    Family reunication or third country national amily members joining thirdcountry nationals resident in the EU according to EU law : Directive 2003/86sets out the conditions or the admission o amily members o third countrynationals and applies in all Member States, except Denmark, Ireland and the UK.A recent judgment o the European Court o Justice (C-578/08 Chakroun) givesthe rst concrete guidance on how the directive must be applied.

    Family reunication or third country national amily members joining EUnationals who have exercised their ree movement rights within the EU : thisarea is ully governed by EU law in the orm o directive 2004/38 and regulation1612/68 which have been transposed into the national law o all Member States.Yet, according to the EU Commissions progress reports, the application o theDirective and Regulation is still ar rom satisactory in many Member States. Jurists and NGOs in the Member States have conrmed that EU nationalsare still encountering obstacles to amily reunication with their third countryamily members.

    Directives

    Tis conerence is mainly or practicing lawyers, and legal advisers who deal with immigration mattersrelated to amily reunication in the EU. It will also be o interest to academics who study the eld. Teconerence is designed to assist lawyers rom all EU Member States in understanding and resolving

    problems o their clients in this area. Tis conerence will provide practitioners with expert inormation,explanations and opportunities to discuss problems and issues:

    Te conerence will be held in two sessions, one in English and the other in French. Participants areasked to indicate whether they wish to participate in the English or French language session (seeattached programmes). It may be possible to switch between groups (provided seats are available)and the nal debate and discussion period will be held jointly in the presence o both groups.

    Te conerence is organized by the European Immigration Lawyers Network, a network o lawyers acrossthe EU who specialize in EU migration matters. It is co-sponsored by the Paris Bar and ADDE, a networko French lawyers specialized in immigration, asylum and nationality.
