Major Accomplishments
In my tenure as a school district superintendent, each of my three districts have showndemonstrated gains in student achievement. The increase in achievement included success for
minority students, which resulted in closing the achievement gap. These results were achieved
through several key district reforms initiatives including:
Identifying the needs of the students and school system through an extensive analysis of
both qualitative and quantitative data gathered through multiple sources.
Designing and implementing a district-wide strategic plan with accountability system forall schools and departments.
Creating a shared vision throughout the organization through the implementation ofdistrict-wide communications planengaging in board, administration and school
leaders, parents and the business community in improved dialogue about public education
needs, goals, and strategies for improvement.
Focusing on teacher quality through the development of relevant professionaldevelopment opportunities.
Facilitating the process of revising board and administrative policies and procedures sothey align with the strategic plan, the continuous improvement process, and the School
Boards governance goals.
Building meaningful relationships with union leadership and key community leaders.
Designing and implementing continuous improvement programs for both Salem-Keizer
School District and Clarksville-Montgomery County School District who have received
and maintain an ISO 9001 Certification. Only a few school districts in the nation haveearned this recognition.
Balanced district budgets despite multi-million dollar revenue shortfall, while continuing
to implement successfully district-wide improvement efforts.
Volunteered to be one of the first large school districts in Oregon to implement theCLASS and TIF projects.
Developed and implemented a new teacher mentor program through funding fromOregon Department of Education.
Collaboration with Western Oregon University, Corban University, WillametteUniversity to create a lab school within Salem-Keizer School District.
Created the first magnet school and an open enrollment policy in Mapleton SchoolDistrict in Colorado.
