BOVIAR SYSTEME DE SURVEILLANCE D’UN ÉDIFICE RELIGIEUX

Dans le cadre du programme de Sauvegarde du Patrimoine, le «Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime» de Syracuse a été classé parmi les monuments et les bâtiments les plus représentatifs. Le Sanctuaire est réalisé en béton armé et constitué d’une crypte, une grande salle au rez-de-chaussée d’environ 4 000 m² et une structure couvrante imposante appuyée sur 22 piliers. Le diamètre de la base de la coupole est de 71,40 m et la hauteur de 74,30 m. La région est située dans une zone à risque sismique assez élevé et en 2006, grâce à des opérations comportant une atténuation du risque, les appuis originaux ont été remplacés par des éléments capables de répartir l’énergie à travers le soulèvement de la coupole. Boviar a installé un système de surveillance réparti sur toute la struc-ture, qui intègre différents capteurs pour mesurer les mouvements (entre la coupole et les fondations), la vitesse du vent et l’accélération. Ce système de contrôle continu est connecté au système central de l’Observatoire sismique des structures de la protection civile (Osservatorio Sismico delle Strutture della Protezione Civile) et au Département du Génie Civil de l’Université de Naples Federico II (Dipartimento di Ingegneria Strutturale de l’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II).

MONITORING SYSTEM FOR A RELIGIOUS BUILDING | The religious building “Our Lady of Tears” in Syracuse is one of the constructions included in the Italian network of struc-tures permanently monitored by the National Department of Civil Protection. The building is made in bare concrete and consists of a crypt, a clear area for the audience, some 4000 m2 large, on the ground floor, and a majestic dress-shaped dome resting on 22 reinforced concrete pillars. The dome has a base diameter of 71,40 m and a height of 74,30 m. The area where the building is situated is rated as medium-high seismic risk and so in 2006 the whole dome was lifted and its original supports were replaced with energy-absorbing elements in order to mitigate the risk. A site-specific integrated monitoring system was im-plemented by Boviar by installing different sensors all over the construction for monitoring 2D and 3D displacement at the domebase interface; wind velocity with direction; and ac-celeration. This continuous control system is 24h/day actively linked with database of OSS (Italian Watch Centre for Seismic Risk) of the Italian Dept. of Civil Protection as well as to the Dept. of Structural Engineering of University of Naples “Federico II”.

B5 PROJET EXECUTIF DE LA RESTAURATION DES FAÇADES DU COLISEE

La restauration des façades Nord et Sud du Colisée (Rome) est conçue au moyen de méthodes délicates sur les surfaces et les formes. Le projet exécutif, réalisé par la société italienne B5 S.r.l. (Francesca et Ugo Brancaccio, spécialisés dans la restauration du pa-trimoine), avec Didier Repellin, suite à un concours international (2013-2016), a été com-mandé par le Ministère de la Culture et parrainé par Tod’s. La doctrine de la restauration a été suivie en insistant sur la connaissance et l’action, à travers les lignes directrices de « réversibilité potentielle », « compatibilité », « intervention minimale », « caractère dis-tinctif ». Le projet a prévu de nettoyer, consolider, protéger le monument, en conservant, sous les couches de poussière, saleté et croûtes, toutes les couleurs et les patines prises par le travertin au fil du temps, et aussi d‘ajouter des grilles en acier, pour un usage flexible et aux normes, dans le respect des matériaux et des formes existants.

EXECUTIVE PROJECT OF THE RESTORATION OF THE FAÇADES OF COLISEUM (ROME) | The restoration of the Northern and Southern façades of the Coliseum (Rome) is conceived through delicate methodologies on surfaces and shapes. The executive project, by the Italian firm B5 srl (Francesca and Ugo Brancaccio, specialized in heritage restoration) win-ner, with Didier Repellin, of the international tender (2013-2016), was commissioned by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and sponsored by Tod’s. The doctrine of restoration was followed by emphasizing knowledge and action, through the guidelines of «potential re-versibility», «compatibility», «minimum intervention», «distinctiveness». It aims not only at cleaning, consolidating, protecting the monument, by preserving, beneath the layers of dust, dirt and crusts, all colors and patinas formed on travertine over time, but also at adding iron gates, for a more flexible use and in accordance with security standards, designed having respect for existing materials and shapes.

GRAPHITE CONSOLIDATION DES SCULPTURES EN MARBRE

L’utilisation de polymères renforcés de fibres sur les artéfacts historiques représente une technique innovante pour la consolidation structurelle et la rénovation des sculptures en marbre. La restauration du monument des Martyrs à Naples est un exemple de la façon dont le FRP peut être appliqué avec des techniques différentes selon le type de dommage. Les essais ont été réalisés par le département d’ingénierie des matériaux et de production de l’Université de Naples « Federico II ». La restauration de la queue des lions de marbre a été faite en collaboration avec Olympus-FRP, Tepco et Brigante Engineering. Le projet portait sur les fragments récupérés de la queue du « Lion courant transpercé d’une épée » réassemblée en insérant des barres en fibre de carbone fixées par une résine époxy et la partie de la queue du « Lion au regard menaçant », anciennement substituée par une pro-thèse en béton, recréée en utilisant une barre interne élargie de polyuréthane recouverte de PRFC et de résine époxy, finie avec une résine acrylique de FRP à mailles.

