Les industries ontariennes de la création sont florissantes. La SODIMO veille à ce que les industries de l’édition de livres et de revues, du cinéma et de la télévision, de la musique et des produits multimédias interactifs numériques continuent à prospérer. Ces industries exercent une influence considérable sur la santé des économies provinciale et nationale. These industries have a tremendous impact on the health of the provincial and national economies. In this love story and mystery set in the turbulent new world of

Toronto in the ’20s and ’30s, Michael Ondaatje effortlessly entwines

Michael Ondaatje was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Canada in

Against a vivid terrain of images, Timothy Findley continues his

exploration of the many diverse and destructive acts played out on

the personal battlegrounds on which we live our daily lives

Timothy Findley (1930-2002) was one of Canada’s most compelling

and celebrated writers, his books establishing his international

acclaim as a “master storyteller”. Over the years he received many

awards and honours. His works won numerous Canadian and

international literary awards and he was appointed an Officer of the

Order of Canada and honoured by the French Government, who

declared him a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

inspired a Hollywood film, Max, starring John Cusack.

“The Great War was the psychological turning point for modernism,”

argues Eksteins. “The urge to create and the urge to destroy had

In this now world-famous novel, four unlikely people come together

in a damaged Tuscan villa during the final moments of World War II:

a young Canadian nurse; an enigmatic thief whose life skills have

made him a war hero as well as a casualty; a Sikh soldier in the

British army; and the English patient, who lies badly burned in an

upstairs room. His adventures and turbulent love affair in the North

African desert before the war are gradually uncovered and become

the centre around which these people’s past and present lives

Jane Urquhart was born in Little Long Lac, Ontario, and grew up in

Toronto. Away was a co-winner of the Trillium Book Award, and was a

finalist for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. Urquhart is

the author of eight acclaimed novels, most recently Sanctuary Line.

Akenson captures the nature of a very controversial and engaging

man in this insightful biography of Irish politician, writer, historian

and academic, Conor Cruise O’Brien. Considered by some to be the

most important Irish non-fiction writer of the twentieth century, with

writings as widely scattered as they have been influential, whatever

one thinks of this man, one cannot dismiss his influence on Irish

history in the 1970s.

Donald Harman Akenson is a Professor of History, at Queen’s

University. The author of a dozen books of Irish history and five

novels, in 1993 he was awarded the Grawemeyer Award for his book

God’s Peoples: Covenant and Land in South Africa, Israel, and Ulster.

Chinatown, Vancouver in the late 1930s and 1940s provides the

setting for this poignant first novel, told through the vivid and intense

reminiscences of the three younger children of an immigrant family.

They each experience a very different childhood, depending on age

and sex, as they encounter the complexities of birth and death, love

and hate, kinship and otherness. Mingling with the realities of Canada

and the horror of war are the magic, ghosts, paper uncles and family

secrets of Poh-Poh, or Grandmother, who is the heart and pillar of the

family.

Novelist, memoirist, short-story writer, Wayson Choy was raised in

Vancouver’s Chinatown and has lived in Toronto since 1962. The

Jade Peony spent six months on the Globe and Mail bestseller list,

and in addition to co-winning the Trillium Book Award, also won the

Anne Michaels’s debut was an international literary sensation. Jakob

Beer, a young boy caught in the tempest of World War II, is rescued

from the mud in Poland by an unlikely saviour – the scientist Athos

Roussos, who takes him to Greece, and then Toronto. Years later,

while working as a translator, Jakob meets Ben, a young professor

who harbours his own legacies of the war and who becomes

fascinated with the older man and his writing. Fugitive Pieces vividly

evokes landscape and character, excavates memory and time,

and draws us into the lives of its characters with compassion and

recognition.

Anne Michaels lives in Toronto. In addition to the Trillium Book Award,

Fugitive Pieces was the winner of numerous awards, including the

Orange Prize and the Guardian Fiction Award, and was made into a

feature film. Her most recent novel is The Winter Vault.

Elles dénouèrent leurs ceintures et abandonnèrent leurs robes sur

le sol. Une odeur de femmes nues captura les hommes. Deux par

deux les filles continuaient leur danse, se renversant par derrière,

In fluid, sparkling cadences, Kevin Connolly’s poems let the mind’s

downtime have the stage - the desert sky transformed; Spring Break

as viewed by passing skipjacks; narratives of danger and dream

narrative; a meditation on the business end of a sea cucumber;

taxage que lui font subir deux garçons de sa classe, l’horaire de

travail de sa mère qui la prive de sa présence et de ses conseils,

l’attitude du père qui croit qu’ignorer les problèmes suffit à les faire

disparaître, et la perte de sa meilleure amie. Entre alors en scène le

personnage éponyme du roman : Poupeska, cette « vieille Carabosse »,

sévère et négative, qui n’est autre que la voix intérieure de Lénora…

Une voix harcelante qui l’accable de paroles méchantes et fait en

sorte qu’elle doute d’elle-même chaque fois que des situations

difficiles pointent à l’horizon…

Françoise Lepage, avant son décès subit en 2010, a recueilli

plusieurs contes du patrimoine franco-ontarien et les a regroupés

dans La fileuse de paille et autres contes. Professeure de littérature

jeunesse, elle a écrit plusieurs livres sur le sujet, dont une histoire de

la littérature pour la jeunesse en 2000 qui lui a valu quantité de prix.

