Surfing AN ANCIENT LOVE AFFAIR

This ancient love affair was first sparked off in 1956.

The swimming guides on the Côte des Basques in Biarritz and local youngsters, who only had swimming, flirting, sandcastles and jokari to entertain them, were amazed… Between shooting scenes for the film ‘The Sun Also Rises’, American filmmaker Peter Viertel headed into the water to surf the waves, standing upright on a ‘baobab’ or ‘longboard’. Upon leaving to shoot in Spain, he entrusted his board to a few daring locals, known today as ‘Les Tontons Surfeurs’ (the surfing uncles), whose enthusiasm inspired future generations to follow in their wake. And that is how

surfing first came to Europe, via Biarritz!

Biarritz resident Jacky Rott had already tried to make a surfboard after seeing a few seconds of shots of surfing in Hawaii in a documentary on Pearl Harbor. But he didn’t know that he needed a fin and wax to keep his feet from slipping off the board…

Surfing began to generate interest. The first club, Waïkiki Surf Club, was born in Biarritz between July and September 1960 and the first French championships for the sport were held. Young surfers such as Barland, Laharrague, Rott, Chebaut, Durcudoy and De Rosnay stunned the crowed with their exploits and started to make names for themselves.

From the 1960s Biarritz, which had opened its airport in 1954, saw the Caravelle aircraft of Air Inter, the airline that operated the Paris/Biarritz routes, transporting surfboards in its hold luggage. People were coming to surf on the Basque coast and heading off to see how they measured up to the waves in Hawaii, Malibu or Manly in Australia. Biarritz local Georges Hennebutte,

a keen enthusiast of this hobby and then sport, invented a leash to attach the board to the surfer’s ankle. Unfortunately, he didn’t think to patent the idea… yet surfing without a leash anywhere in the world today would be unthinkable!

In 1965, Jo Moraïtz, another local figure, opened the first surf shop on the Basque coast in Biarritz. He went to California, trawled through boardsport trade shows and brought back bags, t-shirts, Bermuda shorts, surfboards and skateboards that were completely new in France.

In a corner of the Bayonne machining workshop, the Barland brothers started making boards (wood and balsa, polystyrene and resin). A new profession was born: the shaper. Their workshop is still a favourite place to visit for surfers today.

Shortly after, Laurent Fagola and Bruno Baradat created the BTZ brand and produced the first iconic t-shirt: a ghost surfing with Villa Belza in the background! Since the 1970s, boards have diversified into shortboards or longboards and have grown lighter and slimmer. Neoprene wetsuits constitute a market in their own right. Boardsport styles have become more varied, the number of surf shops has increased and Quiksilver has chosen to establish its European headquarters on the Basque coast!

Thus, over the decades and thanks to the Tontons Surfeurs, this sport and leisure activity has become a lifestyle in its own right for many. From the most tender age people go surfing, dress surf, talk surf, listen to surf music, read surf… it’s the famous “Aloha spirit”.

Surfing YESTERDAY AND TODAY

When fashion turns to surf, and vice versa! Quiksilver, a now-famous Australian brand whose logo is composed of a wave and mountain, entered what we could now call “the imperial city of surf” thanks to Jeff Hakman, Biarritz local Brigitte Darrigrand and the Australian Harry Hodge who were working under licence. Today, the group owns several brands including Roxy, a dedicated women’s line.

The biggest space in Europe, 850 m², opened in Anglet in 2005. Beautiful American surfer Jenna de Rosnay, whose brother-in-law was the scientist and writer Joël de Rosnay, was one of the very first models for the new brands of swim suits and surf accessories.

THE CHAMPIONS! 60 years ago, the Basque coast became the birthplace of surfing in Europe, and it still plays host to the biggest names in international surfing today. Numerous competitions are held for this spectacular sport, producing young champions such as the Delpero brothers, Lee Ann Curren (Tom Curren’s daughter) and Pauline Ado, from Hendaye. The FFS (French Surfing Federation) has 50 or so Pro Elite surfers and just as many promising young talents. In 2014, the French Surfing Federation celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Antoine and

Edouard Delpero World Longboard Champion in 2009 and 2013, and European

Longboard Champion in 2012, 2015 and 2016, the Delpero brothers live out their passion for the Ocean and surfing to the full. They work closely with Alain Minvielle, their shaper, and manufacture their boards under the BONZ brand name. They travel all over the world free surfing or competing and opened their own school in Biarritz in 2016.

