Trip to Czech Republic - March 8-13, 2015

DIMANCHE 8 MARS 2015  : Grande arrivée sur Hranice

Nous (Juliette, Mathilde, Marcello et Frankie) avons effectué un agréable voyage dans deux avions de différentes tailles. Michaëla, coordinatrice du projet Erasmus+ en République tchèque, nous a accueillis à l'aéroport d'Ostrava, accompagnée de son mari, et du directeur de l'école.Après 40 minutes de trajet en voiture, nous sommes arrivés devant l'hôtel des enseignants. Les familles d'accueil nous attendaient avec impatience ! Après quelques présentations et photos de groupe, chacun est parti à la découverte d'un nouvel environnement, pour des activités variées.Temps radieux, sourire jusqu'aux oreilles, prise de connaissance agréable...Voici le résumé de cette 1ère journée!

We (Juliette, Matilda, Marcello and Frankie) did a nice trip in two planes of different sizes.Michaela, coordinator of the Erasmus + project in the Czech Republic , greeted us at the airport in Ostrava, accompanied by her husband, and the school principal .After 40 minutes drive, we arrived at the teachers'hotel.The host families were waiting impatiently! After a few presentations and group shots, everyone is out to discover a new environment, for various activities.Beautiful weather, smily faces, making pleasant knowledge ...Here is the summary of the first day!

LUNDI 9 MARS  : De grandes découvertesNous avons eu la joie de partir à pied (et non en métro !!!) sur le chemin de l'école, sous un SOLEIL radieux ! Quel plaisir que de découvrir une aussi belle école (verte !), si spacieuse, si moderne, si bien décorée et très accueillante. Et un spectacle nous attendait : des enfants de tout âge nous ont chanté un très beau chant tchèque, suivi d'une petite danse traditionnelle et d'une pièce de théâtre, que nous connaissons si bien ; Cendrillon! Puis les élèves tchèques nous ont offert un bon moment musical et rythmique, en faisant participer certains de nos élèves !Une fois nos badges reçus et le discours du directeur achevé, nous avons découvert avec émerveillement la pédagogie tchèque, au travers de deux leçons de mathématiques et d'anglais, extraordinaires !!!  La journée n'étant pas terminée, nous dûmes quitter avec tristesse les salles de classe pour reprendre quelques forces (goûter) et partir à la rencontre du maire, tous ensemble.Comment se déroule une cérémonie de mariage...? M. le Maire nous a fait une démonstration, avec l'aide de quelques enfants se prêtant au jeu... Bravo Marcello !

Après un déjeuner à la cantine, nous sommes partis à pied à la découverte d'une grotte à trois quarts d'heure de la ville.

Une belle promenade le long de la rivière Becva. Puis, en fin d'après-midi, chacun est retourné dans sa famille d'accueil.

We have had the joy of exploring on foot (not subway !!!) on the way to school, under a radiant SUN!What a pleasure to find such a beautiful school (green!), So spacious, so modern, so well decorated and very welcoming.And a sight awaited us:Children of all ages sang us a beautiful Czech song, followed by a small traditional dance and a play that we know so well; Cinderella!Then the Czech pupils gave us a good musical and rhythmic moment, involving some of our students!Once received our badges and the speech of director completed, we discovered with amazement the Czech pedagogy, through two lessons in mathematics and English, amazing !!!The day is not complete, sadly we had to leave the classroom to regain some strength (to taste), and go to meet the mayor, all together.How is a wedding ceremony ...?The Mayor gave us a demonstration, with the help of some children at play suitable Marcello ... Bravo!After lunch in the canteen, we went on foot to the discovery of a cave to three quarters of an hour of the city.A nice walk along the river Becva  Then, late in the afternoon, everyone returned to his family home.

