DARIUS GARLAND and KEVIN PORTER JR. are both providing solid contributions in their first season. In 51 games (all starts), Garland is averaging 12.4 points (6th-among rookies), 2.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists (2nd among rookies), a .360 mark from deep (5th-among rookies) and a .866 clip from the foul line in 30.5 minutes per contest. Porter Jr. has played in 40 games (2 starts), averaging 9.4 points (11th among rookies), 3.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists (10th among rookies) and 0.90 steals (7th among rookies) in 22.3 minutes per night.

• THE ONLY NBA ROOKIE: DARIUS GARLAND is currently the ONLY NBA rookie this season with at least 600 points, 180 assists and 90 three-pointers.

• CONSISTENT FROM DISTANCE: DARIUS GARLAND has made at least one three-pointer in 44 games (MOST among rookies), including two triples on 32 occasions (MOST among rookies). From Dec. 28 to Jan. 14, Garland had 10 straight games with two or more three-pointers, becoming just the 4th player in Cavs history to reach that mark and the first Cavs rookie EVER to do so.

• 5+ DIMES: DARIUS GARLAND dished out 5+ assists in a career-high four consecutive games from Dec. 12-18, the longest streak by a Cavs rookie since April 2012 (Donald Sloan, 4 games).

• KP SINCE DECEMBER: Since Dec. 1, KEVIN PORTER JR. is averaging 12.0 points (.481 FG%), a .395 (32-81) clip from beyond the arc, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 23.8 minutes over 22 games. Before that stretch, he averaged 6.3 points (.387 FG%, .211 3FG%) and 3.0 rebounds in 20.4 minutes over 18 contests.

DEFENSIVE NUMBERS: Here’s a look at some of the Cavs defensive areas:

• UNDER 100 POINTS: The Cavs have held teams under 100 points on 7 occasions this season.

• LOWER THAN .450 FG%: The defense has limited opponents to under .450 shooting from the field 15 times so far.

• CLEAN PLAY: The Cavs currently commit the 2nd-lowest amount of fouls in the NBA at 18.3 per game.

• 10+ STEALS: The Cavs have recorded at least 10 steals on 6 occasions this season. From Nov. 8-14, Cleveland had notched 10 steals in 4 straight games, their longest stretch with double-digit steals since November 2012 (11/9/12-11/17/12, four games). Against the Miami Heat on Nov. 14, Cleveland swiped a season-high 14 steals.

• IT’S BEEN 4 YEARS: On Nov. 20, Cleveland had five players with at least two steals against the Heat (CEDI OSMAN-3, ALFONZO MCKINNIE-3, LARRY NANCE JR.-2, COLLIN SEXTON-2 and KEVIN PORTER JR.-2), the most Cavaliers with multiple steals in a single game in nearly four years (five players on December 29, 2015 at Denver – LeBron James, JR Smith, Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova). (Elias Sports Bureau)

• BACK-TO-BACK WIRE-TO-WIRE VICTORIES: Cleveland’s defense helped them pick up consecutive wire-to-wire road wins over the Washington Wizards (113-100 on Nov. 8) and New York Knicks (108-87 on Nov. 10). The last time the Cavs posted consecutive wire-to-wire victories was back in December 2008 (12/6/08-12/9/08). In the win at MSG, Cleveland’s defense held the Knicks to an opponent season-low .360 (31-86) shooting from the field.

SHARING THE SCORING LOAD: The Cavaliers have had at least six players score in double figures in a game on 15 occasions this season, including seven players with 10+ points twice (Nov. 8 at WAS and Jan. 5 at OKC).

CHARGE OFFENSE CRACKED BY RED CLAWS PORTLAND, ME – The Canton Charge (20-12) fell to the Maine Red Claws (22-8), 122-98, at the Portland Expo Building on Thursday night. Canton got off to a slow start offensively, missing their first 10 three-point attempts and hitting just 2-of-20 from long range in the first half while conversely struggling in the paint for just 12-of-26 as a team. The Charge ended the first half 30% shooting overall from the floor and scored a season-low for points I a half as they trailed the Red Claws 55-37. While the Canton offense began to heat up in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 72-58, the Red Claws responded by turning up the pressure and eventually closing out the period on an 18-6 run to take a commanding 93-66 advantage. The Charge would ultimately put up a 32-point fourth quarter to prevent their lowest scoring game of the season. The two teams will meet again to decide the 1-1 season series in Canton’s home finale on March 17th. The Charge were led by Malik Newman’s 20 points, four assists and two steals in 35 minutes. Dean Wade added 14 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench. Tyler Cook had 13 points and nine rebounds. The NBA G League’s leader in steals per game, J.P. Macura, had three tonight to go along with eight points. Sheldon Mac (14), Levi Randolph (12), and Sir’Dominic Pointer (11) rounded out the seven double digit scorers for Canton.
