“MOVING FORWARD AS AN OUTBOUND PARISH” Parish Meeting – January 12th, 2019 1:30 pm

In keeping with Pope Francis’ encouragement to become an ‘outward bound church’, Archbishop Paul-André Durocher is asking every parish to continue the synodal consultation process, begun in November, 2018, by exploring this theme. ALL parishioners of St. Mark’s are urged to gather on Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm to explore how we as a parish can institute Pope Francis’ mission to become an ‘outbound parish’ in Aylmer. We need input from EVERYONE—all ages and all backgrounds, new parishioners and longtime parishioners. The first session in November, 2018 was met with a lot of enthusiasm because it was very interactive and this second session will be very interactive as well. To find out more about this theme of ‘outbound church’ please watch Paul-André’s video at: https://youtu.be/WXgMiStxRqU or contact the members of the Synodal team: Fr. John, Margie Voisin, Michelle Jones and Barry Engelhardt. Looking forward to seeing all of you then! A warm welcome to new parishioners! Welcome to those who want to make their faith-home here with us. You may be new to Aylmer, or you may have been away for a while. Be assured that we would love to have you among us! We would appreciate it if you introduced yourself to one of our hospitality ministers, or to Father John. It would also help if you could take the time to fill out a registration form, which you can get from a hospitality minister. The next time you are with us, you can drop off the registration form in the collection basket; give it to one of the hospitality ministers or to Fr. John. Welcome!!

Rite of Introduction for First Communion candidates -January 19th at the

9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses First Communion candidates will celebrate a milestone in their preparation for First Communion at the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses on Sunday, January 19th. The children will be called by name before our parish community and receive a cross for them to wear as a reminder that they are followers of Jesus and a part of our Christian family. It is our hope that this celebration gives us all occasion to share their journey of faith. Parishioners are invited to keep these children and their families in their prayers over the coming months. Please help us make this a welcoming experience for these children and their families – a welcoming smile, an offer of help with finding the hymns we are singing, as this can go a long way in making sure that they know in a concrete way that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ! Baptism Preparation – First Session of the New Year is about to begin! The preparation for Baptism includes sessions on two consecutive Tuesday evenings. The first session begins on January 14, and the second session will follow on January 21 with the Baptisms to be celebrated on January 25 or January 26. You can register on-line from our website at www.stmarksaylmer.ca (under Sacraments, then baptism) or by contacting the parish office at (819) 684-6926. So please share this information with friends and family members who might want to join us in these sessions.

Liturgy of the Word for children during the 9 am and 11:00 am Masses One of the ways we help children in our parish to become active participants in the liturgy of the Word is to celebrate it with them in the Children's Liturgy room. In that space, we do the same thing that the adults are doing – we read the readings together, reflect together on the readings, profess our faith, and raise up in prayer the needs of our world. We then come back to the church for the Eucharistic prayer. All children between 5 and 12 are welcome. On-line option for the weekly collection In a time when many of us use our plastic to pay for everything from our daily coffee to our weekly groceries and gas, it's often hard to remember to bring cash to drop in the collection basket. Not intentionally, of course, it’s just that many of us are not used to carrying cash anymore. Would you like to never have to worry about having cash on hand to drop into the collection basket? We have the perfect solution that’s a win/win for you and the parish: This service is being offered by the Archdiocese of Gatineau, which is absorbing all processing fees and, therefore, 100% of your donation is forwarded to our Parish. The service allows you to make donations and Mass intentions; select a one-time donation or set up a monthly donation. Payment options include cheque, credit card or automated withdrawals from your bank account. See the on-line giving symbol on our parish web site (stmarkaylmer.ca) and follow the simple instructions, complete the required fields and submit your request. You will receive confirmation of your transaction and you will have peace of mind knowing that your gifts contribute to support and maintain the services offered by your parish. And since you no longer require the parish envelopes, please let the parish office know as this will reduce time, effort and cost for the printing and preparation of the envelopes. Envelopes for the collection - 2020 Collection Envelopes for 2020 are available in the church. Please be sure to use the current year, as each year your envelope number may change. Thank you!!

It takes many hands to prepare for Christmas – Thank-you! Many thanks to everyone who contributed to

making our Christmas Celebration so special. Thank you for sharing your time & talents with our community!

A great deal of generosity was demonstrated by parishioners in the lead-up to Christmas as well! Many people participated in the Guignolée to collect food

and funds for St. Vincent de Paul; the Giving Tree brought in a great number of articles which were distributed at our Celebration of Love dinner. And many people brought their talents together to put on a beautiful dinner for people in

our community who might not otherwise have had a Christmas dinner on December 21st. On behalf of all those who benefited from this generosity,

thank-you!
