INT. COFFEE SHOP - DAY

CHEVY PETERSON, silver-haired and upbeat, settles in at atable with his coffee and a laptop. As he types:

CHEVY V.O.Memoirs of a Grandpa.

He nods at the sentence, proud.

CHEVYThats a good start.

He reaches for his coffee and fumbles it across thelaptop, spilling coffee everywhere.

CHEVY (CONTD)

INT. RV - DAY

CHYRON: One week ago.

Chevy drives a luxury RV on a scenic road. He looks overat his beautiful wife of 30 years, BEVERLY, the sun behindher - backlit like an angel.

CHEVY V.O.I like to think my life startedwhen I met Beverly. We weresixteen when our stars collided...

EXT. FOOTBALL FIELD - 1964

Grainy film of a high school football player sprinting forthe endzone.

ANNOUNCERPeterson is open! Ball is high!

The player looks into the air as he runs, then drifts offthe field and SMASHES INTO A CHEERLEADER!

ANNOUNCER (CONTD)Ohhh.

LATER:

The cheerleader is being carted off the field by medics.She gives the crowd a thumbs-up and they cheer.

CHEVY V.O.I fell in love that night. I thinkBev mightve, too, if her brainhadnt been so badly bruised.

A SERIES OF PHOTOS ARE PLACED INTO A BOX:

- Chevy and Beverly as newlyweds.

CHEVY V.O.We got married and had twodaughters.

- Chevy and Beverly holding a baby, looking thrilled.

CHEVY V.O. (CONTD)One on purpose, one from a JacksonBrowne concert.

- Chevy and Beverly holding another baby, lookingoverwhelmed.

CHEVY V.O. (CONTD)Then I starting working six days aweek, and Bev had to go it alone.

- Beverly by herself with two little girls, one cryingand the other trying to punch her.

A lid is placed onto the box and we PULL BACK to seecurrent-aged CHEVY and BEVERLY standing outside a STORAGEUNIT loaded with boxes, the glow of freedom on theirfaces.

CHEVY V.O. (CONTD)But finally I retired, and Bev hadan amazing idea. Find each otheragain, by losing everything else.

EXT. RV LOT - SOON AFTER

Chevy and Beverly stare up at a luxury RV with an RVDEALER.

BEVERLY(to RV Dealer)

The house, the furniture... We gotrid of it all. Chev and I arejust going to travel and be free.No ties to any place or anyone.

RV DEALERSo, no grandkids?

CHEVYOh, no, we have three. Taylor,Hope and um--

BEVERLYElliot.

CHEVYRight. I was pausing for effect.Because hes the best one.

BEVERLYWe love them allso much. Thishas a wine cooler?

RV DEALERIt has everything. The NewmarDutch Star is a complete luxurycoach. You're not just buying alifestyle. You're buying class.

CHEVYCan they airbrush our faces on it?

RV DEALERAbsolutely.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

CLASSIC ROCK BLASTS as the RV cruises down the freeway, amassive portrait of Chevy and Beverly airbrushed on theside.

CHEVY V.O.And it worked.

Music continues over:

- Chevy and Beverly sit outside the RV, watching thesunset.

- Chevy toasts a glass of champagne with Beverly as hedrives the RV along PCH.

- Chevy takes a DUI test next to the pulled-over RV.

EXT. JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK - NIGHT

Chevy and Beverly cuddle under a blanket, looking up atthe stars.

CHEVY V.O.It was like we were sixteen again,and the world seemed right.

Beverlys CELLPHONE RINGS. She looks over at it,surprised.

CHEVY V.O. (CONTD)...Until the world took our oldestdaughter.

SLAM TO BLACK.

BACK UP ON:

INT. RV - (BACK TO PRESENT)

Chevy looks at Beverly as before, the sun behind her.

CHEVY V.O.That was six months ago, and everyday without Sarah has been difficult.

But with time, you remember the sunstill rises. Life goes on. Just notin the way it did before.

