FR - Amis du Monte-Carlo Film Festival, nous avons rejoint cette année avec courage et obstination le prestigieux objectif de la 18ème édition. Apres le succès incroyable de la précédente édition nous revoilà en 2021 ponctuels pour raconter des histoires de comédie, dans une salle, au cinéma. En 2020, nous avons été, parmi les nombreux festivals du monde, les rares à programmer le nôtre, et cela malgré le Covid. Utilisant toutes les précautions nécessaires conseillées par le Gouvernement de Monaco, distance en salle et sur la scène, masques et température à l’entrée du Grimaldi Forum etc.. Nous avons réussi le déroulement de notre Festival. Cette année encore, armés de prélèvements et vaccinations, nous voulons lancer le MCFF grâce au genre le plus aimé du public celui de la Comédie, un message d’encouragement, de confiance,

d’espérance pour retrouver nos chères habitudes: libres de tout confinement, libres de sortir de bouger de s’agréger, de revenir au cinéma en toute sécurité. Nous avons le plaisir d’avoir Raoul Bova Président du Jury un des acteurs les plus fascinants du Cinéma Italien (et d’Hollywood), un comédien capable de passer du drame à la comédie avec grand talent. A ses côtés dans le jury la brillante actrice française Sara Forestier (deux Prix Césars), l’acteur bien-aimé espagnol Mario De La Rose l’un des protagonistes de « La Casa di Carta », le comédien Giacomo Ferrara acteur révélation de « Suburra », a compléter le jury l’un des meilleurs critiques cinématographiques de la péninsule Mario Sesti. Au cours de cette 18ème édition, le public pourra visioner un éventail de films sélectionnés auxquels se sont ajoutés les Courtmetrages venus des coins du monde: Usa, Espagne, Italie, Israel, Irlande, Finlande et même du Pérou.

Notre Festival offre les conditions de voir des histoires, de découvrir des acteurs des cinéastes et des réalisateurs dont les films arrivent difficilement dans notre circuit cinématographique. Nous vous raconterons des histoires de mariages traditionnels organisés par un célibataire endurci, des amours entre Punk, une famille de la Camorra dont le fils ne ferait de mal même pas à une mouche, un irrésistible coiffeur à la retraite contraint d’exaucer le désir d’une de ses ex clientes mourante, l’histoire péruvienne de deux familles aristocratiques dont les secrets émergeront et changeront leurs rapports, l’histoire d’un autre coiffeur à Dublin aux prises avec la mafia locale, histoires de couples finis dans l’indifférence, ou jeunes mariés en proie aux fantômes du passé durant la nuit de noce.. Et cette dame de 75 ans qui après une violente dispute avec le mari s’éclipse avec ses sœurs à la découverte de

rêves jamais réalisés. E samedi 5 juin, au Grand Gala des AWARDS que j’aurai l’honneur de présenter, nous remettront les Trophées du MCFF à acteurs actrices et légendes du Cinéma. Comme Chazz Palmenteri (The Usual Suspects ) et Nick Vallelonga (deux fois Prix Oscar Green Book).

EN - Dear friends of the Monte-Carlo Film Festival, we have reached the prestigious milestone of the 18th edition with courage and perseverance. After the incredible success of last year, we return in 2021, bringing to you new comedy films.

In 2020 we were among the very few festivals in the world (literally a handful) which, despite Covid, have not stopped. Using all the precautions requested by the Monegasque government, such as distancing in the theater and on the stage, masks in every room and measuring temperatures at the entrance of the Grimaldi Forum, we were able to organize our event successfully and without any issues.

Also this year, amid rising requests for testing and vaccinations, the Monte-Carlo Film Festival wants to launch through comedy (the most beloved genre by the audience) a message

of courage, trust and hope to return to our normal habits and lifestyles: freedom from lockdown, freedom to go out, to move, to get together and to return to cinemas safely.

Raoul Bova will be our President of the Jury. He is a very talented and charming actor, that has also worked in Hollywood, with the ability to move from dramatic roles to comedy. He will be joined in the Jury by French actress Sara Forestier (2 times César winner), by the beloved Spanish actor Mario De La Rosa who is one of the protagonists of “La casa de papel”, the expert Italian cinema critic Mario Sesti and by Giacomo Ferrara, the revelation of Italian cinema, from “Suburra”.In this 18th edition you will see selected films and short films from the USA, Spain, Italy, Israel, and from new entry countries such as Peru, Ireland and Finland. Our Festival allows to see stories, discover actors, directors and

filmmakers whose films would never released on this area.We will tell you stories about traditional weddings organized by a single lady; a love story between punks; a ruthless ‘Camorra’ family with a son who wouldn’t hurt a fly; a retired hairdresser (Udo Kier) in Ohio who has to grant the last wish of a dying ex-client of his; a Peruvian story of two aristocratic families whose hidden secret emerges and will change their relationships; or that of another hairdresser in Dublin who has to deal with the local mafia; stories of couples who become indifferent to each other or couples who quarrel on their wedding night while they tell each other about their past; or of a woman who at 75 years of age hits her husband on the head with a pan and runs away with her sisters in pursuit of her dreams…On Saturday 5th of June at the Awards Gala Night, we will award many actresses, actors and international

legends. Like Chazz Palmenteri (The Usual Suspects) and the 2 Academy Awards Nick Vallelonga (Greenbook).