CONSOLIDATION OF MARBLE STRUCTURES | Use of Fiber Reinforced Polymers on historic artifacts represents an innovative technique for structural consolidation and re-instating of marble sculptures. The restoration of Neapolitan Martyrs Monument is an example of how the FRP can be applied with different techniques for different types of damage. Preliminary tests were performed by the Material Engineering and Production department of the University of Naples “Federico II”. The restoration of the marble lions’ tails was carried out in collaboration with Olympus-FRP, Tepco and Brigante Engineering. The project involved the recovered fragments of the tail of the “Lion run through with a sword” reassembled by inserting carbon-fiber bars fixed by epoxy resin and the portion of the tail of the “Threatening look lion”, formerly substituted with a concrete prosthesis, recreated by using an inner expanded-polyurethane bar covered with CFRP and epoxy resin, finished with a FRP-meshed and acrylic-resin.

IBIX LE SYSTÈME VORTEX POUR LE NETTOYAGE

Un récent succès pour IBIX a eu pour objet la restauration du bâtiment nommé Cà Brutta à Milan, Italie. Les technologies IBIX et notamment le système vortex breveté HELIX, ont permis d’éliminer les couches qui avaient altéré les couleurs des façades. Pour les interventions, les restaurateurs ont utilisé IBIX Art (almandin de granulométrie fine) et une vaporisation d’eau. Le traitement visait l’élimination d’une surcouche de peinture ocre qui avait été appliquée dans les années 70. IBIX a proposé une approche scientifique du nettoyage, une méthode capable de déterminer la meilleure solution de traitement, à savoir une méthode permettant d’obtenir la meilleure relation entre l’efficacité du net-toyage et le respect de la surface traitée. Cette approche de l’ouvrage de conservation a déjà obtenu d’importantes reconnaissances en Italie et dans le monde. Elle a été utilisée dans la restauration de certains parmi les monuments historiques internationaux les plus importants : le Capitole à Washington, la Tour Eiffel et le Musée du Louvre à Paris, les colonnes de Bernini sur la Place Saint-Pierre au Vatican, la fontaine de Trevi à Rome etc.

VORTEX SYSTEM FOR CLEANING | A recent success case history for IBIX was the Ca’ Brutta restoration work in Milan. IBIX technologies and, in particular, the HELIX vortex system, removed patinas that had altered the colors of the facades. IBIX Art – fine alman-dine – was used as cleaning media with sprayed water. In particular, an ocher repainting dating back to the 70’s was treated. IBIX proposed a scientific approach to cleaning, a method which can determine the best treatment solution, i.e. a method allowing the best ratio between cleaning and respect for the treated substrate. This approach to conserva-tion work already obtained important acknowledgments in Italy and in the world and was used in the restoration of some of the most important international monuments: Capitol Hill, Eiffel Tower, Trevi Fountain, just to mention a few.

L’art de la restauration de livres, codes et gravures est de plus en plus important, notam-ment pour les manuscrits fragiles qui nécessitent de traitements spéciaux pour réparer le dommage dû à causes biologiques, mécaniques et chimiques et ralentir leur dégradation, et surtout, récupérer leur facilité d’utilisation. L’atelier de restauration Niola, qui a une longue expérience, intervient avec des méthodes de pointe et des matériaux appropriés. Notre point de référence pour les techniques et les matériaux est l’Institut central de la restauration et la conservation des archives et livres du patrimoine du Ministère du Patrimoine et de la Culture. Le travail de restauration a été effectué selon les lignes directrices et les techniques définies par le ministère en utilisant des matériaux adaptés.

RESTORATION, REHABILITATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF STABIAN BATHS IN POMPEI | The restoration project aimed at structural improvement with the objective of respecting and enhancing at the same time the original characteristics of the structure. SYSTÈME D’ÉCLAIRAGE ET SYSTÈME DE CONTRÔLE DOMOTIQUE DE LA CATHEDRALE DE NARDÒ (LECCE)

Pour la réhabilitation de la Cathèdrale de Nardò, classée monument historique, nous avons conçu un système d’éclairage qui permet d’optimiser la consommation électrique et donc de réaliser d’importantes économies d’énergie. Toutes les sources lumineuses sont équipées de variateurs de lumière et d’ampoules halogènes ou LED. Un contrôleur domotique permet à la fois de programmer l’éclairage, par le biais d’un système élec-trique d’interconnexion et de gestion BUS basé sur le protocole DALI, et, par le biais d’un système d’interconnexion basé sur le protocole KNX, d’assurer la supervision générale. Les sources lumineuses sont des dispositifs spécialement modifiés pour nous et équipés d’alimentation dimmable DALI pour les intégrer dans tout « scénario fonctionnel ». Ainsi, le cas échéant, pour mettre à jour les « scénarios » il suffira de reprogrammer l’installa-tion sans qu’il ne soit nécessaire de réaliser des travaux de maçonnerie ou d’installation.