They approach the entrance to a gated community.

BEVERLYOh, this is it!

CHEVYAnybody else excited?

They look to the back of the RV, where their GRANDKIDSsit. TAYLOR (14), nerdy-handsome, making a coin vanishand reappear in his fingers. HOPE (12), beautiful andsmart and a little sullen. ELLIOT (4), ridiculously cute.

HOPEI liked living in Chicago.

BEVERLYWell... Calabasas is the Chicagoof the west coast!

CHEVY

Its also Spanish for pumpkin.

ELLIOTWere going to live in a pumpkin?!

TAYLORI can live anywhere. After all,comfort... is just a state of mind.

He holds out his hand dramatically. A wet cotton ballsits in it.

TAYLOR (CONTD)That was supposed to light on fire.

HOPEIt didnt.

Chevy stops at the gates and punches a code into a call

box. The gates swing open, revealing an upscaleneighborhood. Chevy drives through slowly, soaking itup.

CHEVYHere we go, guys. Just take itin. New house, new neighborhood.A fresh--

SKREAKKK! The RV jerks to a stop. The gates have closedon the middle of it, wedging it in the entrance.

CHEVY (CONTD)

Dammit. Gotta--

He jams on the gas, smiling tightly.

BEVERLYMaybe reverse?

CHEVYNo, no. Then the gate wins.

He revs harder, a little manic. Everybody else squirms.

CHEVY (CONTD)(yelling over engine)

Fresh start!

KERANG!! The RV lurches free! Theyre cruising smoothlyagain.

CHEVY (CONTD)See? This is going to be great!

Beverly nods and waves cheerfully at the neighbors, whohave stopped walking their dogs and working in theirgardens. They just stare at the passing RV in wide-eyed

shock...

OUTSIDE: We see the RV is dragging the gate behind it,leaving a trail of sparks in its wake, as we SMASH TO:

ACT ONE

EXT. DRIVEWAY - DAY

Chevy, Beverly and the kids help MOVERS carry the last oftheir boxes into their new house, a lovely two-story

traditional. Beverly nuzzles up to Chevy, taking it in.

BEVERLYWe can do this, right? Yourenever too old to raise kids.

Chevy looks at her for a beat, smiling.

CHEVYWhat? Thats my bad ear.

A mover heads over, removing his gloves.

MOVEROkay, thats all of it.

BEVERLYWonderful. Thank you guys somuch. Heres a little extra--

She opens her wallet, but theres only a playing card.She takes it out, bewildered. Taylor passes by--

TAYLORSorry. That was for a trick I wasgoing to do later.

BEVERLYWheres all my cash?

TAYLORGrandpas water bottle.

Chevy, taking a sip of water, sees the cash floatinginside and does a spit take.

TAYLOR (CONTD)Its called street magic.

CHEVYThats what it tasted like.

MAN (O.S.)You must be the new neighbors!

They look to see ANDY and DEBBIE COKER, 40s, chargingover from the neighboring house. Andy has his handextended even though hes still twenty yards away.

DEBBIEDebbie and Andy Coker!

ANDYThe Cokers!

They arrive and he vigorously shakes their hands.

BEVERLYNice to meet you. Beverly,Chevy... Our grandson Taylor--

Taylor nods hello as he crosses by with a box.

DEBBIEOh, about the same age as our Dawn!

She motions to a HOT 15 YEAR-OLD GIRL washing a car intheir driveway. Taylor trips over his feet and almostgoes down, but recovers and scurries towards the house.

Andy leans closer to them, dropping the volume:

ANDYThe, um, realtor gave us a headsup on the situation... You know,so there wouldnt be any awkward,I mean-- obviously so, so...terrible. I cant even--

(quietly)I think when we die--

DEBBIEAndy.

ANDYWelcome to Park Estates!

DEBBIEYoure going to love it here!

CHEVYWe already do.

