From a passion for golf comes a story with a happy endingOnce upon a time there were three local boys who had a crazy dream that one day they would build their own playground. It was a rather unrealistic hope, a pipe dream even, but in 1991 it became a reality. This may all seem a bit too much like a fairytale, but the story really does include a castle inhabited by a count, a host of landowners and a bewitching location set like a precious stone in fabulous surroundings of beautiful countryside. A lake said to contain the purest water in Europe, bright mountains that alter with the changing seasons, untouched forests: in short, a place shrouded in its own unique atmosphere, enough to set your imagination free and lead you into reverie. And the magic worked: our three heroes managed to convince everyone. So it was that their attractive proposition became a reality, taking the form of two golf courses designed by the architect Didier Fruchet: Le Belvédère, an 18-hole course, and the 9-hole Castors course. Twenty years on, a new chapter began when three golfing-fanatic friends decided to follow the same road as their predecessors. Falling in love with the extraordinary alchemy of the site, an out-of-the-ordinary place that brings together sport, nature and a good climate, like valiant knights they chose to take up a new challenge, setting out on a quest for excellence. In the pages that they will write together, Giez Golf Course is about to embark on a new story.

Il était une fois 3 enfants du pays qui eurent le rêve fou de créer leur propre terrain de jeu.

Une gageure, un pari même un peu démesuré qui devint pourtant réalité en 1991. Pour donner tout

son crédit à ce qui s’apparente à un joli conte de fées, l’histoire les mit en présence d’un château habité par

un comte, d’une kyrielle de propriétaires terriens et d’un lieu ensorceleur serti telle une pierre précieuse

dans un écrin naturel somptueux. Un lac réputé pour offrir les eaux les plus pures

d’Europe, des montagnes lumineuses et changeantes au gré des saisons, des forêts préservées, bref

un lieu baigné d’une atmosphère unique, propre à stimuler l’imagination et la rêverie.

Et la magie opéra : nos trois hérauts réussirent à convaincre tout le monde.

Leur séduisant projet se concrétisa alors sous la forme de deux parcours dessinés par l’architecte

Didier Fruchet : le « Belvédère » et ses dix-huit trous et le parcours des « Castors » avec ses neuf trous. Vingt ans plus tard, nouvel épisode : trois amis

passionnés de golf décident d’emboîter le pas à leurs prédécesseurs. Séduits par l’extraordinaire

alchimie du site, un lieu hors du commun qui associe le sport, la nature et le climat, ils décident

en chevaliers courageux de relever un nouveau défi : celui de la quête de l’excellence.

Avec ces nouvelles pages à écrire ensemble, le Golf de Giez est entré dans une nouvelle dimension.

A comme Antonioli Patrice, ancien membre de l’équipe de France de ski et commerçant à

Courchevel, B comme Bos Jean-Louis, président fondateur de Bos Équipement Hôtelier à Moûtiers

et M comme Mésère Patrick, commerçant à Méribel. Trois initiales qui scellent le renouveau du Golf de

Giez depuis la fin du mois d’avril 2009. Trois copains, dévorés par les mêmes passions…

celles du golf et de l’esprit d’entreprise.« Après que Jean-Marie Dufour, l’ancien propriétaire,

m’eût fait part de son intention de céder son entreprise, j’en ai informé Patrice et Jean-Louis.

Les convaincre de s’associer dans cette aventure fût extrêmement simple : nous fonctionnons à

l’identique. Nous partageons l’amour du golf et nous aimons les challenges » explique Patrick Mésère.Bénéficiant d’un savoir-faire et d’une expérience

avérée de chefs d’entreprise, Patrice, Jean-Louis et Patrick pilotent désormais le Golf de Giez et

se fixent des objectifs dignes d’une stratégie d’entreprise : élaboration de projets, conquête de

nouvelles clientèles, optimisation de la qualité du jeu et de celle du service. Cette dynamique de

développement démontre que ce golf entre lac et montagne possède un réel potentiel. Les premiers

résultats visibles et tangibles de ce nouveau souffle se manifestent progressivement : amélioration

des départs, notamment au niveau des Castors, installation de commodités sur le parcours,

club-house restructuré et agrandi, augmentation des surfaces de l’accueil et du Proshop et refonte du

restaurant. Patrice, Jean-Louis et Patrick parient sur la qualité, une qualité qui sera mise au service du jeu

et de la convivialité.