Pauline Ado Junior European Champion in 2005 and 2007 then Junior World Champion in

2009, aged just 17. The Woman’s Rip Curl pro is now 26, with a reputation which is just as flashy as her smile! She re-joined the CT circuit in 2017 alongside the world’s best surfers.

Romain Laulhé 6 times Champion of France, Winner of a WQS 4* stage of the WSL circuit, 9 years in

the French team, 4th in the Junior World Championship in Australia (ISA)… Romain tends more towards free surfing: big wave riding, tubes and empty waves are in his line of sight. ‘Young Elites’ new talent: Uhaïna Joly, Len’s Arancibia, Néis Lartigue, Ainhoa Leiciaga, Juliette Lacome

Practical information SURF SPOTS ON THE BASQUE COAST

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SPOT A prime location for boardsports, the Basque coast boasts a dozen or so beaches where surfing is king. People travel from all over the world including Australia, California and Hawaii to catch waves at Cavaliers or Corsaires in Anglet, at Côte des Basques in Biarritz, Parlementia in Bidart-Guéthary or Lafitenia in Saint Jean de Luz. The contours and rocks of the rugged coastal landscape create different waves every day. In summer and winter, “true” surfers head out to the waves for a session at isolated or urban spots with, in every case, the added bonus of a view of the mountains thrown in!

All the emotion of the world’s best waves concentrated into 30km of coastline. Thanks to the geography of the Basque coast, you can almost always find a spot for a session regardless of the wind’s direction, size of the swell or tide.

Surf all year round: in winter, the temperature of the water is around 11°C and rises to as high as 25°C in summer. The best conditions for waves are in spring and autumn. Generally speaking, the waves are smaller in summer and better for learning.

Legendary spots: Côte des Basques in Biarritz and La Barre in Anglet have hosted international competitions. Each spot has its own characteristics.

Belharra, the height of thrills

In the autumn, a giant wave like no other in Europe is formed just 2.5km off the Basque coast. It is called the Belharra, and seasoned surfers, the big wave riders, wait impatiently for its arrival.

It is formed when certain specific weather conditions are combined. When a heavy swell hits the shoal known as the Belharra Perdun, it generates a huge wave that can be as tall as 18m. Only very experienced surfers take it on and are towed out to the wave by jet ski. It promises THE unforgettable session! People come from all over the world to surf it at least once in their lifetime. Peyo Lizarazu, Champion of France 2010, is among those who have surfed the Belharra the most.

Practical information SURF SPOTS ON THE BASQUE COAST

ANGLET Whenever anyone mentions Anglet, it is inevitably to talk about nature and sport! The Anglet coastline consists of 11 beaches, covers 4.5 kilometres and boasts 8 surf spots. A pedestrian coastal path has been built which runs along all the beaches.

Anglet Surf Club, one of France’s biggest surf clubs, is based at Le Club beach in the lively Chambre d'Amour district, home to restaurants, bars and surf shops.

La Barre – A strategic fall-back

The spot at La Barre is protected by the pier, and the surf only gets up when there is a strong swell, so it’s a good fall-back plan when the other spots in Anglet become too crowded. It was here that the first world surf championships were organised in 1968.

Les Cavaliers – The powerful one – advanced level

Not for beginners! This spot is well known for its very high waves and therefore its tubes. A real “swell magnet”, the spot is best at low and half tide.

L’Océan – The “wild one” - advanced level

This is the spot for beach breaks and tubular peaks with lefts and rights. Best to avoid at high tide.

La Madrague and La Petite Madrague –

The consistent one – advanced level

The expanse of fine sand at La Madrague makes it one of the most attractive beaches in Anglet.

The spot has several quality sandbanks and plenty of space. Although the sandbanks change, the spot is fairly consistent and, in principle, gets waves at all tides.

Marinella and Les Corsaires - The “classic beach break”

Protected by rocky outcrops, these are the top spots for new surfers because the waves are fairly easy. Like at La Madrague, you can surf here at all tides.

Les Corsaires, with its large green spaces, marks the transition from the urban beaches at Chambre d'Amour to the more “nature-based” beaches in North Anglet.

Les Sables d’Or – The city beach

The surf here is determined by the direction of the swell: long rights one day, hollow lefts the next.

