• As a part of our curriculum, we were required to do a project on the subject of Export Marketing. We are grateful to the University as well as to Model College for providing us such an opportunity to present a project on such subject by which we could get an industrial exposure.

• Letter of CreditIt can be defined as an undertaking given bythe importer’s bank to make payment to theexporter within the terms and conditions ofthe Letter of Credit.

• Shipping BillIt is an important customs document. C & FAgent prepares it. It enables to obtaincustoms clearance. It is prepared in fivecopies.

• Bill of Lading It is an important document as it gives title ofgoods. On the basis of bill of Lading, theimporter can take possession of goods fromthe customs.

• Packing ListIt is a list of goods, which are ready fordelivery. This list is required for customclearance.

• Proforma InvoiceThe Proforma Invoice gives a clear idea to theimporter in respect of terms and conditions ofsale and the price of goods; that would bepurchased by the importer. The ProformaInvoice helps the importer to obtain a LC andin obtaining import license.

• Commercial invoiceIt is a basic export document. It contains all theinformation in which is required for thepreparation of all other documents

• Mate’s receipt It is issued by the mate (cargo officer) of theship acknowledging the receipt of goods onboard the ship. It states the number ofpackages and their condition at the time ofloading on the ship. It is required to obtain billof lading from the shipping company.

• Certificate of Origin It is an important document in export trade. Itis issued by concerned authorities such asEPC’s, Chambers of Commerce etc. It statesthe origin of goods.

• Form A.R.E. 1 It is used for excise clearance. ARE stands for“ Application for Removal of Exports”. Atpresent five copies of ARE 1 form is requiredfor excise clearance in respect of exports.

• Freight InvoiceIt is the document where in freightcharges are included. This document isrequired during custom clearance.

• Marine Insurance PolicyThis document is not actually required inthe formalities of export trade. This is justa receipt of Marine Insurance policyalthough it is not mandatory but strictlyrecommended.

• Bill of ExchangeThis is also a very regular commercialdocument. A Bill of Exchange is anunconditional promise to pay sum on the dateas mention in the bill to the drawer or his order
