Nous vous souhaitons la bienvenue à la vente de deux jours de cette année qui est désignée comme étant un des plus importants événements à survenir en Amérique du Nord. L’offre est très diverse puisqu’elle consiste de taureaux, de femelles donneuses, de paires vache/veau, de taures gestantes et ouvertes, de gestations d’embryons et de produits génétiques congelés; et la qualité est constante, que vous recherchiez des Simmental Full Fleck, Fullblood ou pur-sang.

Bar 5 Stock Farms est reconnu dans le monde entier comme un pionnier en matière de programme Simmental qui offre toujours ce qu’il y a de mieux. Les consignations de cette année (ainsi que les bovins en partenariat avec leurs amis brésiliens et américains) sont de grande qualité et offrent souvent une variation sur la génétique des principales généalogies nord-américaines. Les consignataires ontariens, Dwayann et Gibbons, offrent toujours un solide groupe de Fleckvieh et cette année ne fait pas exception. Tryon présente à votre intention un groupe profond de taures gestantes provenant des Maritimes qui sont issues d’une génétique ayant fait ses preuves. L’équipe du Québec offrira de nouveau ses sujets haut de gamme; je crois que leurs programmes produisent certains des meilleurs Simmental au pays et ils en font la preuve d’une année à l’autre.

La vente de dispersion de Prospect Hill Simmentals suscite des émotions partagées. J’aimerais tout d’abord souhaiter à Andrew et à sa famille un franc succès dans leurs futures activités puisqu’ils manqueront sûrement à cette excellente race. Ils ont été depuis 26 ans un pilier dans le secteur Simmental et ils ont bâti un

programme qui a connu d’énormes succès, particulièrement ces dernières années. Andrew ainsi que John ont mis sur pied avec beaucoup de diligence un programme issu de familles de vaches qui sont à la fois facilement négociables et productives, combinées aux meilleurs taureaux d’étable disponibles. Leur approche visant à obtenir la meilleure génétique de l’industrie a certainement été remarquée et après avoir observé les animaux, on constate que leur offre est tout à fait impressionnante. Des occasions telles que la vente de dispersion PHS ne se présentent pas souvent, alors que le troupeau est dispersé quand il a atteint le sommet de son développement. Je vous encourage à en profi ter et à récolter les fruits des efforts qu’ils ont réalisés pour bâtir cet excellent groupe.

La vente Bar 5 Extravaganza s’annonce comme étant une autre excellente fi n de semaine qui débutera vendredi avec la vente de produits génétiques congelés. The Bar 5 Extravaganza has consistently been recognized as one of the must attend events for Simmental enthusiasts over many years. We welcome you to this year’s 2-day sale, as it will be highlighted as one of the feature events to happen in the North America. The offering is very diverse as it will offer bulls, donor females, cow/calf pairs, bred heifers, opens, embryo pregnancies and frozen genetics; yet it is consistent in quality whether it is Full Fleck, Fullblood or purebred that you seek.

Bar 5 Stock Farms is recognized world wide as a pioneer Simmental program that always offers their very best. This year’s consignments (along with partnership cattle from their Brazilian & USA friends) are very deep in quality and often offer a twist on genetics to the mainstream North American pedigrees. Ontario consignors, Dwayann and Gibbons always offer strong group of Fleckviehs and this year is no exception. Tryon has a deep set of bred heifers coming from the Maritimes for your appraisal and they branch back to proven genetics. The Quebec crew will once again offer their top end; I feel that their programs are some of the best Simmentals in the country as they are proving that year in and year out.

The Prospect Hill Simmentals Dispersal sure comes with mixed emotions. Firstly, I would like to extend Andrew and family our best wishes in their future endeavors, as they will surely be missed from this great breed. They have been a mainstay for 26 years in the Simmental sector and have built a program that has seen huge successes, especially in recent years. Andrew along with John have been very diligent in assembling a program

branching back to cow families that are both marketable and productive combined with the best herd sires available. Their approach to obtain the very best genetics in the industry has certainly been noticed and after touring through the cattle, the offering is simply impressive. Opportunities such as the PHS Dispersal don’t come by often where a program is being dispersed at its very peak. I encourage you to take advantage and reap the rewards on the efforts that they have put forward to build this great group.

The Bar 5 Extravaganza is shaping up to be another great weekend that will start on Friday’s Frozen Genetics Sale. Saturdays Sale of all the live cattle will be deep in quality yet again and offers something for everyone. Grey Bruce Airport Shuttle (www.greybruceairbus.com) is a shuttle service that operates from the Toronto airport to Markdale and back. Their schedule can be found on their website to arrange transportation to Markdale. We will need to be notifi ed in advance to pick you up at the depot. From there you can either arrange a car pool with others or we can arrange for you to get to your hotel.