EN - Inkeri, 75, after hitting her husband on the head with a frying pan, flees with her two sisters Raili and Sylvi. The journey through Finland is filled with charming hitchhikers, memories, and sinful dancing. When Inkeri comes across her old university writings and finds Eino, a crush from her youth, she is reminded of her dreams that were later suppressed by a patriarchal marriage. Inkeri has to make the biggest choice concerning the rest of her life, a choice between happiness and convention.

FR - Inkeri, 75 ans, après avoir frappé son mari à la tête avec une poêle, s’enfuit avec ses deux sœurs Raili et Sylvi. Le voyage à travers la Finlande est rempli d’auto-stoppeurs charmants, de souvenirs et de danses pécheresses. Quand Inkeri découvre ses anciens écrits universitaires et trouve Eino, un béguin de sa jeunesse, elle se souvient de ses rêves qui ont ensuite été supprimés par un mariage patriarcal. Inkeri doit faire le plus grand choix concernant le reste de sa vie, un choix entre le bonheur et la convention.

EN - Luzmila and Peta are two sisters who work as housemaids for Alicia and Carmen, two aristocratic ladies of Peru. They are almost considered a part of the families or, at least, that’s what it seems… But one day, as the city is taken over by violent protests, a birthday celebration gathers all the members of both families together. A long-held secret involving both households - upstairs and downstairs - is suddenly revealed, blowing up the bubble of their perfect aristocratic world forever.

FR - Luzmila et Peta sont deux sœurs qui travaillent comme femmes de ménage pour Alicia et Carmen et leurs riches familles au Pérou. Elles sont presque considérées comme des membres de la famille qu’elles servent, du moins il semble. Jusqu’au jour où la ville dans laquelle elles vivent est envahie par de violentes manifestations, une fête d’anniversaire rassemble tous les membres des deux groupes familiaux et un secret longtemps gardé, qui implique les deux familles - celle en haut et celle en bas. - est soudainement révélé, éclatant à jamais et détruisant la bulle de perfection créée autour de leur monde aristocratique doré.

(Honeymood begins when most ro-mantic comedies end, right after the wedding, when all that is left for the newlyweds is to live happily ever after).

FR - Honeymood est une comédie romantique qui se déroule au cours d’une nuit à Jérusalem. Un couple de jeunes mariés arrive dans une somptueuse suite d’hôtel après leur mariage. This evening, the neighbors will become both the instigators and victims of an emotional tsunami, brought on by an unusual and surprising proposal. The four neighbors can’t help but get caught up in an evening of excess and catharsis.

Simon est dédaigneux, agressif, et juste un tantinet pyromane sur les bords. Thick-witted Deano rules its streets with his tracksuit-clad boys, squeezing “protection” payments from the local businesses. When Michelle, the owner of Deadly Cuts - the salon where Stacey works with her mates Gemma and Chantelle - refuses to pay, the gang vandalizes the place, sabotaging Stacey’s Ahh Hair! avant-garde entry. However, one fateful night of accidental vigilantism leads to a reinvigorated community that soon rallies around the Deadly Cuts’ bid to win Ahh Hair!. But if Deadly Cuts is to win, they’ll have to takedown Dalton Chadwick, Dublin’s most elite network of hair technicians.

EN - Tonino Esposito is the awkward, clumsy son of a notorious Camorra boss in Naples. Everybody knows he wouldn’t hurt a fly, and that’s why, when his father dies, his role is taken over by an associate. Tonino does his best, he tries to extort protection money and to show force in an effort to act like his father, but it’s just not him. The best he can manage is a mediocre “camorrista”, with no respect from either fear or love. When his daughter starts dating the son of the very judge who is pursuing the downfall of Rione Sanità, the chance arises for Tonino to redeem himself before his family and the whole of Naples.

FR - Tonino Esposito, orphelin d’un patron de la Camorra, vit dans le quartier Sanità de Naples avec sa famille élargie. Tonino reçoit une subvention mensuelle du clan et pourrait vivre de revenus. Au lieu de cela, il veut obstinément imiter les actes de son père, sans réussir parce qu’il est maladroit, perdant, voyou et incapable de se défendre, mais il pourra se racheter.