B is for Jean-Louis Bos, founding chairman of the hotel supplies company Bos Équipement Hôtelier in Moûtiers, and M is for Patrick Mésère, a Méribel businessman. Three initials to set in the seal on the refurbishment of Giez Golf Course that began in late April 2009. Three friends, consumed by the same passions… a passion for golf and the entrepreneurial spirit.«When the former owner Jean-Marie Dufour told me of his plans to sell his business, I told Patrice and Jean-Louis. Convincing them to join forces in this adventure was very simple: we all thought the same way. We share a passion for golf and we love a challenge,» explains Patrick Mésère.With the benefit of proven know-how and an impressive track record as business bosses, Patrice, Jean-Louis and Patrick now run Giez golf course and have set themselves objectives worthy of any company strategy, drawing up a business plan, winning over new clientèles and optimising the quality of the golf and service on offer. Their dynamic development approach shows that this lake-and-mountains golf course has real potential. The first visible and tangible results of this new impetus are gradually starting to become apparent: improvements to the tees, especially on the Castors course, installation of facilities around the course, a restructured and extended club house, an increased surface area for the reception and pro shop and a makeover for the restaurant. Patrice, Jean-Louis and Patrick are relying on quality, quality that will improve both the golf and the convivial atmosphere on the course.

Tels les maillons d’une chaîne, ils participent ensemble et à des degrés divers à l’animation et à l’organisation du golf :

chacun est responsable pour soi vis-à-vis des autres. Respect de l’autre, ponctualité, fiabilité sont des valeurs

qu’ils cultivent avec professionnalisme. Chaque jour, de l’aube au crépuscule, ils sont une trentaine

à tout mettre en œuvre pour que tout vise à la perfection. Le Golf de Giez fait appel à plusieurs métiers qui sont autant

de qualifications reconnues sur le terrain…Côté jardin, Gilles, le greenkeeper distribue au quotidien les rôles : Benoît et Aurélien ont en charge la tonte méticuleuse

des greens, Yann et Jean-Baptiste celle des fairways tandis que Jean-Louis et Xavier s’activent sur les roughs.

Côté atelier, Laurent et Christian mettent un point d’honneur à l’entretien et à la maintenance du matériel.

Côté accueil, ils ont le sourire ! À l’accueil du Belvédère, Aurore, Laure ou Corinne

sont de véritables ambassadrices tout comme Martine ou Ronald au chalet des Castors.

Côté jeu, Yan, Nicolas et Benoît, les trois pros incontournables du golf, ont pour objectif de vous initier ou de vous faire

progresser tout en vous faisant apprécier les subtilités du jeu et la qualité de l’environnement naturel.

Côté restaurant, Olivier et Mourad œuvrent en cuisine pendant que Julien, Bérengère et Joëlle dressent les tables

sur la terrasse où les saveurs vont s’inviter.Côté transport, René et Gilles assurent le déplacement

en navette jusqu’au trou numéro 4. Un départ en douceur vers les hauteurs du Belvédère.

