Dear Parents, It's that time of year again! The Florence Rhododendron Festival Parade will take place on May 20th. Students are covered for food from their $50 band fee was turned in at the beginning of the year. If you were unable to turn in this fee earlier in the year, we will still accept it! With this, we are able to provide a snack once the students arrive in Florence, water during the parade, and dinner at the park. If you were unable to turn this fee in at the beginning of the year, it is never too late! In preparing for our trip, we need parent volunteers! The biggest need is for chaperones - without the appropriate amount of supervision, we CANNOT take this trip! Below is the list of volunteer needs for the parade, all of which can be found on Better Impact: Bus Chaperones: We need 6-9 parents to ride the buses with students, and march with the students in the parade. Parents actually walking in the parade are expected to wear attire that matches the band. Dinner Set-Up: These parents will set up dinner in the park while students are at the sand dunes, and then help serve when they return. We will also need someone to pick up our Subway order! Park Chaperones: After the parade is over, the students go to Honeyman State Park to spend the afternoon frolicking on the dunes. We need parents to supervise the frolicking. Wagon Pullers: To ensure that no one gets dehydrated during the parade, we will need parents to be pulling water in wagons, alongside the marchers. These parents must be in uniform. Donations: We are in need of some coolers (just borrow), as well as some food items: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uBSj6Ridou1upfY3llZBJVRPf4yJfQ_eIgxsCtEeX28/edit?usp=sharing If there are parents going to Florence earlier in the weekend or simply just driving their own car on Sunday, we need your help to transport larger items! We count on people doing this each year, not only to transport items that don’t fit on the buses (sousaphones), but to save money on the buses themselves! Families choosing this travel option can meet up with us at Siuslaw Middle School, between 10:15 and 10:30 am, where we will be waiting to enter the parade. The disband area will be at the Florence Events Center (715 Quince Street); please plan to follow us to the park from there. Thank you for your support, Mandy Burton Director of Bands [email protected] www.HighlandParkBand.org