BEVERLY

Seems like heaven.

Andy puts a hand on her shoulder.

ANDYAnd thats where she is, now.

DEBBIEOh my god.

INT. LIVING ROOM - LATER

Chevy, carrying a box; passes by Taylor, whos watching

Dawn out the window. Chevy follows his look and nods.

CHEVYYoull be going to the same schoolas her. Just gotta make yourmove.

TAYLORYeah. I just need the righttrick.

CHEVY(winces)

But being single is nice, too.More time with your friends.

TAYLORMaybe an illusion. Interlockingrings.

CHEVYThen again, who needs friends?

INT. KITCHEN - SAME TIME

Beverly looks around the sprawling, empty kitchen. Shetakes a deep breath and looks skyward.

BEVERLYIm not going to lie, Sarah, thisis a little scary. But I promisewere going to do our best.

Chevy enters with the box.

CHEVYWhere do you want the Crock Pot?

BEVERLYIn 1982.

CHEVYWe knew this would be an adjustment--

Elliot passes by, wearing a plastic Target bag for pants,and puts his wadded up jeans on the counter.

He crosses off.

BEVERLYWas he wearing a Target bag?

CHEVYA big adjustment, but look at thebright side: We get to correct allthe mistakes we made the first timewe raised kids! Its like we got amulligan!

WOMAN (O.S.)(calling out)

Mom? Dad?

They turn to see MOLLY, 26, enter the front door.

CHEVYHey, Mulligan!

(realizing)Mollygan. Molly. MollyMulligan, remember when I used tocall you that?

MOLLYNo.

CHEVYWell, I meant to, Mully. Molly.

BEVERLYSo good to see you, sweetie.

Theyhug Molly, who squirms at the affection. Herboyfriend AMIR, 25, enters with a polite wave.

AMIRHello, Mr. and Mrs. Peterson.

CHEVYAmir! No med classes today?

MOLLYHes skipping them. Because hedoesnt have much drive. He alsosmokes pot. Probably hard for youguys to hear that.

BEVERLYNo! Not at all. Were just happyyouve found someone.

AMIRI dont make her happy.

CHEVYWell, thats on Molly.

BEVERLYYes. She has some walls... butbehindthose walls, is...

CHEVYMolly.

Molly sighs and hands them a small elephant-headed statue.

MOLLYHere, we brought you this ugly thing.

AMIRLord Ganesha. Hindus believe herids the home of evil spirits.

MOLLYWe had it at our apartment, but itwas driving me crazy.

BEVERLYHow bout that?

She sets it on a shelf.

BEVERLY (CONTD)Well put it here by the basement.Thats where we keep all our evil.

We see Elliot slowly turn to look at the basement door.

MOLLYAre you sure you guys are readyfor this? I mean, raising kids atyour age, when you just want totake naps and eat hard candy...

BEVERLYWere not a hundred.

CHEVYDo you haveany hard candy?

BEVERLYYour Dad and I are in the prime ofour life. Were still travelling,playing tennis with the Feldmans--

(quietly)Making love...

MOLLYMOM?!!

BEVERLYIm just saying...we can handleit. And the kids are adjustingwell. Theyre having funwith us!

INT. RV - MORNING

Chevy bops along to Coltrane as he drives Hope in the RV.She just stares at him, bewildered.

CHEVY(over music)

I cant believe your brotherwanted to take the bus!

HOPEHe thought that Dawn girl would beon it.

(then)Is this a song, or is this guypracticing?

CHEVYYou know what Taylor needs? Atree house. Girls love those.

HOPEYou know hes not a Peanutscharacter, right?

CHEVYIm new at this. I was always on

the road when your mom and Mollywere growing up.

HOPESelling toilets, right?

CHEVYNot just toilets. Auto-flushtoilets.

HOPEThose things scared me when I waslittle. Always flushed when I wason them.

CHEVYBecause you werent sitting deep

enough. Thats not a design flaw,thats an ass-placement flaw.

