Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara (ETC) was founded in 1979 and is celebrating its 33rd anniversary season. Under the leadership

of Executive Artistic Director Jonathan Fox, Ensemble is Santa Barbara’s longest-running, award-winning professional theatre company. Ensemble is undertaking renovations of the Victoria Hall Theater, creating a modern 300-seat performing arts venue that will serve as its new home, slated for a grand opening in fall 2013.

The final show of the ETC season is Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune by Terrence McNally (June 6th to 23rd, 2013).

Performances for The Year of Magical Thinking run Tues-Sat at 8pm and Sundays at 2 and 7pm, with a special Sat 4pm matinee performance on April 13. Tickets are $32 – $65. ��Performance artist Marina Abramovic has been redefining what art is for nearly 40 years. During a three-

month retrospective of her work at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2010, she gave the performance of her career. For seven and a half hours a day, she sat silently at a table without eating, drinking, or moving, as onlookers were invited to sit across from her. This film examines her career and follows the artist as she prepares herself for the undertaking with discipline, humor, and guile. (Matthew Akers, 2012, 105 min.)

��Portrait of Wally, Egon Schiele’s tender picture of his mistress, Walburga (“Wally”) Neuzil, is the pride of Vienna’s Leopold Museum. This “cinematic masterwork” (Huffington Post) traces its history – from Schiele’s affectionate gesture toward his young lover, to the theft of the painting from a Jewish art dealer fleeing Vienna for her life, to its surprise resurfacing at the Museum of Modern Art more than half a century later. (Andrew Shea, 2012, 90 min.)

��One of the world’s greatest living painters, Gerhard Richter has spent over half a century experimenting with a tremendous range of ideas and

techniques in his enigmatic artwork. This fly-on-the-wall documentary reveals his ingenious process as he mixes layer upon layer of bold colors, smears the paint with a giant squeegee and scrapes away at the canvas. It also includes rare archival footage and intimate conversations with Richter’s critics and collaborators. (Corinna Belz, 2011, 97 min.)

��Infinite Space traces the lifelong quest of visionary genius John Lautner to create “architecture that has no beginning and no end.” As a young man, Lautner broke from his mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright, and moved west to California to forge his own

style. Idolized by young modernists, criticized by academics, and beloved by his clients, he led a life in pursuit of unusual beauty. Renowned architectural filmmaker Murray Grigor explores Lautner’s dramatic spaces, from L.A.’s Chemosphere to the Elrod House in Palm Springs. (Murray Grigor, 2009, 90 min.)

The series is presented in collaboration with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission.

We pass through without ever being there.Before, we say, and after and now.

But isn’t that what childhood is all about,a pre-verbal idyll without time

Before the snake of language slithered in and hissedyou are dying, you will die, you have died.

ABOUT TIMEReal time, prime time, quality time, face time –aren’t we just talking about life but parsing itinto separate orders of experience> But experience of what: attention, existence, consciousness?

Isn’t time like the wind- everywhere an agent,but invisible, blowing leaves, knocking down houses,shoving the sea from one continent to the next?

Time itself is a destroyer. But it’s also a Creator.Sounds crazy, but that’s the real enigma of Time.

And where does time abide, where does it live:in cuckoo clocks (19th century time), or wristwatches(20th century time), or sundials (14th century time)?And if time moves one way, why not another?Can we travel back on it, as Speke and BurtonTraveled up the Nile to reach its ultimate source?

Time funnels through an hour glass, thoughit’s only sand squeezing through a pinched spot,and sand isn’t time, although it takes ages to make,the grist of innumerable ground rocks.
