Bad love affairs, bad grammar and bad hangovers – a typical week for Mademoiselle London whose drunken escapades in Paris are served up in this new graphic book. Bursting with comedy and colour, the book offers a sneaky peek at the well-hidden underbelly of Parisian life. Written in English AND French, “Mademoiselle London Loves Paris (Sometimes)” presents the opening chapter of her new life in Paris featuring drawings and poems in which our heroine - with her heart on her sleeve - wrestles with loneliness, language and some very dodgy characters.

Once upon a time there were two Londoners who wound up sitting opposite each other in a Ménilmontant café. Despite never having met before they soon realised they both felt as small as earwigs and as !dgety as ferrets as they waited for Paris to notice them.

So while they waited, these two Londoners decided to craft a creature no bigger than an earwig made from their Parisian adventures. "ey stuck it together with grenadine syrup and camembert cheese and made it ambidextrous. "e left hand would write, the right hand would draw, and it would go under the name of Mademoiselle London.

As time went on, Mademoiselle London took on a life of its own and soon it began to grow and grow until it became the size of Paris. And from up there on its shoulders, the two Londoners could see there were tons of English speakers and tons of French speakers who looked no bigger than earwigs, all !dgeting like ferrets wondering when Paris would notice them.

So the two Londoners fashioned a book by

sticking paper together with grenadine syrup and camembert cheese. They dedicated it to their creature and to all those fidgety impatient earwigs.

THIS FRENCH PREDICTIVE TEXT WOULD BE REALLY USEFUL IF I COULD ACTUALLY SPEAK FRENCH

L’INSERTION AUTOMATIQUE EN FRANÇAIS POURRAIT M’ÊTRE UTILE SI SEULEMENT JE PARLAIS FRANÇAIS

PARISIAN RABBITS WENT AT IT LIKE ANY OTHER RABBITS...

YOU ARE TOO LOUD FOR PARIS, MADEMOISELLE LONDONSaid the Little Lapin ChaudAs he sat at the barSipping his piss-poor demiSneaking peeks at himself in the mottled mirrorBehind the dusty liquors that no one drinksFlu$ng his fur andLooking over her shoulderTo see what new meatHad been delivered on the tourist truck

WE LIKE OUR BUNNIES QUIETSaid the Little Lapin ChaudAs he nodded over to Snow-WhiteWith her shiny new coat and paws crossed demurelyEyes cast down #uttering her lashes as sheTurned her back on the wolves

Mademoiselle London looked at herself in the mottled mirrorAnd saw her hair clumped with pain au chocolatAnd her eyes red with booze

SEE? Said Little Lapin ChaudYou stare too hard and you have your paws up Like you’re waiting for a big thick carrot

Mademoiselle London put her paws downHer eyes downAnd her hopes downAs the Little Lapin Chaud left her sideTaking a seat next to Snow White and smilingWith his lips closedCareful to hide his wolf teeth.

Page 11: Mademoiselle London
