    Embassy news

Dear TCCC Members and Friends of the Chamber,

Andrea and I wish to inform our many friends associated with the Thai-Canada Chamber ofCommerce that we are returning to Canada.I have been asked to take on new responsibilities supporting the Canadian Government's Foreign

Policy Plan, which places a strong and growing emphasis on Canada-Asia relations. Ottawa wanted

more senior Asia capacity in headquarters for this purpose and at a key time. I believe its exciting forall of us in Thailand and the rest of the region that there is a new emphasis on the ASEAN region inparticular. My title will be Senior Advisor on Canada-ASEAN Relations.

While I am inspired by the chance to influence policy at a senior level, a rare opportunity, Andreaand I are also of course saddened to be leaving Bangkok earlier than planned.

I depart feeling a deep sense of satisfaction that Canada's' impact and profile in Thailand andneighboring countries has grown in the 2.5 years I have served as Ambassador. This is the product ofa tremendous partnership between the Embassy and the TCCC, and reflects the successes and effortsof a great many wonderful individuals and organisations.

I wish to take this opportunity to express my profound appreciation to the TCCC staff, Board, mem-bers and friends for the unwavering support and friendship extended to Andrea and me during our timein Thailand. We feel truly privileged to have had the pleasure of establishing so many friendships, andin witnessing so compellingly what Canada and Canadians are capable of when we work together.

There is some urgency to our departure, and much to do in executing it, so I wish to express myprofound appreciation to everybody now. If we don't get a chance to see you before we leave, I'mconfident that there will be future opportunities. I'll of course continue to work on Canada's relationswith the region and look forward to engaging with Canadian companies to this end.

Andrea and I will always look back on our time together fondly, and look forward to being back in thearea some time soon.
