Our year 13 have their leavers assembly where they get a final chance to address and entertain the school, and then it is year level liturgies and final instructions for NZQA exams on Thursday afternoon. Thursday evening (1 November) at 7pm is our Senior Prizegiving and parents are encouraged to attend and support their student as we celebrate academic success. Prefects for 2019 will also be announced this evening, and after prizegiving senior students are officially on study leave. Parents of senior students will be receiving reports next week. Please contact us urgently if your postal address has changed. Our prefect team this year, led by Trya Ah Yuk and Kasi Valu has been outstanding. They have clearly set a high benchmark for future years and displayed servant leadership consistently. Thank you Tyra and Kasi and your team. The countdown is on until our year 9 camp on 5th -7th November. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and I am very grateful to the numerous staff who have volunteered to go with the students, and to Mrs Rachel McCarten for her vision and drive to organise camp. It is going to be fantastic! We have only a few places left in year 7 and 9 for next year. If you are wanting to enrol a child for 2019 please contact the school urgently. Next week also marks the start of November and with it comes the feast of All Saints Day followed by All Souls day. November in the Catholic Church is dedicated to the souls in purgatory and our personal prayer remembers our whānau members who have gone before us. All Saints Day, on November 1 is a day set aside to honor church members believed to have gone to heaven. All Souls Day, November 2, was created to commemorate those who died baptized but without having confessed their sins, and thus they are believed to reside in purgatory. Roman Catholic doctrine teaches that intercessions (prayers) by earthly church members can cleanse these departed souls and prepare them for heaven. Please keep all our students in your prayers: those facing examinations, those starting the next chapter of their lives post school, those going to camp and especially those who are finding life stressful and challenging at present. Next week is a busy week of farewells for many students this year, and indeed for some families too as their year 13 student leaves us.

We have our Thanksgiving Mass on Tuesday (30 October) at 11.15am where we celebrate 2018 and the 5-7 year journey our Year 13 students have had at Marcellin. We would love whānau to join us for this celebration.

DANCE - Congratulations to Jaime’e Maoe, Victor Nofoa and Shamanda Time (Year 13) who all received full scholarships to attend the week long intensive workshop during the school holidays with The New Zealand Dance Company. This amazing opportunity to learn from some of New Zealand’s top professional dancers offered daily classes in contemporary dance, hip hop & fusion styles, and explored improvisation and choreography. After an exciting week of classes students, in collaboration between the Feisty Feet – Dance for Seniors program, presented a performance to the public at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on Saturday 13th October. This inter-generational dance project was created in response to the Museum’s exhibition Are we there yet? Women and Equality in Aotearoa and further explored the performers own experiences and perspectives of the women’s rights movement in Aotearoa.

Sports

College Sport Junior Tag Football Tournament 2018 - Marcellin College had two Teams taking part in a regional competition on Thursday 25 October out in Moire Park in Massey. We had a girls’ team and a boys’ team participating in a full on event where both teams played 5 games each under the sun. Both teams performed admirably and were great ambassadors to the school, playing with great spirit and giving it there all! There were some good wins and some tough losses from the teams, but a great experience for all. Big thanks to our senior Year 12 students, Bradley, Nita and Napoleon for coaching these teams over the last few weeks and getting them up to speed!
