Mike Pompeo to give Kim Jong-un “Rocket Man CDˮ during
nuclear talks
When Mike Pompeo meets Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang, he will
reportedly attempt to smooth a path towards denuclearisation
with a gift that playfully references a low point in relations
between the North Korean leader and Donald Trump: a CD of
Elton John’s Rocket Man. The US secretary of state will
present Kim with the CD along with a letter from Trump, who
memorably turned the song’s title into an epithet after the
North stepped up its ballistic missile tests last year. theguardian.com - article du 06/07/2018

L’entreprise américaine PepperBall a récemment annoncé

Même si Donald Trump a promis lundi 19 juin d’assurer

Will there be wine on Mars? Georgia prepares its grapes for
an interplanetary mission
Next time Matt Damon gets marooned on Mars, he may be
whiling away his days sipping Saperavi instead of farming
potatoes as he did so laboriously in the 2015 blockbuster, The
Martian. Georgia, an ancient wine-making redoubt, is putting
its best space science and viticulture minds together to develop
grapes fit for growing on Mars. eurasianet.org - article du 26/06/2018

State Govts. Warned of Malware-Laden CD Sent Via Snail
Mail from China
Here’s a timely reminder that email isn’t the only vector for
phishing attacks: Several U.S. state and local government
agencies have reported receiving strange letters via snail mail
that include malware-laden compact discs (CDs) apparently
sent from China, KrebsOnSecurity has learned. This particular
ruse, while crude and simplistic, preys on the curiosity of
recipients who may be enticed into popping the CD into a
computer. According to a non-public alert shared with state and
local government agencies by the Multi-State Information
Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), the scam arrives in a
Chinese postmarked envelope and includes a “confusingly
worded typed letter with occasional Chinese characters.” krebsonsecurity.com - article du 27/07/2018

Balaji
If you want to go to the Balaji temple like a regular tourist,
don’t. When I traveled there, I did not take a camera, stayed in
the shadows, and did not ask questions. Yet, although I did not
record the scenes of that particular evening in any way other
than with my own eyes, they remain deeply engraved in my
memory. It was perhaps one of the strongest experiences in my
life so far. thediplomat.com - article du 15/02/2018

M T : V Day is not un-Islamic
The Mufti of Tunisia has affirmed that celebrating Valentine’s
Day does not contradict Islamic principles as long as “it does
not transgress good morals”. Speaking in an interview with
newspaper Akher Khabar, Othman Battikh explained how
“celebrating love is not a sin,” and criticised those who say the
day is not Islamic because it stems from Christian traditions.
In celebrating it, “it does not mean that one embraces the
Christian religion,” he added. “Everything that brings people
together is something good and needed”. middleeastmonitor.com - article du 14/02/2018

Hummus in Danger: Why Climate Change Could Spell the End
for a Beloved Middle Eastern Dip
Hummus, the beloved Middle Eastern dip, is in danger.
Chickpeas are going the way of the cheetah. For rather
different reasons, both plant and cat are suffering from genetic
bottlenecks that reduce their ability to cope with change. And
in a warming world, change is happening. In contrast to the
cheetah, the domestic chickpea could still be saved by crossing
with wild breeds that still exist, to restore lost genetic diversity,
wrote Eric Bishop von Wettberg, a plant biologist at the
University of Vermont, and others in Nature on Tuesday. haaretz.com - article du 14/02/2018

Egypt zoo accused of painting donkey to look like a zebra
A zoo in Egypt has denied painting black stripes on a donkey
to make it look like a zebra after a photo of the animal
appeared online. Student Mahmoud Sarhan put the images on
Facebook after visiting Cairo's International Garden municipal
park. Aside from its small size and pointy ears, there were also
black smudges on its face. The pictures quickly went viral,
with experts weighing in on the species of the animal. A vet
contacted by local news group Extranews.tv said that a zebra's
snout is black, while its stripes are more consistent and parallel. www.bbc.co.uk - article du 26/07/2018

A one-year-old baby’s head got stuck in a darbuka, a
traditional drum, while he was playing it in Istanbul on Jan. 9.
The strange incident occurred in Istanbul’s Bağcılar district.
Bünyamin Yurtcan reportedly put his head inside the darbuka
while he had been playing with it. The baby started to cry when
he could not manage to get his head out. After Yurtcan’s
parents attempted to remove the drum and failed, fire crews
freed him by cutting the darbuka open. He was taken to the
hospital for treatment. No details were given on how baby
Yurtcan, who could not even walk, managed to have his head
stuck in the drum. hurriyetdailynews.com - article du 10/01/2018

Miss Iraq is a false prophet of peace and coexistence
Sarah Idan, Miss Iraq 2017, is the newest voice in the chorus of
advocates calling for coexistence between Israel and Palestine.
Speaking before international and Israeli officials at the
American Jewish Global Forum in Jerusalem last week, the 28-
year-old social media influencer spoke of the urgency to “seek
a new method that does not emphasise… differences and
disagreements”. Her budding relationship with Israeli
counterpart Adar Gandelsman broke global headlines in
November last year after a selfie featuring the two beauty
pageant contestants went viral, prompting both outrage and

Saudi Arabia denies pirating World Cup broadcast
Saudi Arabia denied accusations it was behind a television
service that pirated the broadcast of World Cup games for
which Qatar-based beIN Sports network holds the regional
rights. Saud Al Qahtani, a senior adviser to Crown Prince
Mohammed bin Salman, said such claims were “baseless” and
“unfounded”. Football’s governing body Fifa said that
television channel BeoutQ illegally broadcast the opening
games of the World Cup. thenational.ae - article du 23/06/2018
Haram no more: Valentine's Day deemed a 'positive social
event' by senior Saudi cleric
Hors-série été 2018 4
A prominent Saudi cleric on Wednesday endorsed Valentine's
Day, long forbidden in the ultra-conservative kingdom, calling
it a "positive social event" that is not linked to religion. The
comment from Ahmed Qassim al-Ghamdi, former chief of the
religious police in Mecca, comes as 32-year-old Crown Prince
Mohammed bin Salman pursues a far-reaching liberalisation
drive that has upended years of conservative tradition. "It is a
positive social event and congratulating people for it is not
against sharia [law]," Ghamdi told Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya
television. middleeasteye.net - article du 15/02/2018
Saudi Arabia to criminalise smelling bad in a mosque
Saudi Arabia's Shura Council, which has limited powers and is
fully appointed, is proposing 45 new anti-social "offences" that
could see people fined up to $800 for "displaying underwear or
stripping naked" in public. The kingdom's version of the
British ASBO lists several offences "against public decency",
such as smelling foul in mosques, as well as more serious
infractions, such as "racist acts", and provides punishments that
may include jail time of up to five months. alaraby.co.uk - article du 29/01/2018
