Eté 2003: Retard significatif de BABAR/PEP-II par rapport à BELLE/KEKB Luminosité pic (10**33) 10.2 vs 6.5 Luminosité intégrée(fb-1) 160 vs 130 Lumintégrée par jour (pb-1) 500 vs 300
La qualité du détecteur BABAR ou l’ingénuité de ses physiciens ne peut pas rattaper un décalage important en statistique!

Pourquoi BABAR doit s’impliquer?
BABAR constitue inévitablement un frein à la montée de la luminosité de la machine qu’il faut limiter au maximum Protection du détecteur Qualité des données
BABAR engendre une perte d’efficacité opérationnelle pour la machine qu’il faut analyser et réduire SVT aborts, injection inhibits
Les physiciens de BABAR peuvent apporter une aide précieuse à PEP-II Analyse des données de la machine Instrumentation nouvelle construite par des physiciens de BABAR Nouveaux diagnostics fournis par BABAR Simulation des nouvelles configurations envisagées par PEP-II Simulations des effets importants pour PEP-II (Touschek, beam-beam)

• One rotation in 2007 should be able to keep MID modules installed in 2005 below 5 Mrad

Characterization of the injection aborts
Brian Petersen provided tools and plots allowing the statistical study of all injection aborts since January 2003. (Reminder: injection abort is an abort that occurred
while PEP state machine flag said injection on (ie no physical requirement of real injection taking place)
Comparison with stable beams aborts and injection inhibits (reminder: Injection is inhibited when a radiation
burst occurs within 1 ms of the injection clock)