Each member of staff is responsible for him or herself with respect to the others. Respect for others, punctuality and reliability are values that they cultivate with professionalism. Every day, from dawn to dusk, our thirty-odd staff leave no stone unturned in ensuring that we aim for perfection in everything we do. Giez golf club relies on a number of professions that are all qualifications recognised on the ground…Around the grounds, Gilles our greenkeeper distributes the roles on a daily basis: Benoît and Aurélien are responsible for meticulously mowing the greens, Yann and Jean-Baptiste carefully look after the fairways and Jean-Louis and Xavier are busy managing the rough.In the workshop, Laurent and Christian make equipment cleaning and maintenance a point of honour.And when it comes to the reception you’ll get, we’re all smiles! At the Belvédère reception, Aurore, Laure and Corinne are our ambassadors, with Martine and Ronald greeting you at the Castors reception chalet.When it comes to your game, the job of our three indispensable golf pros Yan, Nicolas and Benoît is to introduce you to the sport or help you improve while enabling you to appreciate the subtleties of the game and the quality of the natural surroundings.In the restaurant, Olivier and Mourad work hard in the kitchen while Julien, Bérengère and Joëlle lay the tables on the terrace which will later fill with the smells of fine cuisine.Out transport staff René and Gilles run the shuttle out to the fourth hole. Neither too easy nor too technical, a particularly well proportioned course

The assessment of greenkeeper Gilles Salles.

«Our golfers love the beauty and peace and quiet of the countryside here, and the natural surroundings. It’s just right for golf, a place where you feel you’re enjoying a unique experience, from morning to night.» And with a 23-year career behind him, several responsible positions and lots of experience internationally, he knows what he’s talking about. Know-how that Gilles puts to good use for Giez Golf Club and our customers. His advice: Come at dawn for the atmosphere over Lake Annecy. You feel like you’re alone in the world! And what about the end of the day, when Mont-Blanc is lit up by the last rays of the dying sun. It’s unique! A must! To ensure you are properly organised and will not miss anything of the spectacles provided by Mother Nature, Gilles recommends allowing four hours for a round. His course analysis: A golf course that satisfies every requirement, offering something for everyone. His favourite hole in the seventh on the Belvédère, a hole set in the forest with a view through to the lake. He is also really likes the fifth hole, which is more intense, more energetic, with lots of sloping ground which means that ball positioning must be more accurate. His challenge: Managing a team of around ten people, perfecting the turf every day (it is mown very short every day), looking after the fruit trees and ensuring that nature is respected (using natural fertilisers). A challenge that remains a passion!

instants uniques. » On peut lui faire confiance. 23 ans de métier derrière lui et de nombreuses responsabilités et expériences

à l’international. Un savoir-faire que Gilles met au service du Golf de Giez et de ses clients.

Son conseil :

Venir dès l’aube pour l’ambiance sur le lac d’Annecy. L’impression d’être seul au monde ! Et que dire de

la fin de journée où le Mont-Blanc s’illumine des derniers rayons du soleil. C’est unique !

Un must ! Pour bien s’organiser et ne rien rater de ces spectacles que nous offre Dame Nature, Gilles

conseille de prévoir quatre heures de jeu.

Son analyse du parcours : Un golf qui satisfait toutes les exigences et répond

à tous les goûts. Son trou préféré : le numéro 7 du Belvédère, un tour enchâssé dans la forêt avec une

percée sur le lac. Il aime bien aussi le 5, plus intense, plus sportif : tout en dévers, ce qui implique des

posés de balle plus délicats.

Son challenge : Manager une équipe d’une dizaine de personnes,

peaufiner chaque jour le gazon (tondu de près chaque matin…), prendre soin des arbres fruitiers,

veiller au respect de la nature (en utilisant des fertilisants naturels). Un challenge qui demeure une

passion !

An innovative approach and investment for the futureThe new management team at Giez golf club has legitimate ambitions that will benefit everyone. A new era is taking shape from the combined effect of initiative and a dynamic approach. Following La Terrasse restaurant (given a facelift) and the proshop (extended), other qualitative and quantitative improvements are lined up in the roadmap drawn up by the company running Giez Golf Club.Examples include priority improvements to the tees to give golfers a better game and the installation of toilets on the course.

La nouvelle équipe dirigeante du Golf de Giez nourrit des ambitions légitimes qui seront

profitables à tous. Une nouvelle ère se profile ainsi sous les signes conjugués de l’initiative et du

dynamisme. Après le restaurant La Terrasse (re-lifté) et le Proshop (agrandi), d’autres améliorations

qualitatives et quantitatives sont inscrites sur la feuille de route de la SA du Golf de Giez.

