    City CouncilThe City of Kelowna is governed by an elected council, a mayor and eight councillors, who are elected for four-year terms. Each member of council represents the city at large.

    Regular meetings are scheduled Monday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. During July and August these meetings are scheduled every two weeks. Regular meetings, as well as public hearings on development applications, are also held every second Tuesday at 6 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

    Council meetings and public hearings are broadcast live (audio only) on castanet.net. Monday afternoon meetings are re-broadcast on Cable 11 Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. Agendas and minutes of Council meetings are available on the City’s website kelowna.ca/council.

    Kelowna City Council also meets Monday mornings to discuss policy and governance issues, as well as in-camera business, as permitted under the Community Charter.

    e-Subscribe is a service provided free of charge by the City of Kelowna. Simply register your email address and select the topics you wish to be notified about. Registration is available from kelowna.ca.

    RemunerationMayor of Kelowna$90,586.74 annually (one-third is an allowance for expenses and thus non-taxable)

    Councillors$31,705.36 annually (one-third is an allowance for expenses and thus non-taxable).

    The decision to review remuneration is made by Council and an independent consultant is chosen to conduct the review. Remuneration was last reviewed in 2011.

    Council CommitteesAdvisory committees of Council provide recommendations on a wide range of programs, policies and services. Terms of reference are established by Council in accordance with the Community Charter. Committee meetings are open to the public.

    Council Advisory Committees include:

    Accessibility Advisory Committee Agricultural Advisory Committee Airport Advisory Committee Audit Committee Board of Variance Community Heritage Committee Parcel Tax Roll Review Panel

    Council may inquire into specific issues by creating a task force or holding a special meeting as a Committee of the Whole.
