Intellectual Property at the Core of
Successful Innovative Businesses
Intellectual property has taken on an important role
in today’s business world. An in-depth knowledge of
the benefi ts and risks associated with intellectual
property is now an integral part of any innovative
business’ commercial strategy.
The Forum International de la Propriété Intellectuelle –
Québec (FORPIQ) is a biennial event. Its principal objective is
to provide participants, mostly from the business community,
with useful information relating to fi nancing, developing,
protecting and managing intellectual property assets, as well
as to off er judicious and practical solutions for the profi table
commercialisation of these assets.
The upcoming 2009 edition of FORPIQ proposes to examine
how successful innovative businesses manage the inherent
risks relating to the commercialisation of their respective
technologies and how they protect and use their intellectual
property assets. The speakers of FORPIQ are primarily from
the business community and combine a broad expertise
in the fi elds of strategic planning and management of
intellectual property assets. These experts, from Québec
and abroad, with the aid of concrete examples drawn
from their experiences, will deal with themes such as the
optimization of a competitive position, profi tability of one’s
investments, intellectual property litigation as a strategic
tool and available resources to face the sometimes high costs
associated with litigation.
Technology transfer in the context of local and foreign
outsourcing will also be dealt with during this conference.
FORPIQ is a non-for-profi t organisation created in association
with the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC),
the Canadian group of l’Association Internationale pour
Canadian group of the Fédération Internationale des Conseils
en Propriété Industrielle (FICPI), as well as the Licensing
Executives Society (LES).
