental awareness among miners. Miners' attitude towards environmental mining has been investigated. A survey has been done collecting mine managers' point of view coupled with current trend on mine waste management in Iran. Their opinions on methods used for minerals extraction and waste production are sought in order to investigate possible educational schemes for waste reduction and mine waste disposal. The type and quantity of waste produced by respondents have been identified to prioritise the wastes produced in minesites. Environmental legislations and policies for good practice minerals extraction are surveyed and demonstrated. These are regarded as our clients' preferences on managing mining waste. When combined with other existing policies and methods, they could become part of a learning program to boost awareness among miners.
