The Translator’s Amanuensis
I want to advocate a view of the problem in which machines are gradually, almost imperceptibly, allowed machines are gradually, almost imperceptibly, allowed to take over certain functions in the overall translation process. First they will take over functions not essentially related to translation. Then, little by little, they will approach translation itself. The keynote will be modesty. At each stage, we will do only what we know we can do reliably. Little steps for little feet!

MT vs TA
Ressemblances Différences
TAS et MT se nourrissent de
traductions antérieures
MT permet des fuzzies, TAS doit
matcher exactement un segment pour
pouvoir le traduire
MT et TAS travaillent phrase-par-
phrase
MT retourne une phrase complète de
sa mémoire; TAS recombine des
morceaux de phrases glanés ici et là
(approche mix-and-match)
Lorsqu’ils utilisent les mêmes
données, TAS et MT se comportent de
façon très similaire
TAS produit toujours une traduction,
MT que si la similarité est supérieure
au seuil fixé