She grabs her bookbag as he pulls up to the school.

HOPERight here is fine. I can--

CHEVYNo, no, I can get you closer.

She cringes as he pulls into the sea of SUVS and mini-vans circling the drop-off. The RV hisses to a stop.

CHEVY (CONTD)Okay, go make some friends!

Hope steps out to see every kid in the schoolyard isstaring at the girl in the giant RV. Shes mortified.

EXT. TENNIS COURT - SAME TIME

Elliot sits on a bench, watching Beverly wait for a serve.Across the net is BENNY and MARTHA FELDMAN, 60s.

BENNYWe need Chevy. Its no fun ifMartha and I just dominate.

He bounces a ball to hit it, but whiffs. He tries againand whiffs.

BENNY (CONTD)F**king thing is flat.

He tries to smack it over the fence, but it falls shortand bounces back. He kicks it, losing his cool.

BEVERLYHes probably just tied up intraffic. Its fine.

She hits a ball to them. As they volley:

MARTHAOf course! Things are going to bedifferent, now. We get that.

BEVERLYWhat do you mean? Nothing isdifferent. Were still retired.Well still be driving down thecoast and watching sunsets fromthe RV.

BENNYWhen?

BEVERLYI dont have a calendarin frontof me, but well make it work.You can raise kids while enjoyingthe good life. You just have tomake them part of the fun!

She hits the ball and it SMACKS INTO ELLIOT, knockinghim off the bench.

EXT. BACK YARD - CHEVY AND BEVERLYS HOUSE - SAME TIME

Chevy is on a ladder, nailing boards to an oak tree witha nail gun. Andy Coker watches from below.

ANDYA tree house, huh? Nice. We hadto chop down most of our trees.

CHEVYPine beetles?

ANDYNope, toilet-paper. Little tip,when the girl scouts come to yourdoor selling cookies? BUY SOME.

Chevy holds a board against the tree with his pelvis whilehe fires the nail gun-- POP! He freezes.

CHEVYHey, Andy? Do you know where thehospital is?

ANDYSure, why?

CHEVYI think I just nailed my nutsackto the tree.

EXT. PARKING LOT - LATER

Beverly walks away from the club with Elliot, who slurpsa smoothie.

BEVERLYFeeling better?

Elliot nods as Beverlys cellphone rings. She answersit.

BEVERLY (CONTD)Chevy, where are you?

(beat)What do you mean, the ER?

ELLIOTDoes this have strawberries in it?

BEVERLY

(to Elliot)What? Probably. Why?

ELLIOTI cant eat strawberries.

BEVERLYYou said you wanted the berryblast!

ELLIOTI thought it would be avocados.

BEVERLYAvocados arent berries!

Hives start forming on his face.

ELLIOTHere we go!

BEVERLYAgghhh!!

(into phone)Ill meet you there!

She picks Elliot up and runs.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - EVENING

Beverly, looking distraught, sits with Chevy and Elliotin an examination room. Chevy holds an ice pack on his

crotch, while a DOCTOR checks out Elliot, who is back tonormal.

DOCTORHe looks fine, now. Not the firstkid to be sent here by a smoothie.

BEVERLYHe thought avocados were berries.

DOCTORAvocados are berries.

ELLIOTBoom.

DOCTORJust keep a close watch on hisallergies. Anaphylaxis can beserious. Even life-threatening.

He gives her a stern look and crosses out. Beverly slumpson the edge of the bed, eyes welling up with tears.

BEVERLYMolly was right. Were too oldfor this! We have no cluehow toraise these kids!

ELLIOTI think you guys are crushing it.How do I get this mailbox open?

They see hes trying to pry the lid off a sharpsbiohazard bin on the wall.

BEVERLYJesus!

She pulls him away, then loses it.

BEVERLY (CONTD)(looking up)

Im sorry, Sarah! I should haveknown about the strawberries!

