David Lihard est né en 1974 à Montpellier. Après une vie professionnelle éloignée du monde de l’art (études de droit), il décide en 2007 de se vouer entièrement à des recherches plastiques. Ce retour à sa vocation première a été encouragé en 2008 par la subvention à la création d’atelier de la DRAC des Pays de Loire. L’artiste vit et travaille à Angers.
Les visions de l’enfance de l’artiste sont perturbantes: une réalité insouciante et un jeu pervers peuvent tout d’un coup se révéler être un jeu insouciant et une réalité perverse. Il fait osciller l’esprit du spectateur entre deux regards, celui de l’innocence et celui de la culpabilité. Et le plus troublant, c’est que ces deux regards paraissent, ici, à la fois légitimes et assumés.
Le style de ses peintures au sujet ambigu rappelle celui des livres d’enfants (Martine ou Caroline). Ses rebus afflictis forcent l’esprit à résoudre l’énigme pour atteindre le morbide tandis que les garnitures et les nappages décoratifs de ses gâteaux -si appétissants au premier abord- proposent d’assouvir un appétit d’une singulière nature. Ses couronnes mortuaires constituées de centaines de jeux d’enfants sont de la même nature : ils anéantissent méticuleusement les archétypes de l’enfance...