Le Club – For bodyboarders

Situated between two rocky outcrops, at the heart of Chambre d’Amour and opposite Anglet Surf Club, the biggest surf club in France, this spot is a favourite among bodyboarders, boasting good shore break tubes at high tide. The spot is variable depending on the sandbanks, and has surf at almost all tides.

La Chambre d’Amour (ex VVF) – The regulars

A unique spot in the cove behind the lighthouse, at the foot of Le Cap St Martin cliff. The waves here are often smaller than in North Anglet due to the fact it is protected from the southerly wind by the cliff.

Practical information SURF SPOTS ON THE BASQUE COAST

BIARRITZ Boasting 6 beaches with powerful waves and mild weather all year round, Biarritz has always been at the cutting edge, from its expansion under Napoleon III in the mid-19th century, to the charms of the Belle Epoque and the Années Folles, followed by the post-war celebrations and finally the 1960s when it was the

first town in France and Europe to adopt a new and

surprising sport: surfing.

Grande Plage – The urban one

Situated right in the town centre you can get to this spot barefoot with your wetsuit on and board under your arm. It is suitable for all ages and levels of ability, and you can surf here all year round, to the great delight of onlookers! Beach break, surf at low or half tide.

Côte des Basques – The legendary one

THE beach with an exceptional setting, a view of the Spanish coast and flanked by cliffs. It is a legendary spot which is ideal for longboarding. TRIPADVISOR rated it France’s most beautiful beach in 2017. The Trip Advisor website describes Côte des Basques in the following way: “the view is mind-blowing. The waves are fantastic! The sunset is truly magnificent.” A good spot for beginners and longboarding. Surf at low or half tide.

Marbella – The playful one

Situated further down from Côte des Basques, large and with a natural feel, Marbella is equally appreciated by surfers and bodyboarders.

La Milady – The Biarritz one A right-left beach break spot which is slightly away from the urban hustle and bustle of Biarritz, and therefore a little more private. This spot is suitable for all levels.

Ilbarritz – The trendy one

The town’s final beach, which rubs shoulders with the ‘Pavillon royal’ in Bidart. It is more generally reserved for experienced surfers, at low or half tide.

BIDART Bidart, a Basque village set between Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz, has retained its traditional character while keeping up with the present day and living alongside surfing. As early as the 1960s, young Bidart surfers met under the cover of the Basque Pelota club ‘Kostakoak’ (those of the coast) to practice this new sport. The best local pioneers soon reached the final rounds of the French Surfing Championships on several occasions.

Le Centre – The stylish one

One of the most popular, easy access.

Parlementia – The pro

THE spot for top-level surfers. Its unique character lies in the fact that waves break to both the left and right. It is the local spot of Bixente and Peyo Lizarazu and Joël de Rosnay!

Pratique LES SPOTS DE LA COTE BASQUE

Practical information SURF SPOTS ON THE BASQUE COAST

GUETHARY The Guéthary coastline is a series of protected spaces offering calmer sites ideal for surfing and boardsports with sand and pebble beaches. Those looking for tranquillity and privacy will appreciate being able to “adopt” these coves.

Cenitz bay - Earn your surf session!

Situated on the coastal path, Cenitz beach is located in a site listed by the Conservatoire du Littoral for its local wildlife and unusual geology. It can be accessed via a cliff path or the fishermen’s path. Surf generally at high tide. It tends to be left or right depending on the tide, generally in the middle of the bay.

Les Alcyons or Harotzen Costa – A water children’s garden

This reef break beach has short left but powerful waves which can tube. Beware of the rocks. It’s best to know the site in order to surf there, or go with a local.

SAINT-JEAN-DE-LUZ There is a family beach in the city centre with no waves since it is in the bay. The sport beaches are further on. There are five of them, including Lafitenia which is a favourite among surfers where they can hurtle along the best barrels! The Lafitenia and Erromardie surfing hotspots are to the north, in the Acotz district. With Ciboure – Socoa bay just opposite, this an ideal place for getting out on a stand-up paddleboard or in an outrigger canoe.

Lafitenia

One of the top point break spots on the Basque coast, this rocky right only has surf when there is a strong swell. Different sections can be identified which are more or less distinct depending on the tide. Surf at all tides.

