Agilent Signal Studio is a suite of flexible, easy-to-use, PC-based signal creation software
that will cut the time you spend on signal simulation. Signal Studio provides an Agilent
validated and performance optimized reference signal to better characterize, evaluate, and
fine-tune your designs under parametric and functional test conditions.
Our broad set of Signal Studio software enables the generation of a wide range of
application-specific test signals, at baseband, RF, and microwave frequencies using the
Agilent MXG, ESG, PSG vector signal generators, and the PXB baseband generator and
channel emulator. Whether working on a single radio format or integrating multiple voice,
data, and video formats into your wireless devices, Signal Studio delivers a solution to
validate and help make your third-party interoperability possible.
Signal Studio complements the general-purpose capabilities of the MXG, ESG, PSG, and
PXB and offers a cost effective means of tailoring these vector signal generators to your
application-specific design, development, and production test needs for modern radio
transceivers and the components that comprise them. And, with a demonstrated first-to-
market track record, Agilent’s Signal Studio continues to help you stay at the forefront of
product development as wireless systems continue to evolve.

Signal Studio software provides an appli-
cation-specific user-interface that enables
you to intuitively create standard-based
and custom test signals. It offers two
levels of capability to meet your specific
requirements:
• BASIC capabilities that enable you
to create partially coded, statistically
correct signals for stimulus/response
measurements
◦ Component level parametric test –
e.g. amplifiers, modulators, filters,
etc.
◦ Tx/Rx RF sub-system performance
verification - e.g. Tx/Rx RF front end
• ADVANCED capabilities to create fully
channel coded signals for receiver BER/
FER/BLER/PER analysis
◦ Baseband subsystem coding verifica-
tion – e.g. ASICs, DSPs, etc.
◦ Rx performance verification and
functional evaluation - e.g. Rx RF/BB
integration, system level test
The Signal Studio user interface simplifies
signal creation with familiar tree-style
navigation of the signal structure and an
efficient graphical interface to set up signal
parameters. Calibrated signal impairments
are easily added to evaluate receiver
tolerance to dirty transmitter and channel
effects. To simplify setup, well-located
configuration hints are optionally displayed
next to the signal parameter of interest and
signals are graphically displayed to verify
setup prior to generation.

Connecting to the MXG, ESG, and PSG
vector signal generators over GPIB or LAN
is facilitated with the hardware connection
wizard; signal generator control is conve-
niently provided directly from the Signal
Studio user-interface. For programmatic
automation, an application programming
interface that exposes all the signal creation
and generation parameters of the software
is available with most Signal Studio products.
Alternatively, the waveforms created by
Signal Studio can be downloaded and
stored locally on the MXG, ESG, and PSG
signal generators and played back from
the front panel or programmatically played
back using SCPI commands.

For detailed information on each Signal
Studio product, install the software and
refer to the comprehensive set of online
documentation and embedded HELP
accessible directly from the Signal Studio
user interface or access it on the web at

Modern detection, positioning, tracking and navigation systems need advanced signal creation tools to simulate
realistic operating environments for receiver verification, such as antenna scan pulse patterns and GPS signals with
moving scenarios. The racks of test equipment previously required to develop and manufacture radar and global navigation
satellite systems can now be cost effectively replaced by commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) instruments and Signal Studio.

1. Each Signal Studio software license enables signal generation on a specific signal generator (i.e. model number and serial number) at any one time. The Product summary table lists the right-to-use licenses available for each Signal Studio software product.
2. Upon license expiration, the instrument stops generating signals created by the specific Signal Studio software product. To continue generating signals on the instru-ment, a new right-to-use license must be purchased. Time-based licenses cannot be upgraded to enable additional capability after initial purchase.
3. Only available on N5182A MXG, N5162A MXG ATE, or E4438C ESG vector signal generators; up to 9 Waveform 5-packs (MXG/ESG Options 221-229); up to 10 Waveform 50-packs (MXG/ESG Options 250-259)
