Une nouvelle édition de la Nollywood Week démarre !

Comme chaque année au printemps depuis 2013 déjà, nous donnons à voir au public parisien les facettes d’un pays lointain et méconnu qui, en à peine quelques décennies, s’est hissé au deuxième rang mondial des producteurs de films : le Nigeria.

Notre festival met en effet à l’honneur l’une des plus importantes « Success Stories » africaines: celle d’une industrie cinématographique qui a su s’imposer dans le paysage. Cette industrie si singulière qu’on surnomme Nollywood (n’oublions pas qu’il s’agit d’un surnom) est en mutation permanente. Elle s’ouvre comme l’illustre la présence de la chanteuse Angélique Kidjo à l’un des rôles principaux du très attendu film d’ouverture et en même temps elle renforce son ancrage local comme l’indique la proportion élevée de film joués en pidgin, alors même qu’il y a quelques années encore, c’est l’anglais qui aurait prévalu.

Nous espérons que vous prendrez autant de plaisir à regarder les films que nous en avons pris nous à les sélectionner. Quoi qu’il en soit, gardez à l’esprit que la NollywoodWeek c’est d’abord et avant tout un voyage. L’assurance de découvrir des pépites et de faire de très belles rencontres, le tout à un prix particulièrement abordable. Alors très beau voyage à toutes et à tous à travers la Nollywood Week !

A new edition of NollywoodWeek begins!

It was in 2013 when we decided to adorn the Parisian springs with glimpses from a distant and not so well known country that in the last decades has climbed the ranks to become the second largest producer of films in the world: Nigeria.

This festival echoes one of the greatest African Success Stories; that of a film industry which has grown since its birth despite all odds. This unique industry (nicknamed Nollywood) is constantly changing. It has become increasingly global as illustrated by singer Angelique Kidjo’s role in the highly anticipated opening night film, The CEO, while at the same time increasingly local as evidenced in the large use of Pidgin over English in many of the films.

Whatever the case may be, don’t forget that NollywoodWeek Film Festival is above all a journey. A journey that guaranties to be full of great discoveries and new encounters at an unbeatable price.
