PRINCIPE DE FONCTIONNEMENT / OPERATING PRINCIPLELe systme d'tanchit du robinet piston est origi-nal et se diffrencie totalement du systme d'tan-chit des robinets soupape et des robinets-vannes.L'obturateur n'est ni un clapet, ni un opercule, mais unpiston en acier inoxydable coulissant entre des ron-delles reprise lastique.

The piston valve has an original sealing system whichis completely different from that used in globe andgate valves.The closing device is neither a globe nor a plug but astainless steel piston which slides between elasticspring washers.

1 tanchit en ligneLa rondelle infrieure KXGT (graphite arm) assurel'tanchit en ligne, et joue le rle d'un sige souple.Contrairement au robinet soupape et au robinet-vanne, ltanchit est assure latralement sur toutela hauteur de la rondelle en contactavec le piston. Cette surface d'tan-chit est trs importante ; parexemple, pour un robinet piston deDN 25, elle est de 950 mm 2 pour unehauteur de 12 mm.

Les impurets invitables vhiculespar le fluide (limaille, particules derouille ou de calamine, perles de sou-dure, etc) peuvent gner la ferme-ture totale d'un robinet classique contact mtal/mtal ; par contre, onpeut toujours fermer un robinet pis-ton dont le piston nettoie lui-mme sonpassage la fermeture.

1 In-line sealing

The lower KXGT ring (re-inforced graphite) ensuresin-line tightness and functions as a soft seat.In contrast with globe and gate valves, lateral sealingis provided over the full thickness of the washer in

contact with the piston. The sealingarea is very large : 950 mm2 for a DN25 piston valve, with a washer thick-ness of 12 mm.The impurities which are inevitablyconveyed by the fluid (filings, rust or

scale particles, weld beads etc) mayprevent a conventional metal/metalvalve from closing completely. A pis-ton valve, however, always fullycloses since the piston cleans as itcloses.
