Dear Parents and LCHS Drill Team Hopeful,
This is a new endeavor for both you and your daughter. We feel it is
extremely important to share with you some basic information about the
tryout process for the LCHS Sweethearts. As a part of the team, your
daughter will perform at football and basketball games, pep rallies,
competitions, Spring Show and other special events. In addition to these
performances, the team will also participate in a lot of fundraising and
community service projects. The practice schedule is rigorous and
demanding. It’s not easy, but it is worth it.
The 2018-2019 tryouts for becoming a member of the LCHS drill
team will be a learning experience for your daughter. We will take the girls
through every step of the tryout process in order to prepare them to be
judged by a certified panel of judges. Please remember that all judge’s
scores will be final.
Tryouts for the Sweethearts will be Thursday, April 26th starting at
4:00pm ending at 5:00pm. Tryouts will be held at Lakeview Centennial
High School. The clinic for the girls will be April 23rd – April 25th, from
2:45-4:45pm in Lakeview in the small and big gym. The results will be
posted on the GISD website. The new team will meet that night, April 26th
at 6:30pm at Lakeview. Please be prepared to attend if you make the team.
Please read all information carefully in the packet before signing the
contracts. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at
jnbourqu@garlandisd.net. I look forward to meeting you and your
daughter and working with your daughter during the upcoming tryouts and
year!
Sincerely,

You are now on a Varsity Drill Team
Your Director calls you an athlete and an artist
Talking distracts your teammates & wastes valuable time
You do not “deserve” to do anything. YOU work for it!
You are your own responsibility
Gossip hurts everyone on the team
Lying is ugly
Your Director thinks you are beautiful and that you
want to be a Sweetheart! You should too!!
1. Be on time (10 minutes before the time on the Calendar)
2. Smile . . . a lot . . . even if it is hard
3. Come prepared to do what is asked of you.
4. Know your yard line, spot in formation, and review your choreography on
your own to stay sharp.
5. Wear the same outfit as everyone else, hair up, no jewelry at all. No
exceptions!
6. PARTICIPATE IN FUNDRAISERS!!!!!
7. Take care of your body.
8. Work hard . . . all the time!
9. Say yes ma’am at all times!
10. Leave issues at the door… focus on practice during practice!
11. BE POSTITIVE all the time
Whining and complaining . . . we are all hot, tired, and sore . . . Get over it
Laziness: Everyone needs to work hard all the time! It is a waste of your time
and everyone else’s if you are not giving 110% during practice.
Missing practice: If you miss a practice you do not perform!!!
Disagreeing with an officer or Director
Bad attitudes
Team Fitting: May 22nd at 3:00pm will be the team fitting for all Sweethearts. The total payment will be required for Team
Leader (Cash, Money Order or Credit Card) Payment will range anywhere from $250.00-$400.00.

August 2nd – August 4th will be at the Renaissance Hotel in Richardson. We will stay the night of August 2nd
and the August 3rd and showoffs will be August 4th. Camp is a time for the girls not only to get to know one
another, but a time to develop skills needed throughout the year. During this time, the team will learn football
routines, and stand routines. Payment for the hotel camp will cost approximately $375.00 and is due by July
26th to the Sweetheart Booster Club Treasurer in cash or money order. Scholarships are available from ADTS.
Football Season: Fall is football season and the beginning of our year! The Sweethearts will perform at all football games, away
and home. Members will try out for each football routine. All members are expected to attend all games
with the team. If the games are out of district and we have to travel, we will stay at LCHS and ride a bus to and
from the game. If the games are in district then we will just meet at the GISD football field at a specified time.
If you miss any practice you will NOT perform.
Contest: Contest is an exciting time. The girls learn four routines for contest and try out for each one. These routines are
learned in the middle of football season and they will try out in the middle of December. Contest requires extra
practices. If you miss any practice you will NOT perform.
Basketball Season: The Sweethearts will perform at select basketball games throughout the season. Sweethearts are required to
attend the games chosen. We will not travel to out of town regular season basketball games. We will travel to
playoff games. If you miss any practice you will NOT perform.
Christmas Show: The Sweethearts perform a Christmas Show in December. It’s an amazing show and the girls have a fabulous
time performing! Each girl collects items to auction off to help raise money for the Paula Bradley Senior
Scholarship.
Spring Show: Spring Show is another amazing time for the Sweethearts and is held in the LCHS Auditorium. The girls will
participate in a number of routines together and with specialty groups within the team. It will be their
opportunity to show all they have learned throughout the year. As well as sell ads for our program. Many
fundraisers will be held to cover lights, programs, choreography, and costumes.

Being a part of a drill team is an honor and a privilege. It is also a yearlong commitment and very time
consuming. It’s no secret that drill team is expensive. A lot of money and hard work goes into it whether it’s
by the parent or the Sweetheart. Drill team is emotionally and physically challenging and it demands a good
work ethic and discipline. If this is not something you are willing to give 100% to, please don’t waste your
time or money.
There are a lot of expenses in May and June that must be paid by the Sweetheart Booster Club as soon as
fittings are over. Camp is in August and field season accessories must be ordered immediately. It is
imperative that everyone pays their initial fee on May 22nd at fittings in order for our line camp to be a
success. We know that finances can be tight and will offer fundraisers to help cover some of the cost, but it is
ultimately up to you to be able to pay the expenses. Please communicate with me if there are any special
circumstances. If your balance is not paid in full by the first day of school, your daughter may not be allowed
to perform until the payment is made.
We participate in many fundraisers throughout the year to help cover the cost of things we need. It is very
important that you participate in these fundraisers. The more we fundraise the less that has to be paid
personally.
There are a few socials that may require bringing a gift or snack, football season first game, homecoming,
senior night, big sis little sis, etc. We will also ask parents to volunteer at events. The more parents are
involved the more the girls feel supported. Please make sure you are ready to volunteer.
We hope both parents and girls enjoy their time as members of the Yankee Doodle Sweethearts. We want
this year, and every year, to be a success! It takes everyone to make it possible.
Here are a few examples of fund raiser’s you will be participating in.
Car Wash: $35
