HistoriqueL’histoire de Nendaz commence très précisément le 19 mars 985. Unecharte atteste alors de l’existence de Basse-Nendaz et de ce qui estaujourd’hui Haute-Nendaz. Le Valais y devient même République indé-pendante; puis il lie définitivement son sort à celui de la ConfédérationHelvétique en 1815.

La Constitution fédérale du 12.09.1848 instaure le régime communalet l’égalité des droits des citoyens. Nendaz élit alors son premier conseilcommunal et son premier président, Jean-François Blanc, de Haute-Nendaz.

Actuellement, le conseil communal est composé de 11 membres, 6 duparti PDC, 3 du PLR et 2 socialistes avec comme président M. FrancisDumas.

Le vieux villageDécouverte des particularités du village de Haute-Nendaz en se bala-dant à travers granges, raccards et maisons traditionnelles. Visite gui-dée organisée par Nendaz Tourisme toute l’année (p. 14).

Le moulin du Tsâblo, un patrimoine sauvegardéA la fin du XIXe siècle, l'industrie des moulins était florissante sur lacommune de Nendaz. On comptait au moins 12 moulins en activité.En période de disette, la commune exportait de la farine de blé. Grâceà l’Association pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine nendard, le Moulindu Tsâblo a été entièrement reconstruit selon les règles tradition-nelles ; il se veut la mémoire du passé. Ce moulin est à nouveau enfonction depuis l'été 2003 plusieurs fois par année. La visite du vil-lage passe par le moulin.

Situé au fond du Val des Dix, à une heure de Sion en voiture ou en car postal, le site du barrage de la Grande Dixence peut se visiter librement et gratuitement durant tout l’été, de la mi-juin à la fin septembre

Le pavillon d’information du Chargeur, situé au pied du bar rage, vous donnera des rensei gnements généraux sur les sociétés Alpiq et Grande Dixence ainsi que sur l’amé-nagement Cleuson-Dixence, par le biais d’une exposition permanente.

Il est également possible de pénétrer à l’intérieur de l’im-pressionnant mur et de suivre un circuit balisé sons et lumières d’un kilomètre. Ouverture du circuit: tous les jours à 11h30, 13h30, 15h00 et 16h30 (inscription sur place, capacité: 40 pers. maximum par visite, durée: env. 1 heure, prix: adultes / CHF 10.-, étudiants-AVS / CHF 8.-, enfants / CHF 6.-, groupes / CHF 8.- par pers.). Le couron-nement peut être atteint à pied ou en téléphérique.

Vous pouvez aussi vous désaltérer ou vous restaurer à l’hôtel- restaurant Le Ritz et si besoin est vous loger pour la nuit (tél. 027 281 13 22).

Si vous êtes amateurs de balades en montagne, vous aurez l’occasion d’effectuer un parcours balisé en amont du barrage de la Grande Dixence dans un paysage gran-diose. D’une durée de 4 heures environ, le « Sentier des bouquetins » vous révèlera les secrets de la faune et de la flore du Val des Dix grâce à un fascicule disponible au pavillon d’information.

Le barrage de Cleuson barre le fond de la vallée de la Printse, à Nendaz. Construit entre 1947 et 1949, ce barrage de type gravité-évidé à contreforts, haut de 87m, retient 20 millions de m3 d’eau provenant d’un bassin versant qui recueille les eaux de la Printse et de ses af-fluents de la rive gauche jusqu’à Tortin. Il est visitable durant la période estivale sur réservation auprès de Grande Dixence SA ou sur inscription à Nendaz Tou-risme (tél. 027 289 55 89).