Erromardie

This vast sandy and rocky beach has a long left in the centre of the bay at half tide, and a right further north in the bay when there is a consistent swell. The latter can be surfed at high tide, and is for experienced surfers only because of the large number of rocks. The spot is also well known for its famous Guinguette restaurant, which is ideal for a post-session aperitif.

Sainte-Barbe

Situated at the foot of the eponymous hill, this spot can be accessed from offshore via the Digue aux Chevaux. Here, surfers can ride THE Sainte-Barbe wave, which less adventurous people can catch in an outrigger canoe!

HENDAYE 3km long, Hendaye is the largest fine sandy beach on the Basque coast. It is also the final beach before the Spanish border. It was at Hendaye that Pauline Ado surfed her first waves. The fine sand and slight slope make the beach ideal for beginners. Surf schools from all along the Basque coast often come here with their students.

Practical information EQUIPMENT

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARD Beginners or experts, skilled (or less so!) surfers, fans of small waves, big barrels or tubes, amateurs or thrill-

seekers, there’s a type of board for everyone!

Shortboard: this is the most common type of board. Short and narrow, it is designed for surfers with at least a basic level of technique. If you are a complete beginner, choose a different type of board for your first season.

Hybrid: this type of board measures between 1.90m and 2.20m and is wider than the shortboard. Its thickness and width make it more easy-going while still offering the possibility for basic manoeuvres for those beyond beginner level. Lots of intermediate surfers use hybrids as a smaller board even though it lacks a little character. It is a good compromise between the liveliness of the shortboard and the comfort of the mini-malibu.

Fish: similar to a hybrid but is a lot shorter and is wider. It has a fair amount of volume, so is perfect for small waves. This type of board is very trendy. More and more surfers use it instead of their longboard or mini-malibu in the small summer waves. The problem is that these boards are limited to specific wave conditions: when it’s hollow and big, the fish just doesn’t cut it. So you need a second board.

Mini-Malibu and Egg: 2.20 to 2.60 metres long and 52 to 56cm wide, these stable boards provide easy riding for beginners or intermediate surfers in mushy summer waves. The mini-malibu is definitely the easiest board to surf with, but duck diving becomes difficult and manoeuvres are fairly limited. It’s a good board for those who don’t surf often enough to use to a shortboard but still want a good ride.

Longboard: minimum 2.75 metres long (9 feet: we talk in feet in surfing), can be as wide as 56cm and very thick. The longboard, also called a Malibu, will give you a gentle old-school ride. It is not necessarily recommended for beginners because it is a heavy board and is difficult to manoeuvre. Crossing the breaking zone is also a gruelling task because duck diving with a longboard requires good technique and strong arms. It’s better if you have bit of experience. That said, with a longboard you will take off before anyone else just as the wave starts to take form. Another advantage is that longboards (and this is also true for mini-malibus) will take you through the mushier sections of the wave giving you brilliantly long rides.

Gun: this type of board is specially designed for big waves and measures from 2.10m to 3m or more with a very narrow tail. These boards are unanimously not recommended for beginners and are best left to specialists!

In Biarritz alone there are approximately thirty, and fifteen or so in Anglet!

RECYCLE YOUR BOARD AIR (Agence Innovation Responsable), a company in Anglet, has been collecting broken surfboards since summer 2014 in order to recycle them.

After realising that some 10,000 boards ended up “in the bin” every year and thanks to a crowdfunding initiative, Benoit Dandine, a young engineer in environment and innovation, started making new boards out of old ones he collected. Before inventing a delaminating machine (a technical term for stripping a board) he did the work by hand in order to re-use the polystyrene and give boards a second life: “Give your ex a second life”.

Practical information NOT JUST SURFING!

THE BASQUE COAST REFLECTS THE MULTIPLE FACETS OF THE OCEAN On the beach, there’s beach volleyball, sandcastle competitions, sand sculptures, yoga, reading or lazing around… but the ocean can match that with its numerous boardsports including bodyboard, stand-up paddleboard, sky surfing, outrigger canoe etc.

BODYBOARDING Invented by Tom Morey, this sport uses a small foam board which the bodyboarder rests their chest on while their arms control their movement. Bodyboarders must have a pair of short fins to make catching the waves easier. BODYSURFING This is the most refined discipline in the surfing world. Bodysurfers surf directly using their body, with no board or other device between themselves and the waves. They let the wave carry them and control their movement with their arms while their body remains in perfect tension. STAND-UP PADDLEBOARD Also known as SUP, this activity entails standing up on the board and using a paddle to propel yourself on the water. From simple excursions to competitions in surfing waves, the discipline is continuing to grow.

