Afrique de l’Ouest Le secteur privé, un groupe hétéroclite aux intérêts divergents : Le cas de la filière riz au Sénégal et en Côte d’Ivoire EPCDM, 3 décembre, 2015 Avec l’avènement des Objectifs de développement durable (ODD), le secteur privé est mis au cœur du développement. Le rôle clé du secteur privé en tant que créateur de richesse, d’emplois et de revenus, est depuis longtemps reconnu par la communauté internationale, comme le révèle ce blog de l’ECDPM de 2012. Malgré le long chemin parcouru, le « secteur privé » est souvent perçu comme un bloc monolithique aux intérêts communs, alors qu’il s’agit d’un groupe d’acteurs très hétéroclite. Ghana develops new hugh yielding and drought resistant rice variety REAP, December 11, 2015 The Crop Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) has developed a new high yielding and drought resistant rice variety, called AGRA, as part of its efforts to increase crop yields and boost production, according to local sources. "This new variety will help the farmers to increase their production because of its high yield," said a Municipal Development Officer at the Department of Agriculture. System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in Mali Oakland Institute, December 2016 Northern Mali’s Timbuktu region is one of the most food insecure regions in the Sahelian nation. Agriculture depends on the floodwaters of the Niger River and highly variable rainfall that averages less than 200 mm per year. Annual rice yields average less than one ton per hectare, and irrigated rice yields average four tons per hectare. Using the System of Rice Intensification (SRI), which requires wider spacing, transplants, and organic amendment such as manure or compost, the NGO Africare and local farmers have obtained yields as high as nine tons per hectare—more than twice the conventional irrigated rice in the area. Note d’analyse de la filière riz au Niger Nicolas Gergely, avec James Kantiah, mai 2014 La production. La production rizicole au Niger est estimée à 88 000 tonnes en 2013, dont 85% provient des aménagements hydro-agricoles (AHA). La superficie cultivée en riz sur les AHA atteint en année moyenne 7500 ha, sur environ 8 500 ha aménagés et rizicultivables, avec une intensité culturale très proche de 2. Les rendements sont actuellement de 5,4 tonnes/ha en hivernage et de plus de 7 tonnes en contre saison, ce qui constitue à la fois une nette amélioration par rapport aux rendements estimés au cours de la décennie précédente et une excellente performance par comparaison aux autres pays ouest-africains. Le « potentiel méconnu » de l’agroécologie africaine vanté en marge de la COP21 Jeune Afrique, 7 décembre 2015 Trente-trois études de cas constituées pendant trois ans par l'Oakland Institute auprès d'une population de deux millions de foyers ruraux d'Afrique subsaharienne vantent le "potentiel économique, social et de sécurité alimentaire" des techniques agroécologiques. Le programme sous-régional en gestion intégrée de la production et des déprédateurs de gestion, introduit par la FAO via des « champs écoles » au Ghana en 1996 puis étendu à plusieurs pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest. Dans les fermes sénégalaises passées au crible, il a induit une hausse des rendements (de 5,19 tonnes de riz par hectare à 6,48 tonnes), une baisse moyenne de 3,2 litres du recours aux pesticides et une économie de 60 dollars du coût d’exploitation par hectare.
