Council Message de ConseilHeritage Day 2016 - Distinctive Destinations: Experience Historic Places Thank You to All who participated in our 2016 Ottawa HeritageDay event at City Hall - especially with it taking place during ahistory making, record breaking snow fall and a fire alarmtriggered by flooding in the Heritage building! Despite those on theme challenges, the event was a greatsuccess with many engaging member exhibits and displays,including a special artefacts area presented by the City ofOttawa Museums and popular heritage hockey photo boothfrom the City of Ottawa Archives. We were pleased to havenew members participating, such as the Kitigan ZibiAnishinabeg Nation, Ottawa Inuit Children's Centre, Jane'sWalk, Doors of Ottawa and the new Carleton University library'Ottawa Resource Room'. And, to have a good representation from City Council togetherwith Mayor Watson presenting the Heritage Day proclamation

Also recognized was our Board member Hagit Hadaya,receiving the Gordon Cullingham Award presented by HeritageOttawa; and the Ottawa Regional Heritage Fair showcased 14year old Alexander Moss and his project which garnered himthe 2015 City of Ottawa Local History Award.

CHOO|COPO created a special slide show and quizshowcasing images of many of our member offerings related tothis years 'heritage tourism' theme. Quiz participants had achance to win one of 16 great door prizes generouslycontributed by our members and supporters. And all enjoyedpancakes and hot drinks served up by Vanier Museopark andour delightful entertainers Gabrielle Malis and Yvon Neveu. The event garned media coverage through CBC TV, MetrolandMedia and New Edinburgh News. Special thanks to our greatMC Daniel Richer, many costumed characters and team ofvolunteers for helping to make the day such a success!

Merci à tous ceux qui ont participé à notre événement de laFête du patrimoine d'Ottawa 2016, à l'hôtel de ville - enparticulier parce qu'il a eu lieu durant une chute de neige recordqui est entrée dans les annales historiques, et une alarmed'incendie déclenchée par des inondations dans le bâtimentpatrimonial! Malgré ces défis sur le thème, l'événement fut un grand succèsavec de nombreuses expositions et des présentationsengageantes de la part de nos membres. Il y avait égalementune zone d'objets spéciaux présentés par les musées de laVille d'Ottawa et un stand très populaire de photos du

Nous étions ravis d'avoir la participation de nouveauxmembres comme la Nation Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, OttawaInuit Children's Centre, la Promenade de Jane, Portes d'Ottawaet la nouvelle « Salle de ressources pour Ottawa » de labibliothèque de l'Université Carleton. Nous étions aussi heureux d'avoir une bonne représentation duConseil municipal avec le maire Watson qui a présenté laProclamation de la Fête du patrimoine à la Fondation duCimetière de Beechwood en présence de sa présidente émériteGrete Hale, de son président général (à la retraite) MauriceBaril et de son président et directeur général Roger Boult. Nous avons également reconnu notre membre du conseild'administration Hagit Hadaya, qui a reçu le Prix GordonCullingham présenté par Patrimoine Ottawa; et la Fêterégionale du patrimoine d'Ottawa a présenté Alexander Moss,âgé de 14 ans, et son projet qui lui a valu le Prix « histoirelocale » de la Ville d'Ottawa 2015. CHOO|COPO avait créé un diaporama spécial et un jeu-questionnaire qui représentaient en images les offrandes denos membres, liées au « tourisme patrimonial », le thème decette année. Les participants au Jeu-questionnaire ont eu lachance de gagner l'un des 16 grands prix généreusementofferts par nos membres et sympathisants. Ils ont aussi tousapprécié des crêpes et des boissons chaudes servies parMuséoparc Vanier, ainsi que nos merveilleux artistes, GabrielleMalis et Yvon Neveu. L'événement a bénéficié d'une couverture médiatique grâce à lachaine de télévision CBC/Radio-Canada, Metroland Media etNew Edinburgh News. Un grand merci à notre merveilleux MCDaniel Richer, aux nombreux personnages costumés et àl'équipe de bénévoles dont les efforts ont fait de cette journéeun tel succès!

A painted 'cheque' for$250,000 was 'withdrawn' from the old vault and presented -making for some great media opps with our ExecutiveDirectors, Ottawa 2017 Bureau reps including Mayor Watson,Councillors Fleury, Cloutier and Qaqish and Guy Laflamme, aswell as MPP Yasir Naqvi and CIBC Director, CommercialBanking, Marsha Woodgate. Program At-A-Glance- A total of $250,000 in program funding is available- Projects will be funded at a minimum of $5,000 and maximumof $25,000 each- Projects should be a new or enhanced activity for 2017- All project activities must take place within the City of Ottawaand occur between January 1 and December 31, 2017- Projects should be open and accessible to the general public- Application deadline: Thursday, March 24, 2016, 4 p.m. EST

This is a new, one time funding opportunity available to eligiblegroups in Ottawa's bilingual and culturally diverse arts, cultureand heritage sectors for projects in Ottawa during 2017celebrating Canada's sesquicentennial.