SKIMBOARDING Skimboarding involves standing up on a light wooden board and surfing a wave from the beach at the water’s edge. The sport gets its name from the action of “skimming” over the small waves.

WINDSURFING This sport uses an unsinkable board, or float, and a rig that is joined to the board at the base of the mast. Windsurfing is characterised by the windsurfer’s standing position and the lack of rudder and sheets. The windsurfer raises and maintains the mast and sail in position, steering themselves on the water by tilting the rig back and forth or changing their position on the board.

WAKEBOARDING Wakeboarding is a water sport that involves a combination of techniques from water skiing, snowboarding and surfing. Definition: wakeboarders are attached to a motorboat or a t-bar lift by a cord, which tows the individual who glides along the water while remaining upright on a surf or skate-type board.

OUTRIGGER CANOE This small vessel has a single float that means it can be used on the sea and in the waves, a great activity to do with friends!

Surfing, a state of mind TRENDY DESIGNS

A WAY OF LIFE The surfing lifestyle is just as hot on the pages of

fashion magazines as it is on the beach. The launch of Chanel’s new 2012 spring/summer collection featured two young models dressed in Chanel suits strutting along the Grande Plage walkway, a black and ivory longboard under their arms. Chanel and surf again! A TV advert this time for the ‘Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême’ perfume. Then a second advert presenting the collaboration between Diane Von Furstenberg and Roxy, the women’s brand by Quiksilver group.

100% surfwear lifestyle based on an ever-buzzing culture: California “made in France”.

There are few places that inspire so many artists. In the Basque Country, minds are always in motion, just like the Ocean.

BTZ It all started in 1980 with BTZ, the iconic brand created by Bruno Baradat and Laurent Fagola. In summer 2015, the brand opened a concept store in Place Bellevue, Biarritz, which is dedicated to textile products and accessories. For more information: www.btz-biarritz.com

ALBERTINE, trendy bikinis For all fashionistas, Albertine has created stylish bikinis which are easy to wear. Sisters and designers Anémone and Caroline have created collections which are directly inspired by their childhood memories, with a mix of plain and printed designs. A retro style, both chic and trendy which breaks away from the usual trends you see on the beaches! For more information: www.albertine-swim.com

CETUS “Cetus Biarritz is a sportswear line for men and women that was born from a desire to dress for the sea. It offers technical, good-quality and fashionable wetsuit and swimwear ranges. Its style is retro-modern with carefully designed and refined lines using exceptional materials to meet new requirements. COMB’HARD When neoprene meets fashion and accessories! Thomas Renaud, founding stylist of Comb’hard, never reins in his imagination. His streetwear designs include jackets, coats, skirts etc. For more information: www.combhard.com

BASK IN THE SUN Bask in the Sun uses a clever double meaning to define this textile label designed with the Basque Country seafront in mind. The identity of the brand, which is exclusively dedicated to men’s fashion, has been shaped by the unique story of its creator, from a family tradition of weaving linen going back 3 generations to experience in clothing retail alongside Japanese fashion designers. BAIN A brand-new swimwear brand for bold men and women. Designed in Biarritz and manufactured with care in France. Bain was born from a dream shared by two friends, Cindy and Nicolas, inspired by the 1970s, surfing, art and shared moments. The brand proposes unique designs with a slightly vintage feel. To protect the environment, the products are made locally, using environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing techniques. The raw materials are of European origin, thus reducing CO2 impacts. Their commitment to the environment is also strengthened by their close attention to environmental issues, the frequency and intensity of storms, coastal erosion and rising water pollution. ‘This is why we use Econyl fibre made from plastic recovered from the oceans.’ For more information: www.bainiade.com

KANABEACH The surfwear brand from Finistére has made a comeback, this time in Bidart. It has chosen the Basque Country to support short distribution circuits. BEACH ART, where the beach is an artist’s canvas Within the space of just a few years, Samuel

Dougados has made a name for himself in the world of beach art (drawing in the sand with a stick or rake) and became World Champion last October. ‘To keep moving, beauty must be short-lived’. Samuel Dougados, who goes by Sam as his artist’s name, has adopted this sentence by Robert Doisneau as his own. It provides a response to the invariable question: “But do you not get frustrated with your work disappearing by the inevitable action of the tide?” For more information: www.sam-dougados.com