MARDI 10 MARS  : 1, 2, 3... Let's go  !Nous avons fêté les 10 ans de Mathilde, avec toute la communauté Erasmus+ ! Chants, gâteaux et cadeaux étaient au rendez-vous pour commencer ce mardi ensoleillé... Mais le travail nous attendait pour faire l'atelier (workshop) proposé par l'école tchèque.Une professeure d'art nous a fait découvrir un artiste très connu : Maurits Escher, qui s'est amusé à créer tout au long de sa vie des illusions d'optique en utilisant des règles mathématiques. Nous nous sommes attelés à reproduire des formes géométriques pour créer une œuvre ensemble... A break please! Après une petite pause, la matinée ne pouvait se terminer sans une visite exceptionnelle de notre école  : quatre salles informatiques high-tech, une salle d'interprétariat, deux gymnases, quelques salles utilisées pour des jeux en garderie, et des salles de classe comme nous avons l'habitude d'en voir au primaire.L'après-midi, départ en bus, en direction d'Horka, à la découverte du Land Art et de l'artiste Frantisek Skala, artiste renommé, qui a travaillé autour des quatre éléments de la nature. Puis nous avons participé à un barbecue géant, à base de pâte en forme de serpent, le tout à déguster bien sûr avec une pointe de sucre ! Excellent moment qui nous a permis de reprendre de nouveau quelques forces pour aller découvrir la ville d'Olomouc, dont les façades sont magnifiques. Les journées d'hiver étant courtes mais intenses, nous avons du retrouver notre belle ville de Hranice pour déposer les enfants dans leur famille d'accueil et permettre aux enseignants de se retrouver tous ensemble !

We celebrated 10 years of Mathilde, with all the Erasmus + community!Songs, cakes and gifts were waiting for you to start this sunny Tuesday ...But the work was waiting for the workshop (workshop) proposed by the Czech school.An art teacher showed us a very famous artist Maurits Escher, who had fun creating throughout his life optical illusions using mathematical rules.We undertook to reproduce geometric shapes to create a work together ...A break please!After a little break, the morning could not end without an exceptional visit our school:four high-tech computer labs, an interpretation room, two gyms, a few rooms used for games in daycare and classrooms as we are used to seeing the primary.In the afternoon, departure by bus towards Horka, discovering Land Art and artist Frantisek Skala, renowned artist, who worked around the four elements of nature.Then we participated in a giant barbecue, snake-like dough, all to taste of course with a touch of sugar!Excellent time which allowed us to take back some strength to go explore the city of Olomouc, whose facades are gorgeous.Winter days are short but intense, we had to find our beautiful town of Hranice to drop the kids in the family home and allow teachers to meet all together!

MERCREDI 11 MARS  : Journée à Prague

10 : 00-10 : 15: crossing to Wentceslas Square, the output of the bus10: 15-12 : 30: Walk ==> Wenceslas Square, the neighborhood , the National Theatre, Ditches , Powder Tower ( just looking at something ...), Old Town, City Hall, Astronomical Clock , Charles Street to Charles Bridge12: 30-13: 15 : lunch near the bridge ( on the Old Town side)13: 15-14 : 00: crossing over the Charles Bridge and Kampa , Sova MillsFrantisek Kupka exhibition at Museum Kampa :This visit short but rewarding , showed us the pioneer of abstract art , one of the best known works is The Cathedral.

We have had the joy of walking around the beautiful streets of the city center, which are among the finest in the world .

Thursday 12th March : Party day in Hranice!!!

Only good times happen when we are together. A second interactive workshop lay ahead. There were beautiful cameras on each of the tables – how amazin!As an introduction we were then shown a few minutes of animated films that had been produced by the high school students . This gave us a taste of what laid ahead : the creation of a film made from photos taken of an animal in different positions in their natural environments. For our part we started by creating an animal and then drew a background that we coloured in with pastel crayons. Then, helped by a student we moved the animal into different positions and and took photographs of it in different positions.But the work did not stop there! We then moved into the IT departmentto put together our animated film on the computer programme ‘Windows Movie Maker’. It was an interesting discovery of this new technology – sounds, changing the speed of the film etc. Nevertheless we needed to be patient to be able to see the final results!After lunch the big moment had arrived! We were now going to start working on our Erasmus doll! The sewing, printing onto fabrics, learning new skills – how wonderful!And then finally Parise, our doll was dressed in a pretty patterned skirt and a tshirt with an Erasmus logo.A few minutes before our workshop on Parise there was a surprise – the much anticipated projection of our six animated films!But the party was not over yet as a fantastic ceremony was about to start : the presentation of certificates for those involved in the Erasmus project as well as presents for the Czech organisers – who we also spoiled!Then, there was a birthday celebration of two Greek twins and we ate a wonderful birthday cake!.No time to rest...it was time for the maths games...At 17h we met all together in front of the school – the host families, the school team, students from the school and the visiting students and teachers. We were presented with an fantastic Czech themed buffet.