À titre d’exemples : les départs seront traités en priorité pour un jeu plus agréable, des toilettes

18-hole course | Par 72, 5,820 m (6,365 yds) with a view of the Roof of Europe, Mont-Blanc (4,808 metres), and Lake Annecy. In addition to the outstanding features of the site, Giez Golf Course is notable for its narrow fairways, large greens and wide open spaces dotted here and there with ornamental lakes casting still reflections of the surrounding ash, oak and poplar trees. Here on Le Belvédère there are no dizzy heights: the total height difference is 200 metres. Le Belvédère has a reputation as a technical course, gently hugging the natural shape of the terrain and gradually giving up its golfing secrets. But you must not let yourself be distracted by the amazing spectacle of nature that unfolds before you: your golf will need to be accurate and founded squarely on good technique.

les frênes, les chênes et les peupliers. Ici, sur le Belvédère, le vertige ne menace personne :

la dénivellation accuse 200 mètres. Le parcours du Belvédère, réputé technique, épouse en douceur le relief naturel, délivrant progressivement ses secrets de jeu. La révélation du spectacle que lui procure la

nature ne doit pas cependant le distraire. Le geste doit en effet être précis et empreint d’une

bonne technique.

9 TROUS | Terrain de jeux, d’entraînements et de compétitions. Ce parcours, homologué,

présente également plusieurs attraits, naturels et techniques : le débutant comme le joueur

expérimenté peuvent s’exprimer au contact des fairways et des obstacles d’eau.

Pour progresser, un Espace Enseignement (avec des professeurs, un grand practice

agrémenté de postes couverts, un putting green, des bunkers et une zone d’approche)

est à la disposition des golfeurs. Chaque semaine, le Golf de Giez vit au rythme des stages et des compétitions de classement.

9-hole course | A great course for playing, practising and competition play. This officially approved course also has a number of attractive natural and technical advantages. Both beginners and experienced players can express themselves on the fairways and through the water hazards. For improving their game, golfers have the use of a Learning Zone (with instructors, a large driving range with covered bays, a putting green, bunkers and an approach-shot area). Every week Giez golf club runs golf clinics and handicap competitions.

secrets d’une trajectoire réussie. Avant de passer à l’action, les golfeurs peuvent mettre en pratique les conseils et vérifier in situ leurs progrès.

Pour suivre le bon exemple ou tester bois, hybrides, fers et putters, l’idéal est le Practice avec ses 20 postes (dont plusieurs couverts).

Driving range: the very best in leisure and learning facilitiesIn staggeringly beautiful countryside, our Learning Zone has found the perfect practice ground. Near the Castors 9-hole course, our team of pros will pass on the quintessence of expert technique and the secrets of placing the ball where you want to. Before they go out on the course, golfers can put into practice what they have learned and check on their progress there and then. To follow the pros’ example or try out a new wood, hybrid, iron or putter, the perfect place is the driving range, which has 20 bays (many of which are covered). A putting green, practice bunkers and an approach-shot area complete this facility accessible to everyone from total beginners to experienced golfers.

YAN GALERAPour lui, dans cette région à forte attractivité (touristique et économique), le Golf de Giez

semble promis à une expansion durable et à un succès grandissant. « Ici, je me sens

vraiment dans mon élément. Je m’épanouis entre lac et montagne où l’enseignement du golf prend une dimension unique ». Ce Pro qui officie à temps complet, « full time job ! », organise des stages et dispense des

cours collectifs et particuliers. Il rappelle que le golf est une activité très saine, que ce sport

requiert concentration et dextérité et qu’on peut le pratiquer de 6 à 87 ans… Son spot de prédilection, le trou numéro 2 (en dessous du Club House) qu’on peut atteindre en 2 coups.

