Now that summer is here, the city is not the only thing that is heating up! We at Alliance Franaise are very pleased to offer you two energetic & eventful months ahead!

Come 11 May, Ahmedabad will witness a fusion of French and Indian Music when the French Band Piloot meets famous sitarist Smita Nagdev. The trans-improvised french music with the melodious and soothing sitar will surely be a treat to your ears and your mind in this summer heat.

Speaking of summer, one cant ignore the most exciting day of the year - the summer solistice 21 June! It is la Fte de la Musique!

For the first time in Ahmedabad, we are hav-ing an entire day long celebration which starts at four o clock in the morning and goes on till midnight! Be there and participate in all the events ligned up on the day - from early morn-ing meditation & yoga to gujarati sangeet, to salsa dancing & hula hooping, our Fte de la Musique is packed with health, energy & music!

Our librarians would like to inform you that the online library - Culturethque has been redesigned to be faster & more efficient. And they will be showing demos of Culturethque this May, so get in touch with them for your access to the treasure trove of French literature, music & movies.

Continuing the musical May, into June we have two theatre performances lined up for you: La douleur Marguerite Duras & La fort bourife, both of which are exceptional theatrical perormances in their own right.

The World Music Day also known as Fte de la Musique was a music festival, which began in France in 1982. French Minister of Culture Jack Lang conceived the idea in 1981. Antakshari is a game where the first singer has to sing two complete lines and then s/he may stop at the end of those or following lines. The last Hindi letter of the last word sung is then used by the next singer to sing another song, starting with that letter. Experience the fun of Antakshari while celebrating music!

ALLIANCE FRANAISE NETWORK IN INDIAFor 2016, the first network meeting of AFs in India & Nepal was held in Alliance Franaise de Trivandrum from April 6 to April 8. Alliance Franaise dAhmedabad was, certainely, a part of this meeting. For the first time AF Trivandrum had hosted the event. The meeting was held in the presence of Bertrand Commelin (newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Fondation Alliance Franaise), Philippe Janvier Kamiyama (Consul General of France in Pondichery) and Bertrand de Hartingh (Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy in India and Director of Institut Franais in Delhi). The meeting provided an ideal opportunity for Mr. Commelins first official visit to India.

PILOOT is a trio of Trans-Improvised which is composed of the flutist Florian Guibert, the double bassist Cyrille de Haes and the drummer Jean-Philippe De Gheest Influenced by complementary musical influences (jazz, rock, world and electronic music) the three accomplished musicians let go of all musical apprehensions while playing and surrender to the joys of spontaneous composition.

The commitment of a woman in resistance.

Duras Resistant is a play by Maud Andieux, inspired by La douleur & Mr X called Pierre Rabier of Marguerite Duras.

Marguerite Duras is one of Frances most distinguished writers. The author of many novels and screenplays, she is best known outside France for her filmscript Hiroshima Mon Amour and her novel The Lover which won the Prix Goncourt in 1984, and the Ritz Paris Hemingway Award in 1986.

Based on the book La fort de Racine by Mlusine ThiryRacine is not like other little boys, no one has noticed that a forest has grown inside his head. Fleeing from a hostile grand-mother and traumatic daily life, he runs into it to take refuge. It is in this encroaching forest, which changes with his emotions, that the little boy sets off on the most surprising adventures, gradually tracing a path that leads him back to himself.

The scenography and video projections take the audience on a poetic journey between virtual images and bodies in motion, immersing them into a world that is as moving as it is extraordinary.

Since it has only been a week since I started learning French, I am writing in English, but at the amazing pace and the fluidity with which we are being taught French I am sure in the next edition of Dcouvrir I will write in French. A seemingly difficult language, French is much easier to learn at Alliance and also so much fun! Being a crash course student, I have two professors and both of them are very supportive and nice. Above all, they teach really well.

Every year, Campus France in India, in association with Alliance Franaises in India organizes a Pre-Departure orientation session for students who will be pursuing their training in France the coming academic year along with a scholarship award ceremony inaugurated by the Ambassador of France to India. This half-day programme covers the various aspects relevant to those leaving for France, from the administrative procedures to be completed on their arrival in France to teaching methods used in French educational institutions, through inter-cultural aspects and other relevant matters such as the French Government Scholarship programmes. Amongst the three major events organized by the Campus France Network in India, each edition gathers representatives of the French institutional and entrepreneurial world based in the country.
