Foreword
Trained as an architect, I’m very interested in the sustainable and social development of our cities. I consider that we architects have to work together with other professionals and organisations in order to reach the best solutions terms of habitability, socialization, healthy environment and energy savings.
My goal is to offer an architecture which is sensible with its environment and its users; an architecture that deals with technology in a smart way, without waste of ressources, creating spaces that are easy to maintain and to keep in comfortable conditions, and built with sustainable materials and technologies.
I’m passionate about apparently simple solutions to complex problems, that kind of solutions that appear when you find smart answers to good questions. In addition, I think that good examples need to be evaluated and compared before being assumed as a model; that’s why I’m interested in taking advantage of today’s technologies possibilities to analyze our buildings’ and cities’ behaviour.

The installation is the third and last contest where I worked on for Atelier
Barda. The installation is located in a large-scale and meaning carrying landscape. The almost island piece of land holds a strong history that, as well as it’s landscape, defines the site. The proposed installation seeks to enhance both history and landscape, adding a signal function to this enhancement.

I did this project as a volunteer. The SODER organization needed to renovate its old offices of 300m2 inside an industrial building. After an identification of needs and due to budget constraints, I developed a three-phase project that allows all SODER depending organisations to work in the same space. There is also extra sublet space for special events and for co-working offices.
The project takes full advantage of existing spaces and facilites. Circulations and the main entrance are improved. In order to bring warmness to the concrete spaces wood is the chosen material for the renovation.

The project consists in modifying the original design of a 65 sqm flat. The new interior takes advantage of the 5m width of the living room to accommodate a new room. The new arrangement enables an entrance hall. The original lateral windows ensure a variety of entries of light that qualify the spaces. New pieces of white furniture redefine the limit between the kitchen and the living and dinning room. As the design process take place during builfing’s construction, design decisions are made on the fly.

The building takes advantage from the good price/climatic performance relationship of industrialized greenhouses to develop a project with a box in the box strategy. The first box is a 42sqm minimum and highly efficient housing unit. The second is a light, fine and very practicable skin that complements the main house with the goal of achieving maximum environmental benefit in the most cost-effective manner. The outside garden can feed a family for six months.

ETSAV 2012 takes advantage of the necessity of building a new student’s residence to rearrange all the Campus’s spaces. The existing Nadal building is refurbished to host the new master’s lectures room and a second conference hall. Access corridors are covered with greenhouse technologies to serve as exhibition space. Public oriented services actually located in the old building are moved on the ground floor of the new residence building to allow all citizens to use them. Finally, the basement of the existing research building is refurbished to serve as construction workshop. Three different types of cohabitation are proposed in the new student’s residence. The height of the private room is raised to 3,6 m. to allow students to appropriate their space with mezzanines.
In therm of construction, the whole new building is built in wood with green roofs except the covering of the inner patio, that uses industrialized metal greenhouse technologies optimized for a better thermal behaviour. The new building uses radiant floor and ceiling panels for heating and refreshing the different spaces. A mechanical heat exchanger ensures living units’s renovation of the air. The air is directly taken from the pre-conditioned intermediate space, endowed with a Canadian tubes system.

El primer pas is the name of the pavilion that represented the catalan government department of environment and housing in Construmat’s 2007 fair. The aim of the pavilion was to explain the concept of sustainability and the policies that the Generalitat de Catalunya should develop in the future. The catalan government decided to hire the PAuS collective to develop this pavilion.
PAuS proposed the two times one strategy. This strategy solved the contradiction of building a pavilion that would last for six days and then become waste, and that to make an exposition that is supposed to be an example of sustainability. So, two projects had to be developed at one. The first, financed by the catalan government, was the pavilion for the fair itself. The second project was to convert all the “waste” of it in a I+D platform for sustainable projects in the ETSAV.
To bring down to earth the proposal, a dry construction system was developed to assemble and disassemble the construction, minimizing the waste related to this actions and getting as final numbers 99,5% of recovered material.

The apartments are distributed in three different buildings which are constructed with a demountable steel structure and precast concrete load bearing floors. The ventilated facades are built with lightweight construction and a green roof is incorporated. The semi-buried basement car parks are naturally lit and ventilated.
The project is certified by the Swiss energy efficiency standard Minergie Basic. The project uses materials that are environmentally friendly, recycled or recyclable. A separation of gray and black water is provided. All areas of the project are 100% accessible to people with disabilities.

Business plan of Clima arquitectes.coopSant Cugat del Vallès, Spain, 2011
Description de l’entreprise
Description of the company
Clima arquitectes is a cooperative of professionals that offer services of architecture and energy efficiency, result of the combination of a study of architecture with social sensitivity and a sustainability consultancy applied to architecture. The company is, so, focused in two activities or main vectors:
Social vector
Clima arquitectes.coop, as well as looking for the architectural quality of the projects in which is involved, is concerned with the promotion of a fairer and more respectful society by means of encouraging new models of access to housing, and the introduction of participatory processes in territory, cities and building management.

This interest of innovation is also extended to the management of our cities and rural territories, looking for empowering participative and social cohesion designing mechanisms and processes.
Technical vector
The demand of sustainability is complex and requires trandisciplinarity. We are focused in the promotion of a less material and energy depending society, by means of the energy and material consumption diminishment and, since every design is a system, the closing of cycles of the projects in which we are involved.
Our aim is to improve building stock’s efficiency instead of increasing it.
• Activity 3: Certification of buildings energy.• Activity 4: Advice for housing energy consumption reduction, by means of changing inhabitants • habits of use and consumption.• Activity 5: Energetic refurbishment of existent buildings• Activity 6: Design and management of low energetic and material consumption architecture.
