El trabajo en equipo

Cuando los gansos vuelan enformación su velocidad aumentaun setenta par ciento conrespecto a la que alcanzancuando viajan solos.

Nous devons atteindre les besoins essentiels. Il ne faut pas payer pour la santè primare. Katqa,Perou, besoin de sa propre clinique médicale, car la plus proche est a 6-km de marche. ADriftpile, en Alberta, les jeunes ont besoins d’activités afin de donner un alternatif aux drogues eta lalcool. Dans le Yukon, le système de l’éducation rurale à besoin denseignants formés pouraider les etudiantes diagnostiqués du syndrome de l’alcoolisme qui affecte le fétus.

Ce sont juste quelques exemples des nombreux problèmes que nous avons constatés cettesemaine à la conférence. Le gouvernement a besoin des ressources nécessaires et doitdémontrer la volonté de guarantir que tout les besoins des gens sont atteints. L’échange juste,non libre, va rendre ceci une réalite.

Les gens dabord, et non pas les profits.

We are all navigating the sea of globalization, and free trade is causing quite a storm. The richand powerful people, corporations, and countries are travelling in ocean liners, more powerful,faster, and bigger every day. In the waters below, the poor are struggling to stay at the surface.

We demand calm waters, where trading is done fairly, not freely. Fair trade will ensure there’sspace for everyone on the ocean liner. Everyone deserves a living wage, and free access to allsocial programs, especially health care and education. Basic needs must be met. Katqa (kath-ka), Peru needs its own health clinic, because the nearest clinic is a 6km walk away. In Driftpile,Alberta, young people need activities that provide alternatives to drugs and alcohol. In theYukon, the rural education system needs teachers trained to help students diagnosed with FetalAlcohol Syndrome.

These are just a few examples of the many problems we’ve learned about this week at theconference. Governments require the resources and must show the will to guarantee everyone’sneeds are met. Fair trade, not free trade, will make this a reality.

People first, not profits!!!

Nos encontramos navegando por el mar de la globalización—y el comercio libre está causandouna gran tormenta. Los paises, empresas y personas poderosas viajan en cruceros y son cadavez más poderosos, más grandes y rápidos. Debajo del agua los pobres luchan para salir a lasuperficie.

Demandamos un mar tranquilo, donde el comercio sea justo. Un comercio justo asegura quehaya espacio para todos en el barco. Todos merecemos un slario mínimo vital y el accesogratuito a los servicios sociales—sobre todo a la salud y la educación. Hay que atender primeroa las necesidades básicas.

No se debe pagar por la salud y los servicios básicos en salud. En K’atqa, Peru se necesita un hospitalporque el más cercano queda a seis kilómetros a pie. En Driftpile, Alberta los jóvenes necesitan realizaractividades que no sean tomar alcohol ni drogas.

En el Yukon, el sistema de educación rural necesita que los profesores estén capacitados para atender alos estudiantes que sufren del síndrome del alchoholismo a consequencia del consumo del alcohol por susmadres durante la gestación.

Estos son solamente algunos ejemplos de los problemas y soluciones que hemos compartido esta semanadurante la conferencia. Los gobiernos requieren recursos económicos y deben tener la voluntad degarantizar que se atienda a las necesidades de todos. Un comercio justo y no un libre comercio hará queeso se haga realidad.

La gente es primero y no la ganancia.

• Culture—our values, beliefs, lifestyles—is identity. Youth must discover their culture so thatthey may build unity.

• The systems of free trade currently in place are threatening our democratic rights; by favoringthe power of corporations, over that of the people. A balance between profit, environmentaland community interests, must be found and maintained. The middle class must beprotected, and the gap between the rich and poor eliminated.

• Democracy is the right of citizens to control the factors effecting their communities. Publicservices such as education, health care and protection of the environment must always bemaintained. All people deserve to have their desires incorporated in community decisions.

Globalization is imminent in the 21st century and we are concerned about what it means. Webelieve it may lead to child labour because it enables large companies to establish factories inunderdeveloped countries. Poverty may also lead to child labour and violence in manyunderdeveloped countries which result in even larger problems.