LIGHTING SYSTEM AND DOMOTICAL CONTROL SYSTEMS | For the qualification process of the Cathedral of Nardò we designed a system aimed at providing the building with a new lighting system as well as at optimising consumptions for a remarkable energy saving. All illuminating devices are characterized by extreme flexibility, allowing to modify the lumi-nous fluxes through a continuous regulation of the load; moreover, using both halogen and LED lamps, the project provides for dual domotical control systems by an electronic system of interconnection and management (BUS) with a DALI protocol to manage the illumination and an electronic system of management and interconnection with a KNX (open) protocol to supervise. All illuminating devices are specifically conceived for us and equipped with DALI feeders and therefore all adjustable to each “functional scenar-io”. Hence, should the needs of the Cathedral change, it will be sufficient to update the “scenarios” and reprogramme the system, avoiding masonry works or interventions on the systems.

Le projet de restauration du Château de Ugento, au-delà de mettre en valeur le monu-ment, nous permet de revisiter l’existant avec le langage de l’architecture contemporaine. Inspiré par l’idée de l‘« union » entre historique et contemporain, il offre un jeu intelli-gent d’équilibre dans l’utilisation des matériaux et les choix de conception. Les actions prévues sur le monument sont la restauration et la réhabilitation conservative, visant à préserver le bâtiment et en assurer la fonctionnalité grâce à un ensemble systématique des œuvres qui, en conformité avec les éléments typiques, formels et structurels, per-mettent l’utilisation compatible des lieux. Le projet proposé prévoit la construction d’un musée où les nouvelles fonctionnalités sont insérées dans la préexistence historique du lieu, optimisant le système de viabilité, garantissant l’accueil et l’ouverture nécessaire à l’ensemble du complexe.

RESTORATION AND RENOVATION OF THE CASTEL OF UGENTO (LECCE)| The restoration project of the Castle of Ugento, in addition to enhancing the monument, has allowed contemporary architecture to interpret the past. It was inspired by the idea of “connect-ing” the rich historical past with contemporary techniques and materials and strikes a balance between the usage of materials and design choices. The interventions on the monument itself are meant to restore and conserve it for the future, allowing it to find a new functionality through a systematic set of works which, while respecting the typolog-ical, formal, and structural elements of the building, allow the intended future usages to be compatible with its past. The project’s mission includes the realization of a museum space, in which the new functionalities are in harmony with the historical layout optimiz-ing visitors’ movements and inviting and welcoming them to the entire complex.

Pendant les phases de la conception et de la construction, l’activité principale a été la reconstruction des dépôts au travers d’une action de consolidation de la maçonnerie en utilisant des matériaux naturels et composites. En plus, en ce qui concerne le patrimoine des livres, les activités de catalogage et de stockage dans des compacteurs ont permis l’optimisation de l’espace et la maximisation de la capacité d’accueil. Parallèlement à l’activité de reconstruction architecturale, un travail de restructuration d’art a été réalisé sur les façades et les éléments sculpturaux. Enfin, les vestiges d’une église préexistante ont été mises au jour grâce à des importantes fouilles archéologiques.

The key point in design and construction was the restoration of the storage units through the consolidation of the walls and ceiling by using natural and composite materials. In addition, we carried out the cataloguing, cleaning and storing in a compactable storage system of library materi-als to free up space and improve the building’s capacity. In addition to the architectural restoration, we restored the facades and sculptural elements. Important archaeological excavations brought back to light the ruins of a pre-existing church.

La crypte de la cathédrale Santa Maria Assunta à Crémone (Italie) a subi des dégâts im-portants à cause des remontées d’humidité. Plusieurs solutions ont été examinées et finalement le système Genié a été sélectionné car peu intrusif, abordable, inoffensif et durable. Une étude menée par Luigi Soroldoni (Conseiller scientifique en charge du pa-trimoine culturel et Professeur à l’académie « Aldo Galli » de Cômo) et Umberto Casellato a confirmé que le problème d’humidité de la structure a été finalement résolu. Après 16 mois de l’intervention, l’humidité s’est réduite de 2% et 4%.

THE CRYPT OF THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION IN CREMONA | The crypt was affected by extensive damage caused by rising damp. The bishop of Cremona decided to choose among various methods available in the market the most convenient solution to counter the problem in such a wide complex. The bishop resolved to install Genie, a solution based on the innovative electrophysical dehumidification technology using “multiple frequency impulses”. A study conducted by Luigi Soroldoni (scientific advisor for cultural heritage and professor at “Aldo Galli” Academy in Como) and Um-berto Casellato (former Associate Head of Research with IDPA - CNR) demonstrated that the problem was eventually solved. After 12 months from the installation, moisture in the walls fell heavily, by as much as 70% in some cases; after 16 months, the dehumidifica-tion process brought the rate of humidity of masonry down to a range between 2% and 4% (physiological rate in masonry).
