Founded in 1924 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen (the founder of Republic of China), SYSU has borne historical marks at each turning point in the modern Chinese history. Now, a new era has just arrived: Feb 18, 2019, China defined “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (粤港澳大湾区) and announced its strategic development plan. The Greater Bay area includes 9 Pearl Delta cities in Mainland China, plus the two Special Administrative Regions (SARs), Hong Kong and Macau. SYSU has 5 campuses in the most developed 3 cities, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen on the Mainland side, with the Shenzhen campus as the latest expansion in applied sciences and engineering. Seizing this historical opportunity, together with the recent developments having been initiated since 2015, SYSU is now defining even more ambitious strategic plans of developing cross-discipline and big science projects at all frontiers. In this talk, we will introduce the recent developments at SYSU and highlight a few big science projects with details.