ELLIOT(looking up)

She also hit me with a tennis ball!

I dont know what Im doing!!

Chevy waddles over to comfort her.

CHEVY

Its okay. Well get the hang ofit.

BEVERLYHow? We werent any good at itthe first time! And now we cantget out of a chair without ourbones creaking!

CHEVYBut you didnt have me the firsttime. And you do now. Were ateam.

She sniffles, calming down a little. Chevy pulls herclose.

CHEVY (CONTD)Were not old. Were steady. Wenever fight, we rarely disagree,and we nevergive up.

BEVERLYYoure right. Were like a trustylittle tugboat. With a stitched-up scrotum. We can do this.

Chevy smiles and kisses her. Widen out to see Elliotstaring.

ELLIOTI have to pee.

CHEVYMe, too. Lets see what hole itcomes out of.

He takes Elliot and heads off. Beverly crosses into the

hallway and finds Molly.

MOLLYAmir picked up Hope and Taylorfrom school.

BEVERLYYou dont have to rub it in.

MOLLYWhat?

MOLLYI was. You guys are totally inover your head.

BEVERLYWere not! Your Dad and I are atugboat and were gonna kick ass atthis. Dont believe me? Come bytomorrow night. Im going to throwa housewarming party! Ill invitethe Feldmans and the neighbors...Make fun cocktails and wrap littlesausages in biscuit dough. Youllsee. Were a lotbetter at thisthan you think.

INT. BATHROOM - HOSPITAL - SAME TIME

Chevy waits outside a stall door, Elliots feet swingingunderneath.

ELLIOT (O.S.)Pooping.

CHEVYHave at it.

(beat)You know I sold this hospitalthose flushers.

ELLIOT (O.S.)Yeah?

The toilet suddenly FLUSHES LOUDLY.

ELLIOT (O.S.) (CONTD)Agghh!

CHEVYYou have to sit deeper!

Another beat.

ELLIOT (O.S.)Okay, Im done. Time to wipe.

CHEVYYup.

A beat.

ELLIOT (O.S.)I dont do that part.

CHEVYOh. Got it.

(pushes on the door)You have to unlock the door.

ELLIOT (O.S.)I cant reach it. Im on the potty.

CHEVYJust lean forward.

He does and the toilet FLUSHES again.

ELLIOT (O.S.)Agghhh!

INT. HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM - SAME TIME

Taylor and Hope sit across from Amir.

HOPEWhy did they need to come to theER? Arent you going to be adoctor?

AMIRYes, but a terrible one. I dontdo well with blood. The otherinterns call me McScreamy.

He watches Taylor one-hand shuffle a deck of cards.

AMIR (CONTD)Youre good at that.

TAYLORThanks.

AMIRWho taught you?

Taylor doesnt answer. He just stops shuffling andstares quietly at his feet. Hope looks at him, knowing,and puts her head on his shoulder. Amir gets it.

AMIR (CONTD)You know, I lost my mother when Iwas young, too. It leaves a holein you that will never go away.But, you will find with time... itfills in with love from otherplaces.

TAYLORHow long does that take?

AMIRUp to you. Because the love isalready there. You just have torealize it doesnt always come in

the most ideal form.

They look up to see: Chevy waddling along with the bagof ice on his crotch; Beverly pulling Elliot away from acrash cart, where hes trying to put defibrillatorpaddles on his ears like headphones; and Molly swattingaway a balloon bouquet that is passing too close to her.

Taylor and Hope fight a smile.

INT. RV - THE NEXT MORNING

Chevy drives Hope to school, rocking out to Stan Kentonsjazz fusion, while Hope dreams of a world with no trumpetsolos.

HOPECan I pick the music for thehousewarming tonight?

CHEVYNo, but you can for my tree house-warming, which will need more of aRadio-Disney vibe.

HOPEWhy are you so obsessed with thattree house?

CHEVYI just think itll help Taylor.