History, art, culture and surfing Who dared to create the 1st surf shop with an indoor skate ramp in his warehouse in Biarritz? The Tonton Surfeurs and teenagers from the 1970s remember it well! Gérard Decoster was the first to turn the surfing world into an art! A keen collector of surfing objects and a pioneer in numerous events, he also recently created M.I.A.C.S, an art exhibition centre dedicated to surfing. He brings his collections to life through different venues and works and is currently looking for a location to showcase his unique collection. For more information: Surf Art and History Festival Tel. 00 33 (0)6 11 30 80 45 www.surfing-memory.com

Surfing, photography, sculpture and vintage Fabien Cayeré, plastic artist, photographer and sculptor born on the Basque coast, is passionate about traditional photography techniques (polaroid transfers, photogram, etching, screen printing, analogue photography etc.) Surfing is the main theme of his work. In 2011, he attended the Roxy Jam festival in Biarritz during the World Longboard Championships and produced pinhole portraits of Kassia Meador, Jennifer Smith, Kélia Moniz, Colin Whitebread, Coline Ménard, Pandora Decoster etc. The combination of contemporary images and the techniques he uses produces work that is both vintage and timeless. For more information: cayere.wordpress.com

SURF ART for women Delphine Priem sculpts women and waves in cut glass. For her “A woman is beautiful, she has curves and shapes. It’s interesting to use in mosaics”. Brought up in a sea-themed culture, she also likes boardsports and reinterprets them in her mosaics, which she embellishes with materials she finds such as driftwood or fragments of glass. This is also a reference to recycling and protecting the environment, something which is very important to her. Femininity and nature are both sources of inspiration for Delphine: “Nature, in its representation, is very feminine. It’s full of curves and lines. And a surfing woman is beautiful”. Surfing culture in pencil Yann Hubert has a keen eye for detail. He has made a specialty out of depicting key items and symbols of surfing culture in felt tip pen and pencil. He believes that “surfing culture consists in icons. Not just icons of surfing, but also icons of products that are beautiful to look at, and which accurately define the essence of the culture”. The artist rarely misses out on his daily session, because it’s while surfing that he gets his inspiration. For more information: y-inkonpaper.fr

Surfing, a state of mind AN ENTIRE CULTURE

MUSIC BETTY THE SHARK

Lee-Ann Curren is a pro surfer who was born in Biarritz. She is also passionate about music and leads the rock group Betty The Shark. With a 3-time-World-Champion as a father (Tom Curren) and her mother being a France and European surfing silver medallist, Lee-Ann has “grown up surfing since the age of 5-6”. She herself became European Champion in 2007 and 2009, and was ranked 12th in the world in 2010. Her father also taught her music, and she formed her own group in which she is singer and bassist. The group released its first album in 2014 and an EP at the end of 2016, whose style is “a mix of new wave and disco, with spacey sounds”. But Lee-Ann isn’t ready to give up her board and favourite spot just yet! For more information:

BONAIR From Bidart to Guéthary, Gaëtane and Guillaume have not travelled very far… they have instead stayed attached to the magic of the Basque coast and their daily surfing sessions. This is not to say that their music hasn’t travelled. The duo, inspired by their trips, encounters, hits from the 1950s and 1970s and surf music, sing “happy and vibrant folk music that talks about life”. They released an EP in October 2016 and are on tour in France from January to June 2017. For more information:

A SURF HOUSE Maison du Surf opened in Biarritz in July 2016 and is dedicated to surf culture. It is located in the heart of the Etablissement des Bains de la Côte des Basques. The aim is to reconnect with the tradition of this emblematic place, where the Waikiki Surf Club (the first surf club in France) was created in 1959. Maison du Surf holds surfing retrospectives and SURFART exhibitions, and also offers free Wi-Fi access, a Surf library with books and magazines such as the Surf Session collection since 1986, a playlist of films on a big screen, a list of spots, shapers, competitions, surf schools and surfer rules etc. Surfing Events will also be held such as dedications, award ceremonies or private viewings.

» a déclaré Curren.

60 ans de surf Biarritz, berceau du surf européen, fête les 60 ans du surf sur les vagues françaises cette année : expos, concerts, contest, surf art, surf movies.
