Activity 2: Instructions:. Read the short love story below. . Match the phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions in bold to their definitions on the next page.

Samantha has been going out with Tommy for sixteen years now. They met in high school and Tommy fell head over heels in love with her the first time he saw her, walking down the hallway, at St-Mary’s High School. The sight of Samantha made his heart race and his knees go weak. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

One day, while Samantha was talking to her friends, beside her locker, Tommy worked up the courage to ask her out on a date and she said yes without hesitating. Tommy decided to invite Samantha to dinner where they could chat and get to know each other better.

Samantha and Tommy instantly hit it off at the restaurant and spent most of the night talking about funny stories, laughing and making out. The next day, they were an item and almost inseparable. Both Tommy and Samantha enjoyed the same things. They loved dancing, working out and cooking. Family was also very important to them. They could not be a better match according to their zodiac signs. Even Samantha’s friends and Tommy’s friends were getting along quite well.

A few years went by and Samantha and Tommy decided to attend separate universities. Samantha decided to study law at McGill University and Tommy decided to study engineer at uOttawa. Although, both Tommy and Samantha promised themselves that nothing would get in the way of their relationship, they did not anticipate how demanding the workload at university would be and, at the end, could not sustain their relationship.

Tommy ended up cheating on Samantha, one night, at a keg party and Samantha found out about it the next day. Although, Tommy was quite sorry for what he had done, it was too late. Samantha felt like he had betrayed her and let her down so she decided to break up with him. Years have gone by and Tommy still regrets what he has done and continues to say that Samantha is the love of his life. He hopes that they will find their way back to one another one day.