JEUDI 12 MARS  : Jour de fête à Hranice !!!Que de beaux et grands moments passés tous ensemble !Un deuxième workshop interactif nous attendait. De beaux appareils photos étaient installés sur chacune des tables. Quelle classe ! S'ensuivent alors quelques minutes de films d'animation créés par des collégiens de l'école, en guise d'introduction. Ce qui nous a permis d'avoir un avant goût de ce qui nous attendait : la réalisation d'un film à partir de photos prises des différentes positions d'un animal (forme en tangram imaginée par les enfants) dans son environnement.  Pour cela, nous avons d'abord créé un animal puis dessiné le fond aux pastels. Ensuite, aidé d'un étudiant, nous avons mis en mouvement cet animal dans ce décor, en le photographiant différentes positions.  Mais le travail ne s'achevait pas là... Nous voilà partis en salle informatique pour monter notre film d'animation, sur le logiciel Windows Movie Maker. Une découverte dans le monde de la nouvelle technologie : générique, bruitages, réglage de la vitesse...Néanmoins, il fallait patienter encore un peu avant de voir le résultat ! Après le déjeuner, le moment tant attendu est arrivé ! Il fallait bien enrichir notre poupée... C'est ainsi que Parise s'est habillée d'une jolie jupe à motifs et d'un t-shirt au logo spécial Erasmus. Quelques minutes avant notre atelier Parise, place à la surprise :la diffusion tant attendue des 6 films d'animation ! Mais la fête n'était pas prête de s'achever puisqu'une grande cérémonie allait commencer : celle de la remise des certificats de participation au projet ainsi que des cadeaux aux organisateurs tchèques, qui nous ont gâtés eux-mêmes! Puis une superbe dégustation du gâteau d'anniversaire des jumeaux grecs ! Pas de place pour le repos... Les jeux mathématiques étaient au rendez-vous. Une fois de plus, le numérique s'est mêlé aux divisions et mots croisés ! A 17h, nous nous sommes retrouvés tous ensemble : familles d'accueil, équipe pédagogique, élèves et délégations étrangères. Un délicieux buffet aux couleurs de la République tchèque s'est ouvert devant nos yeux!

VENDREDI 13 MARS  : Dernière journée en République tchèque !!!Pour terminer notre séjour, l'équipe tchèque avait organisé une grande course dans l'école.

Par équipe, nous devions effectuer des jeux mathématiques, des activités manuelles et des activités de réflexion en un temps record !

La course terminée, nous avons appris notre temps : 106 minutes !Nous avons terminé 4ème !!! Les Polonais ont remporté le challenge. Bravo à eux !

Après le déjeuner, il était bientôt l'heure de partir. On nous a conduit en voiture à l'aéroport d'Ostrava.Ostrava-Prague, puis Prague-Paris ! L'aventure se terminait...

Merci à l'équipe tchèque de nous avoir permis de vivre une semaine aussi belle  !

FRIDAY 13th MARCH : Last day in teh Czech Republic!!!

To end our stay the Czech team had organised a big race within the school grounds. Each team had to do maths games, different activities and mental calculation tests within record times!!

The race over, we learnt that we had completed the race in 106 minutes in 4th place! The Polish team won! Congratulations to them!

After lunch it was time to leave.

We were driven to the airport in Ostrava.

We travelled from Ostrava to Prague and then Prague to Paris! Our adventures were coming to an end.
