GOVERNANCE

DEMOCRATISATION & RULE OF LAW

A modern society governed under rule of law principles

requires the separation of powers, strong legal and judicial

systems, accountability and transparency and the respect of

fundamental rights and freedoms.

PUBLIC SECTOR REFORM

Good governance entails sound public sector management

and competencies. Reforms might be addressed to include

changes in structures and processes with the objective of

making them more effective.

SUPPORT TO CIVIL SOCIETY

Civil society is a key element of a democratic society. Civil

Society Organisations (CSOs) are actors of decision-making

processes and can influence the shape of global public

policy.

Page 29: Présentation AETS 2016 Asia EN

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

GENDER EQUALITY & GENDER MAINSTREAMING

Gender equality is a common value and a fundamental

principle of the EU which is enshrined in the Treaty of the

European Union and its Charter of Fundamental Rights.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Social development is about putting people at the centre of

development. Reducing poverty is also about empowering

people in their surroundings by creating more inclusive and

accountable institutions and societies.

Sound development policies encompass all of the above

sectors and lie at the heart of international efforts to reduce

poverty within a context of sustainable development.

Increased multilateral cooperation within coordinated donor

frameworks.