BENOÎT TARDYPro depuis 2 ans, il met à votre disposition,

et à celle des enfants en particulier, les acquis obtenus dans un club formateur de la région.

Il considère le Golf de Giez comme l’un des plus beaux de Rhône-Alpes.

« C’est super beau et le parcours cumule les attraits sportifs et techniques » résume-t-il.

Pour lui, le 18 trous a tout d’un « target golf ». Pas facile à scorer, surtout si on veut scorer

bas ! Au niveau esthétique, son trou préféré est le 7. Mais le 17 se révèle intéressant d’un point de vue strictement golfique.

NICOLAS PELLOUX« 27 trous, un des plus grands practices de la

région et un cadre somptueux ». Ce chambérien d’origine apprécie autant la

situation géographique que le parcours et son architecture qui s’articule sur le terrain

naturel, offrant ainsi un terrain de jeu unique. De février à novembre, il prend en charge les cours individuels et les stages. En dix ans de présence assidue, il a pu mesurer l’évolution

du parcours… « Une nouvelle impulsion a été donnée. Les nouveaux aménagements,

la restauration et la gestion du parcours conduisent ce golf vers la perfection » constate-

t-il. Pro mais aussi joueur, il affectionne particulièrement le trou numéro 9…

Yan GaleraYan thinks that with this region being so attractive (from both a tourism and an economic point of view), Giez golf club seems set for growing success and long-term expansion. «Here, I really feel in my element. I’m totally fulfilled in this mountain and lakeside location, where teaching golf takes on a dimension all its own.» Yan is our full-time pro, who organises clinics and gives group and individual tuition. He likes to remind people that golf is a very healthy activity, that the sport requires concentration and dexterity, and that you can play it from the age of 6 to 87… His favourite hole is the second (below the club house), which you can reach in two.

Benoît TardyA pro for two years, he passes on to his students (and children in particular) the skills acquired in one of the region’s clubs with a reputation for bringing on new players. He considers Giez golf course to be one of the finest in Rhône-Alpes. «It’s stunningly beautiful, and the course has loads of sporting and technical advantages,» he sums up. He thinks that the 18-hole course is just great for target golf. Scoring isn’t easy, especially if you’re trying to keep your score low! From an aesthetic point of view, his favourite hole is the seventh. But the seventeenth is interesting strictly from a golfing point of view.

Nicolas Pelloux«Twenty-seven holes, one of the largest driving ranges in the region and a magnificent setting.» Nicolas, who hails from Chambéry, loves the geographical location as much as he does the course and the way it is designed, making use of the natural terrain to offer a unique playground. From February to November he runs the individual lessons and clinics. A regular face at the club for ten years, he has seen just how much the course has come on. «It’s been given new impetus. The new facilities, the restaurant and the way the course is managed are taking this club to perfection,» he observes. A pro but also a player, he is particularly fond of the ninth hole.

La Terrasse Restaurant: relax in impressive surroundings full of history in our restaurant featuring sophisticated cuisineThe former tool works has taken on a new dimension by becoming the Giez international golf club restaurant. Only the main body of this historic building remains. Inside, golfers can get together in completely renovated surroundings. If you’re tempted by the fine dining on offer there are two particularly fine options for lunch. For players who are impatient to get back on the tee there’s a golfer’s set menu. Foodies looking for a superior dining experience and a convivial atmosphere have all the time they need to savour the main menu and our gastronomic set menu. And don’t forget the terrace, with its panoramic view over the course, Lake Annecy and the Mont-Blanc range.

L’ancienne taillanderie a pris une nouvelle dimension en devenant le restaurant du golf international de Giez. De cet ensemble architectural historique, ne subsiste que le corps du bâtiment. À l’intérieur, les golfeurs

se retrouveront dans un cadre complètement rénové. Pour sacrifier aux plaisirs de la table, deux formules particulièrement

soignées sont proposées le midi : pour le joueur impatient de renouer avec le beau geste, un menu spécial golfeur. L’épicurien,
