A la demande du MinistEre de la CoopQration (Service des Etudes et des Questions Internationales), l'office de la Recherche Scientifique Outre-Mer (O.R.S.T.O.M.) a entrepris l'Qta- blissement de perspectives de population pour 23 pays d'Afrique et de l'0cQan Indien. Ces perspectives sont destinkes d'une part B mettre B jour celles qui ont pu etre Qlabor6es pr6c6demmenty d'autre part 3 servir de base B des etudes sur les effets socio-6conomiques provoqu6s par 1'6volution d6mogra- phique (urbanisation, scolarisation, emploi. . .
disponibles.

Ce programme a commenc6 en Mai I979 par le rassemblement des donnQes de base

- du Bureau of the Census dans "World population I977 - Recent Demographic - Estimates for the Countries "dernières estimations" on entend celles retenues dans l'annuaire le plus r6cent
and Regions of the world - US Department of commerce - October I978
D'autres documents suivront dans les mois 21 venir et traiteront notamment des points suivants : - analyse factorielle des correspondances sur les pyramides et les rapports de masculinit6 - Qtablissement des perspectives
Ces documents seront ensuite amendQs et r6unis dans un document final B paraitre en 1980. Tous commentaires seront les bienvenus au stade actuel du travail, la correspondance devant 8tre envoyée B :
