The flanges are ideal forextreme fluctuations of
temperature.
This is themost common type of
high pressure high temperaturepipe flange.

SocketWeld FlangeSocketWeld Flange Socket welding flanges work well
for smaller sizes and higherpressure temperature conditions.
They are similar to slip-on
flanges, butmust specify the
schedule of the pipe. They create a smooth borewith
the properwelding and grinding.

Threaded FlangeThreaded Flange
Nowelding is required. Good for small pipe sizes.
The flanges are suitable to be used in
applications wherewelding is
hazard
ous.
They can be used in extremely high
pressure applications, particularly at
or near atmospheric temperature.
They are economical and time saving
devices

Lap Joint FlangeLap Joint Flange
Recommended in applications thatrequire frequent dismantling of the
flanges and pipe.
Usedwith amatching stub-end insert.
Can ro
tate to
allow
fo
r an easyalignment of bolt holes.
Not recommended in extreme or high-
pressure temperature applications.

They are used to blank off the
ends of pipe.
They are also used to blank off
th
e ends of valves and pressurevessel opening.

Flange Facing FinishesFlange Facing Finishes Determined by the standard used andmeasured as an
Arithmetical Average Roughness Height (AARH). An example
would be ANSI B16.5 which specifies face finisheswithin a
range 125AARH - 500AARH (3.2 Ra to 12.5 Ra).
ColdWater -Has amirror like finish.Madewith awide tool at a
high speedwhich gives a finished surfacemuch like a ground
surface. When a surface has this type of finish it is normally
usedmetal tometal, notwith a gasket. Seldom used in the oil,
chemical or related industries. Concentric Serrated - A 90 inclined angle tool is used tomake
the grove. Itmakes a grove 1/64 deep and 1/32 apart in a
concentric circle.
Smooth - This can bemadewith several different types of tool
shapes. No toolmarkingswill appear to the naked eye on the
surface. The roughness of the finish is from 125-250 microinch.
Spiral Serrated - This is similar to a stock finish but the
difference between them is theway the grove ismade. A 90
inclined angle tool is used tomake the grove. Itmakes a grove
1/64 deep and the feed is 1/32.
Stock - The surface is created by a continuous spiral groove. The
roughness of the finish is from 125 to 500microinches and is cut
with a toolwith an approximately 0.06 inches or larger radius.