He stops at a traffic light and Hope sits up.

HOPEHey, can we stop there?

Chevy looks out at a CAR LOT advertising a mini-van sale.

HOPE (CONTD)Please? First period is juststudy hall. Lets go see whatthis regular car rage is allabout.

CHEVYSure, we can look, but good luckfinding something more practicalthan this.

EXT. RV - CONTINUOUS

The RV pulls the into the lot, clipping an arch of heliumballoons and sending them floating into the air.

INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - SAME TIME

Dawn Coker stands at her locker. We see Taylor down thehall, readying himself as he one-hand shuffles his deckof cards. He takes a breath and approaches.

TAYLORHey. Youre um, my--

DAWNNeighbor! Yeah, hi! Dawn.

TAYLORIm Tay--

He loses his grip on the cards and they go FLUTTERINGINTO THE AIR, raining back down on him like a card-storm.He winces as the BELL RINGS.

DAWNGotta run-- Ill see ya!

She hurries off. Taylor wilts.

EXT. CAR LOT - LATER

Chevy checks out a mini-van with a CAR DEALER.

DEALERGreat warrantee. New tires--

CHEVY

No kitchen. Gonna be weird notgetting a snack at stoplights.

DEALERIt has a cup holder.

Chevy notices Hope is staring at a nearby black MercedesG-wagon and heads over to her.

CHEVYWow. Thats a nice one.

HOPEIts my dream car.

CHEVYWell, maybe theyll make us a deal.Window says its got 97,000 miles.

DEALERThats the price.

CHEVYIn dollars?

DEALERYes.

CHEVYMust get great mileage.

DEALER

Not really.

CHEVYBut its reliable.

DEALERNope. Couldnt even get itstarted yesterday.

Chevy nods, then turns back to Hope.

CHEVYHow bout I just drop you off ablock away from school?

HOPEDeal.

INT. KITCHEN - LATER THAT AFTERNOON

Beverly hollows out pineapples, making them into cups,while Elliot watches. She holds one up to him.

BEVERLY

Cool, right? Im doing aCalifornia Dreamin themetonight. I want it to be reallyelegant and charming, so I can rubit in Mollys face.

ELLIOTPineapples dont grow inCalifornia.

BEVERLYYoure very short for your age.

Beverly goes back to cutting and Elliot takes a stack ofpacking paper off the counter.

ELLIOT

Can I have these to draw on?

BEVERLYAre you allergic to paper?

ELLIOTNo.

BEVERLYTheyre all yours.

He takes the paper and hurries off, as she crossesoutside with the pineapples:

EXT. PATIO - CONTINUOUS

She sets the pineapples down at an outdoor bar, whichTaylor is sitting at, vacantly practicing card tricks.

She sits next to him and looks out at the tree house,which Chevy is building while wearing a rubber bucketwith leg holes cut in it, to keep his crotch protected.

BEVERLYIs that a bucket?

TAYLORYup. Hes putting in a phone linemade out of a string and two tincans.

BEVERLYYikes.

TAYLORHe knows I have a cellphone,right?

BEVERLYYeah, but youll get unlimitedminutes on the string.

Taylor smirks, then fidgets with the cards for a beat.

TAYLORGrandma, you know about girls,dont you? Like... how to talk tothem?

Beverly grins at him. He shrugs, embarrassed.

TAYLOR (CONTD)Mom used to give me advice on thisstuff. She was good at it.

BEVERLY

I know she was. Who do you thinktaught her everything?

TAYLORReally?

BEVERLYYup. And heres the only thing youneed to know: Go big. Girls want aguy that stands outfrom the rest.Whether hes a vampire, or has thesame cancer as them-- they want thatspecial guy nobody else has. Show

her youre that guy. Go big.

Taylor takes this in.

TAYLORYeah. I can do that. ThanksGrandma!

He kisses her on the cheek and runs off. Beverly watcheshim go, then looks up.