CSA PERCENTILE GRAPHThe percentile graph does not show anything that is not already published on the website, it just shows the percentiles (where the animal fi ts into the CSA population) in a visual way. In this example, the EPD from the animal are shown on the top line, the next line shows accuracy or how much information was used in calculating the EPD, the third line shows the percentile rank or where the animal fi ts. 50 is right at breed average. Blue lines on the graph to the left of the 50% show cattle that are below breed average for the trait and the green lines to the right show cattle that are above breed average for the trait. In this example the sire is in the top 15% for CE. In other words, 85% of the Simmental in Canada are harder calving and 15% are easier calving. He is in the 55th percentile for carcass weight so 55% of the Simmental produce more carcass weight and 45% produce lighter carcasses. The trait is shown to the left of the graph and the percentile rank is shown to the right.IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO NOTE: the graph and percentiles do not show whether an animal is good or bad, only where they fi t in the population. For example, this sire had good CE and powerful growth, but very poor maternal characteristics. This is not good or bad, but simply mean that he may be a better fi t to produce feeder cattle than replacement heifers. Depending on what the customer needs/wants will determine what type of cattle they need. For example a producer may want a sire in the top 10% CE for use on heifers and growth below average, but may want well aboveaverage growth for use on cows and accept lower CE.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard or Debit payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. ALL CHEQUES SHALL BE MADE PAYABLE TO BAR 5 STOCK FARMS. No sale will be considered valid until and unless payment made out to BAR 5 STOCK FARMS is received and cleared. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bar 5 Stock Farms reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter.

BID: Every animal consigned to the sale will be sold by auction to highest bidder.

DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved if no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. BULLS: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows know to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will be suitable for artifi cial insemination.

FEMALES: Cows represented as being “pregnancy tested, safe in calf” have been examined and declared by a licensed veterinarian and will be accompanied by a veterinarian’s certifi cate to the effect. They are considered breeders without further guarantee. Cows with calves at side shall be considered breeders also without further guarantee; cows and heifers represented at “bred” are not guaranteed safe in calf but they are open heifers selling as individual lots are guaranteed to be breeders. No guarantee shall apply to sucking calves. In the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder, after having been bred regularly to a bull known to be a breeder and after having been treated by a licensed veterinarian, the matter must be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months of sale date. For heifers under twelve (12) months of age and purchased as a single lots and who fail to conceive to the services of a bull known to be a breeder, the matter must be reported in writing to the seller before the heifer reaches eighteen (18) months of age. The seller shall have six (6) additional months in which to prove any such female a breeder and may use any registered bull of the breed available to him. Any female returned will be at the purchaser’s risk. No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver live calves nor that she will carry calves full term not that the calf carried will not be mummifi ed. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time.

EXCEPTION OF GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal is subjected to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

SETTLEMENT: TRANSPORTATIONS CHARGES ON ANIMALS RETURNED TO THE SELLER ARE FOR ACCOUNT OF THE PURCHASER. No incidental expenses such as feed, A.I. signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement, F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual purchase price paid F.O.B. selling point. In no event shall the seller by responsible for more than the purchase price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator.

HEALTH: All animals will have passed the required tests as determined by Agriculture Canada at sale location. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province, state or country.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Owners, Sale Management, nor Staff, assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Welcome to the Prospect Hill Simmental Dispersal

After 26 years of owning Simmental cattle, this sales greeting is one of the hardest to put to paper. We have had cattle since I was sixteen, and even though I don’t look that old, it has been a long time. Over the summers, I worked on the farm and during the university years, the cattle and the farm took my summers and days that were free. I have always seen cattle in my barn yard and on the other side of fence from my kitchen window.

Prospect Hill Simmentals purchased our fi rst Simmentals in 1988 when dad (Norbert) visited Bar 5 in Brandon, Manitoba. Over the years that passed and numerous sales later, we grew to have an operation near Innisfail, Alberta and in Ontario at our home farm. After a few years, dad simplifi ed the operation and brought all the animals east to our Ontario location. When Dad passed in 2003, we decided to continue on with the cattle. We followed dad’s direction, purchasing what we felt were the breed changers from across Canada.

Eleven years have passed and things have changed in our lives. I have gotten married to Lisa. Our family grew with Owen and Allie. We thank all our fellow breeders for the support that you gave us when Allie passed. Mom has retired, as she should, and my brother is less involved with our main family business. I have concluded that it is now time to simplify my life with the dispersal of the herd. After 26 years in the breed, this is a diffi cult decision.

Now the time has come for our cattle to be in your yard - working for you - just as they did for us. We are offering our best livestock. The majority will be from our Full Fleck program, which has been in existence from the beginning – that includes donor cows, cows with heifer and bull calves at side, Fleck bred heifers, and our Fleck Herd sires. We are also offering a few genetics from our new purebred program. There are also some purebred embryos planted in registered heifers.

I would like to thank Ron & Carla Nolan and the Bar 5 crew for letting us be a part of the Extravaganza Sale again this year. Our fi rst purchase was at Bar 5, so it seems fi tting that our dispersal is here too.
