Au kiosque 2002, ClaroNav est pré-sent avec sa technique de chirurgie guidée. Avec le système de navigation chirurgicale « Trace and Place » de Navident, l’enregistrement peut être fait en utilisant un CT scan récent de la mâchoire du patient. Ce dernier permet une réduction de l’ordre de 77% des doses de radiations sans altérer la qualité de l’image. Place” dynamic navigation instrument, registration is accomplished by using any recent CT scan of the jaw, selecting it on-screen and then tracing three of the patient’s teeth or other structures (such as braces or abutments). It’s all done in the chair, immediately before surgery. No stent or guide needs to be prepared, and the entire registration process can be completed in about three minutes. It’s difficult to describe, but fascinating to see in action, which you can do by visit-ing the booth.

In the giant Dentsply Sirona booth (No. 1001), you can get a close look at the company’s new universal composite

restorative TPH Sepctra ST. The imagina-tive science behind the material makes it non-sticky (easy to work with), highly resistant to staining and 60 percent higher in wear resistance. The company also has two CEREC MCXL milling machines operating.

In the Planmeca booth, No. 317, you can learn about the Ultra Low Dose pro-tocol for its CBCT imaging that delivers an average 77 percent reduction in radia-tion dose with no reduction in image quality. Other technology from Plan-meca addresses the primary disruptor of CBCT 3-D image quality: patient move-ment. The company calls the technologi-cal advancement Correction Algorithm for Latent Movement (CALM).

In the Shofu booth, No. 622, den-tists, hygienists, assistants and other team members can use the new and improved EyeSpecial C-III digital dental camera. Its preprogrammed settings are designed specifically for ease of use in dental applications. Plus, the camera is water-, chemical- and scratch-resistant, and it can be quickly disinfected with a sterilizing towelette.

n Periodontal tissue regeneration has been demonstrated to be promoted either when the Nd:YAG laser or Er:YAG laser is being used individually as an adjunct to mechanical therapy. The same or presumably even better result is expected when both laser therapies are performed in combination using the TwinLight® protocol. My clinical experience confirms this conclusion: Bone regeneration is observed as one of the positive outcomes of the Light-Walker® laser TwinLight treatment.

In this paper, I report on one of my more difficult cases, in which the peri-odontal TwinLight laser treatment was additionally combined in tandem with the endodontic PIPS® laser treatment, both exclusively available with the LightWalker dental laser.

Radiographs taken before and three years post-op demonstrate significant bone regeneration. My clinical expe-rience confirms the conclusion of a recently published five-year retrospec-tive study that concluded that bone regeneration is observed as one of the positive outcomes of the TwinLight treatment.

CaseA 72-year-old male in otherwise good health presented with an endo/perio lesion of the mandibular left second molar (Fig. 1).

The tooth was the distal abutment of a four-unit fixed partial denture. The patient’s chief complaint was soreness to chewing pressure and a chronic dull ache on the left side of his jaw. He had recently seen his family dentist and an endodontist, both of whom had advised him the tooth was hopeless. A single

appointment of 1.5 hours included PIPS laser endo, TwinLight periodontal treatment and bridge repair.

ConclusionIt is the author’s contention that the success of this case can be attributed largely to the gentle nature of the Twin-Light and PIPS treatments available in tandem with the Fotona LightWalker laser.

Traditional root-canal treatments

and periodontal surgery both create a great deal of mechanical stress on the periodontium as endodontic instru-ments engage dentin within the canals, and scalers and ultrasonic instruments debride and root plane the diseased cementum.

Laser energy does not create mechanical stress, and its bactericidal nature as it works within the canals and on the perio defect is an additional benefit.

The radiographs taken before and three years post-op demonstrate signif-icant bone regeneration following the combined TwinLight laser periodontal treatment.