BEVERLYSee? Were getting the hang ofit.

In the background, we see Chevy has nailed his bucket tothe tree. He struggles to get free, but kicks the ladderaway and is now just dangling there, legs flailing.

EXT. PATIO - THAT NIGHT

A lovely night, with lights strung above the patio.NEIGHBORS mingle as we find our group: Amir bobs to themusic until Molly glares at him. Benny and Martha chat

with Andy and Debbie, as Chevy and Beverly refill theirpineapples with rum punch. Martha raises hers to toast--

MARTHATo your wonderful new home!

CHEVYThank you!

He lights the card and DROPS IT, igniting a flame-paththat quickly spreads over the entire driveway, burning inthe shape of a 2 of hearts. Taylor grins slyly.

Beverly is fuming at Chevy.

The kids eat breakfast across from Chevy, as Beverlyclangs around noisily in the kitchen.

Beverly crosses by and drops a plate of burnt toast infront of him with a clatter.

CHEVY (CONTD)That looks good.

She ignores him and gives the kids a squeeze.

BEVERLYJust going to have a little Zentime. You know, do somebreathing, find that inner calm.

EXT. TENNIS COURT - LATER

Beverly knocks the shit out of a tennis ball.

It ricochets off the ball machine, which fires another.She smashes it again, grunting wildly, as a TEENAGERapproaches outside the fence with his tennis bag.

Your mom drew it when she waslittle. But I worked so much backthen, I never got around tobuilding it.

Taylor looks down at the drawing, then back up at thetree house, seeing it in a new light. He quietly climbsthe ladder to go sit in it.

Chevy turns to leave and finds Beverly standing there.

BEVERLYI had no idea.

CHEVYBetter late than never, right?

She nods, a little choked up.

BEVERLYIts perfect.

CHEVYI just want to enjoyit this time,Bev. Do all the things I missedout on. Not just with the kids,but with you.

She takes this in, as Elliot approaches.

EXT./INT. RV - MOMENTS LATER

Elliot holds the door open for Chevy and Beverly.

ELLIOTSo youll never miss anothersunset.

Chevy and Beverly step in and gasp. Elliot has drawnsunsets on the packing paper and taped them over all thewindows. It looks amazing; crayon beaches and oceansbacklit from the sun outside the glass. Chevy puts hisarm around Beverly as they look around, a lump in theirthroats.

INT. COFFEE SHOP - DAY

Chevy types at his laptop.

CHEVY (V.O.)If thats true, then our goldenyears are starting right now.

Middle-schoolers mill about as the sound of PUBLICENEMYS HARDER THAN YOU THINK thumps the air. They allturn in slow-motion to see the MERCEDES G-WAGON PULL UP.Jaws drop as the back door opens and Hope steps out, coolas shit. Beverly and Chevy roll down the window,sunglasses on and nod to her. She beams back at them,then struts coolly past the sea of gawking students.

EXT. CAR LOT - LATER

The DEALER stands with a MANAGER, who looks at his watch.

MANAGERIts been an hour.

The dealer shrugs, then sees the G-wagon pull in. Chevyand Beverly hop out and hand them the keys.

CHEVYNot bad, but we really had ourheart set on that sh*tty mini-van.

INT. COFFEE SHOP

Chevy continues typing.

CHEVY V.O....And though our efforts wontalways be conventional. Or sane.Were going to do everything wecan to make these yourgolden

years, too.

INT. TREE HOUSE - DAY

Taylor is in the tree house, when DAWN suddenly pokes herhead in. He lights up.

They hop in with their bookbags. Chevy smiles and shutsthe sliding door, then gets in with Beverly.

He cranks it up and pulls down the driveway, as we ANGLEON THE OTHER SIDE: A MASSIVE AIR-BRUSH PORTRAIT ofChevy, Beverly, Taylor, Hope and Elliot covers the entireside of the van. Neighbors stare at it as it passes by.