Marguerite Andersen, titulaire d’un doctorat de l’Université de Montréal,

a enseigné la langue et la littérature françaises au Québec, en Ontario,

aux États-Unis, en France, en Allemagne, en Tunisie et en Éthiopie.

Auteure d’ouvrages critiques et de recensions, elle a publié une

quinzaine d’œuvres de fiction et de poésie, et a écrit et monté des

pièces de théâtre. Elle est depuis plus de dix ans l’éditrice de Virages,

une revue littéraire trimestrielle consacrée à la nouvelle.

Les écoles secondaires de la région forment une ligue de hockey. Guy

(Ti-Foin), Luc et Sab (une fille) sont refusés; les gars, jugés trop petits,

et la fille... parce que c’est une fille. Après efforts et astuces, Ti-Foin et

Sab mettent sur pied « Les Rebuts », équipe composée de joueurs

« rebutés » comme eux par les autres clubs. Ses membres sont plutôt

bizarres et excentriques... Sab, la gardienne de but à la volonté de fer,

et La Bol, piètre joueur, mais habile tacticien, sauront-ils vaincre les

« Bullies », équipe aux joueurs aussi costauds que brutaux?

Paul Prud’Homme a enseigné durant trente-six ans aux adolescents.

Il traite sans cesse, dans ses romans, de ces grands incompris.

Amateur de hockey depuis toujours, il présente un deuxième roman

basé sur ce thème qui le passionne. Il touche aussi à des fléaux qui

viennent souvent gâcher bien des rêves et des idéaux : alcoolisme,

pauvreté, rejets sociaux, handicaps. Toutefois, le message est

toujours optimiste et constructif, à l’exemple de toute la carrière

de l’auteur auprès des jeunes qu’il respecte et aime.

La SODIMO administre le Prix littéraire Trillium de la province de l’Ontario. Nous sommes fiers d’avoir l’occasion de mettre en valeur le talent littéraire et la diversité des auteurs ontariens. Une des caractéristiques les plus uniques du Prix littéraire Trillium est son ouverture aux ouvrages de tous types : livres de fiction et généraux, œuvres dramatiques, livres pour enfants et poésie.

Lors de la première édition du prix, en 1988, il n’existait qu’un seul prix, le Prix littéraire Trillium. Le Prix Trillium pour l’excellence littéraire en langue française a été inclus plus tard.

En 2003, un nouveau prix a vu le jour, le Prix de poésie Trillium, décerné à de nouveaux poètes et à des poètes émergents francophones et anglophones. Le premier, deuxième ou troisième ouvrage de poésie est admissible à ce prix. Par la suite, un autre prix a été ajouté, le Prix du livre d’enfant Trillium (langue française), qui est décerné tous les deux ans et alterne avec le Prix de poésie Trillium en langue française.

Lorsque nous examinons la liste de tous les lauréats passés, nous réalisons l’importance de ce legs et constatons que de nombreux auteurs à la renommée internationale résident en Ontario. Les nouveaux auteurs et les auteurs émergents partagent la vedette avec des auteurs reconnus. Le Prix Trillium fête son 25e anniversaire en proposant une liste d’œuvres littéraires à partager et à découvrir pendant de nombreuses années.

The OMDC manages the Province of Ontario’s Trillium Book Award. We are proud to have opportunity to showcase the literary talent and diversity of our Ontario authors. One of the unique characteristics about the original Trillium Book Award is that it is open to books in any genre: fiction, non-fiction, drama, children’s books and poetry.

When the Award was first given out, in 1988, there was one award – the Trillium Book Award. Later, the prize was expanded to include the Prix Trillium, for literary excellence in the French language.

In 2003, a new award was created – Trillium Book Award for Poetry, given out in both English and French language, for new and emerging poets. A first, second or third work by a poet is eligible. Subsequently, a further award was added, The Trillium Book Award for Children’s Literature in French language, which is given out in alternating years with the Trillium Book Award in Poetry in French language.

When we look back at the list of all our past winning authors, we see how many internationally acclaimed writers call Ontario home. New and emerging authors share the spotlight with seasoned writers. Trillium turns 25 with a list of literary works that we can share and explore for years to come.
